My 43" sony android tv is finally dying after 5 years of serving our family. Which brand should I go for replacement? Considering budget is quite tight, needs to be android (for kodi setup), size can be smaller.

I tried looking around for a possible fix but seems like its related to the panel itself, which can't be replaced. Suspected tcon first, but right now afraid if buy replacement tcon, ended up doesn't fix the issue. Pic related is the symptom

Edit : add budget - less than 1.5k. Better lower than 1k and support instalment like shopee pay later. Cash need to save for other important stuff. And additional photo of symptom

2nd Edit : TV at times becomes OK. Like in this photo that I just took (10PM 30/9/21), picture is fine and no issue at all. Tv has been on since morning till now (kids and wife watching, now I got back from work continue watching). Starting to feel like a cold solder issue. As long as it can survive until i got my bonus, i'll keep it as it is for now.

So fast 5 years going to kaput? My last Samsung lasted 10 years before moving to new area and fried by lightning twice. Bought Sharp, baru kena lightning, now waiting for parts. Also had 2 Phillips tv, one kena kilat also, no parts since bought 14 years ago and another same time beli still ok.

Bought a new Android/Apple 42" Samsung tv for the kids to play Nintendo last year, looks good, less than 1.3k at Jusco, Series 5/6 can't remember. Better screen resolution (4K) since Samsung/LG provides screen to Sony/Sharp/Toshiba so will stick to Samsung from now on.

Unfortunately I think i got a lemon set. Right now want to consider other cheaper brands as long as quite reliable. 5 years is indeed quite a short lifetime for a tv.

I dont lol. But my twin boys so strong climb over cabinet and reach the tv. Already wall mountef quite high but they always manage somehow. Usually just tepuk tepuk using their baby hands. Is it really because of this? I thought tcon issue so been thinking of getting a replacement. But scared if buy and yet doesn't fix the issue.

Forgot to add, got lightning arrestors, all devices connected to arrestor ok, tv connected to Astro NJOI kaput together with dish/astro box/android box. Just ordered from lapsada yesterday, 785 bucks burn...

*Next time install astro dish at porch level not house roof level.

My Pany Plasma 20 years still going strong.
Retired it due to the electricity cost.
My Sony LED 5 years already but have dirty screen effect even after many times doing pixel washing.

Anyway, I recommend you to get another Sony.

Actually if you want buy TV during sales like 11.11 sometimes risky.
If physical shops got offer then consider buy from shops.
Or through Lazada, LEX sometimes no issue. If Shopee deliver via J&T then bye bye already as they will throw there and there.

I bought monitor from Lazada and it arrived safely.
Cause 11.11 is the biggest sales in the year itself.
Confirm many people will order stuffs and the courier have to handle too many parcels.

if you have no surge protection at home , your electronic devices could have failed prematurely due to power surge . nod.gif

Always plan and make sure your have Surge protection in your house power distribution .
1. SPD surge device/ type 2 at the DB box . total cost 200 rm
2. surge power strips at the plug points. . 100 rm .

Msia have very high count for Lightning strikes hence more power surge into your home power circuit.
you need to suppress this power surge before it zaps your devices.

Dont blame the TV reliability if you have done nothing to suppress power and lightning surges.

My Panasonic plasma already more than 10years old. Now add another new Hisense 65" last year after another 43" Panasonic lcd tv has the polarizer gone bad after 13 years.

However my parents house already had a 4-5 years old Panasonic lcd tv broken down. Not sure why...I damn lazy wanna take it apart.

Awwww get well soon ma nigga, no worry the death rate is 1% nia

If you know how to build electronic, maybe you can build one control board with a pre-programmed timer that starts counting down after one year warranty expired, which the board will send instructions to let extra current flow to the certain part of the board which overdriving the electronics, to make the device fail earlier so customer forced to buy a new tv. Maybe you will becum rich if you managed to supply this shit to all the big brand

Actually can open up and see if can do cheap repair. Like office monitors, I also lazy wanna go buy new ones. So just open up and found most of them only had a bad capacitor. Replaced that and still using until now. Got one print server, dual parallel, Google also cannot find liao. Cousin bought singles one that attach to the lpt port but not stable. One day, very sienz office clerks kept annoying me with unstable printer connection. Open up the print server and viola, just a bad capacitor. Replaced that and it's up and running without any more complaints from clerks.

Woah you seem to know electronic, I just pull that idea straight outta my ass anyway, I wouldn't know if they have gone bad except if it were blackened or look toasted. Having to live through the late 80s the build quality of things start going down the drain in the beginning of early 2000s, even the light mainly fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps wouldn't last longer than a year, unlike the old fluorescent lamp fabricated during the 80-90s will need to be replaced once every 7 years. I don't know who started it, maybe Philips starts it by letting caina touch their stuff so other players forced to follow just to compete with their selling price. Thats just one example of lighting alone, the Nintendo gameboy brick (large) one will not die no matter how many times you slammed it to the floor, then they introduce the slim one that wouldn't survive a single fall as I was seeing a few lines on the lcd from that first drop, no idea what it call, dead pixels?

Not really, but a bad capacitor is just an easy fix. Last time Kemahiran Hidup sure got learn simple soldering ma. When I had nothing to lose, I'll open up things to see what's wrong with it. Even opening up my Galaxy S8 last year when the touch screen stopped working and a new screen cost as much as the phone itself. WTF, just yank the whole thing open and do own discovery channel.

My broken 43 inch is also plastic. The polarizer still intact ah? The polarizer on my TV has gone bad and can see a huge white patch when viewing off center. I just replaced it out of fear for my kids eyes.

Still functioning 100%. Earlier this year got astro ultra now 1080p seems not enough. Maybe when cartoon channel have 4k will upgrade. The TV has receive many abuse from projectiles from tantrums and survive. It is so heavy that a kid slamming body first didn't topple it. Current batch of grandkids still in kindergarten age so if it breaks we buy a new one. 😜

Luck la... My Panasonic Plasma tv also bought that time because my son started to watch tv. My dad had this old any projection tv, so fucking blur, scare affect his eyes. After he watched then it's my dad's turn. Almost 24/7 since my dad watch tv until fall asleep. Surprisingly can last until now even though my parents moved to their new home 6 years ago. Bought when son 1 years old, now he twelve years old liao. Untung liao... 2.5k for 11 years and counting.

I don't mind if it's just me but my kids. They don't have gadgets so the only screen related stuff they had is the tv. Plus me and wife wants to watch stuff also don't want to use handheld devices.

Sony CRT 29“ TV my family bought since 2006 lasted like 6 years. Send to repair few times already. Meanwhile the 11“ Panasonic CRT my family use when I was kindergarten till form 4 still working today. Too bad analog TV signal was phased out.

It's no matter what country producing them. It seem like they purposely make shorter lifespan for electronics products. Washing machine, fridge, TV seem to have shorter lifespan. If they can survive for even 10 years feel like miracle already.

Back in older days, those National brand is the champion. My family fridge lasted like 19 years.

I'm considering this as well since android tv spec all capalang yet price premium as hell. To get one with 4gb ram is pretty much impossible, much less something that has more than 32gb storage.
