QUOTE(Gold_Moderator @ Oct 28 2021, 12:39 AM) https://www.blizzarddr.com/western-digital-...-drives-inside/ this could help. just google the drive modal number, make sure it matches.Thing is, even if its WD, a usb controller that can't handle ntfs is not worth having around. Also i suspect the drive is SMR which even from my experience is usually terrible and i'm not talking about the write speeds but rather the reliability. I know WD won't have the same reliability issue where a faulty usb connection on seagate can cause the drive firmware to be corrupted where you lose all your data and have to do a super long raw drive read to recover it, then reinstall the firmware. Quite a hassle when it goes wrong. Drive manufacturers do have a different design for SMR such as including large buffers and a better CPU controller, but i suggest checking WD's SMR drive reliability. Seagate ones are crap and this would be a first if WD actually designed a good circuit. In the past WD did make good drive that you could modify, but they killed that and sold lesser quality drives, and did a silent SSD flash swap on their WD blue SSD, but not sure if they did it on their other SSDs too. Basically they swaped TLC with QLC< didn't update the product or price. While i would put WD's SMR drives to be better than seagate, its still a WD. |
