Depends on what do you call performance RAM . If your notebook comes with those 1Rx16 RAM ( 4 memory chips only on a single module) , I buy anything that has 8 memory chips or 16 on the single module also consider as "performance RAM" .
If you refer performance RAM as something that need 1.35V DDR4 SODIMM , then 90% of the laptops out there won't even boot at all.
Currently , the most common SODIMM in the market is either CL19 2666 or CL22 3200 .
The only 1 I tried that is working is that Kingston Hyper X Impact . It is all rated at 1.2V and doesn't need XMP which 90% of laptops out there do not support. So far what I know is , they have CL15 2666 or CL20 3200 .
Don't mix with existing RAM . Sell off existing one and always buy in pair. Compatibility issues are far more frequently encountered in laptops than DIY desktops.
