Does applying for Zerolution now requires a credit card? If it does require a credit card, this Zerolution plan should not be called Zerolution right? Originally you can walk out of the store with your brand new phone without paying anything for as long as you’re a valid postpaid subscriber. What gives?

It's because they wanna make sure that money is sucked/drained from your account, also there are lots of bad debtors. When I was working with an Apple Service Center (Repairs), lots of customers will call and ask what they can do with IMEI blocked phones (Blocked by Maxis), because the customers bought the phone 2nd hand and only to be screwed.

let's say i pre order iphone 13 from maxis, it'll be telco locked it seems. does this mean it'll be telco locked forever? or maxis has certain period of time like 24 months later it'll be unlocked?

I wanna clarify things in your question,

1) IMEI Blocking and SIM Locking are 2 entirely different things
- If you need an explanation between IMEI & SIM Lock, do ask

2) Malaysia does not SIM Lock phones, hence why you're able to use a DiGi/ Celcom/ U Mobile SIM in an iPhone bought from Maxis

3) The unlock after 24 months thing doesn't apply in Malaysia

Malaysia telco don't practice locking smart devices.
I bought telco set from Celcom, Digi, Maxis, none are locked.

.... except, Maxis ipad tablet plans.
The device itself is not locked, can be used with any SIM from any telco.
but, it's the maxis SIM that comes paired with the device that is locked to be used only with the paired device. cannot move the SIM to another device.

.... except, the Celcom wireless broadband huawei modem, which can only be used with Celcom SIM.

maxis rep explained to me, NOW, maxis by default requires some advance amount to be paid upfront for zerolution/360.
will be refunded through your future bills.

no longer the old zerolution/360, which really is no advance payment.

How much advance payment in terms of percentages?

not sure if its fixed.

I was interested of Samsung Galaxy S21+ or S21 Ultra or Fold. CS said I need to fork out RM800 as device upfront.

I walked away.

As I wrote before, I prefer telco phones to leverage on zero upfront (I rather have my money as spare in my hand than even as advance payment), zero interests rate, and lower point-in-time price than retail. Contract or not is not an issue as I'm going to use the network and plan anyway.

Went to Maxis this morning to sign up iPhone 13 Zerolution. I've been with Maxis for 6 years and yet they do this crap, need to pay advance payment of RM2000. I might as well pay the normal subsidized price and still with 2-year contract. Don't understand why they need that much advance payment for a ZEROLUTION.

Same with you, I walked out. Not encouraging this stupid move.

If that is the case, no point going for zerolution anymore. Does other telco do the same?

Not sure with Celcom but DiGi is even worse, asking almost RM4000+ even with contract. Might as well get it outright. laugh.gif

I’ve just recently take new device with zerolution after contract expired without any advance fee.

I believe that maxis do have some sort of credit scoring based on customer profile as some required to pay advance some doesn’t need

I’ve personal & corporate account with maxis maybe that’s why not required any advance payment.

Which phone did you take? I think it depends on the cost of the phone.

Does any one have any idea what happened to Zerolution 360?
Seems like its a dying platform as I couldnt find any device available for 360.

Currently just Zerolution and normal contract available

took 2 devices from maxis before, including S10+.

query for 3rd device was declined by maxis under pretense of some sort of "loan limit" at that time.

4th device i walked away due to requiring upfront payment.

that's basically defeat the selling attraction of zerolution and zerolution 360 conteacts itself: zero upfront.

I think it’s more on personal profile, I took more than 7 device already for zerolution without any upfront payment.

Yes agreed with you if they required upfront defeated the selling point
