and the improvement they claimed is too big of a gap for a14.

this event, ipad mini is certainly the most worthy product to buy. especially now with the A15 chip.
A15 chip plus the brand new design makes the ipad mini worthy in any way.

the ipad air is totally redundant now in the ipad line-up if you ask me. haha.

Yeah and since I will use this iPad for meetings and video streaming only, I guess I can live with 64GB. I still have iPhone with 256GB and if that is also insufficient, there is iCloud.

For ipad you need to first fix your mind on the size you want. Otherwise you’ll never stop with the price comparison with other models. Mini is good for portability.

Worst part only has two options either 64gb or 256gb.

Frankly speaking 64gb maybe a bit too little but 256gb can be overkilled too.

I think if one is buying lower end iPad either stick with the lowest storage option.

Else will be similar to iPad Air 256gb same price as 128gb iPad Pro. Might as well get iPad Pro for this case.

hmmm. i am tempted to get the new ipad mini to replace my current ipad air 4. i used the 1st generation ipad mini and switched to the bigger one after they stopped updating the mini line up for a while but I really do miss the small form factor and lightness.

I was looking forward to see what the iPad Mini 6 had to offer after the leaks and rumours.

However, i think i will still hold on to my iPad Mini 5 because paying a RM600 premium over the previous base model 64GB wifi model is abit steep for a slightly larger larger screen, USB C (this should be mainstream by now) and the A15 processor isn't justifiable to make the upgrade.

It will make more sense for folks using a iPad Mini 1 - 3 to make the upgrade.

The iPad Mini 5's A12 and screen is still perfectly useable till now despite being 3 years old now.

it's always Apple tactic to left out 128gb and lure users buying 256GB for higher price.

Yes, I like Mini for its portability as I used to travel frequently pre-pandemic days and it has been a great companion to me. So, I will most likely get a Mini again this time. The previous Mini 2 is with me for almost 8 years, great ROI and worth every buck. It is still running well, just that some apps can be quite challenging. Will downgrade it to normal usage..

Err... The announcement was can order today and available next week, but that's US. The one late fall is Apple Watch if I'm not mistaken.

Was looking forward to this. Shame it's still got a 60Hz "PovertyMotion" display, but not surprising considering the Air is also 60Hz as well.

Also hate Apple's usual slimy pricing tactics. they know 128GB is the sweet spot for storage, so they release one with barely enough and one with too much. Hoping it comes with 6GB RAM. That'd make the price a bit easier to swallow.

USB-C is nice too, I suppose. If everything works out, I'll be replacing my iPhone with a Google Pixel (because of that CSAM crap Apple tried to pull) de-googled with CalyxOS, so by year's end my phones, tablet and laptop can be charged with a single cable.

64GB is really nothing la nowadays even if you're not playing serious mobile games like Genshin. Yes some buy only for streaming but if that's really the case, there are cheaper alternatives with good specs (good screen) out there honestly for 'only' media consumptions.

And with tech it's always like that la. Add up only a little bit you'd get better spec overall with caveats (lower storage). Just know on why you buy it for in the 1st place and stick to it.

For me, iPad Mini 6 has good overall specs with a very portable form factor. Some woukd hold of the opinion that that 12.9 is also portable. Some do not. So to each of his own. Just know why you're buying it in the 1st place la.


I don't mind the 60Hz screen but the RAM size is yea a little bit underwhelming at only 4GB. But perhaps for a tablet that is designed for portability they don't expect people to really do extensive multitasking on it that much. But it's Apple. There's always things in their spec that would make us want it to be 'if only this part was better.'

And interesting when you mention about Apple's CSAM and your concept of moving away from Google. I think they are delaying that shit up after having a massive backlash from privacy groups around the world yea.

I am using it for media consumption, regardless Youtube/Emby/iQiyi/ or any other video apps, it just lag and getting worse.

If you use Facetime and Zoom, then yes Centerstage will be worth it - sadly this feature isn't supported by other wider third party video call developers yet such as Whatsapp, Telegram, etc.

Still running well actually. Use it for media streaming only and my sister has one too which she’s using on daily basis, more frequent than I do. Doesn’t lag on us. We mostly use it for Astro Go and Netflix.

I only find it struggling when I attend meetings on MS Teams and if I watch any live broadcast on singing apps. So I guess, I won’t stretch it anymore and time for a new iPad.

Yeah, just read about the 4GB RAM. A bit disappointing. For years, I've been contemplating getting an iPad Pro with keyboard case as a full laptop replacement, but iPadOS still isn't quite there yet for me. There's always some feature lacking or some simple two-click task on the laptop (I run Linux on a ThinkPad) that requires convoluted swipe/tap gymnastics or an overcomplicated Shortcuts script on iPadOS. Figured I'd get a Mini as a "transition" device to test the waters first and acclimatize myself, but not sure 4GB RAM will be enough for multitasking and heavy browsing. My iPhone 12 Mini currently also has 4GB and there are times it will reload Safari tabs if I have a lot open. I also do a lot of drawing and heard that apps like ProCreate allow for bigger canvas and more layers up to the 5GB per-app limit set by Apple, so that's why I was hoping for 6GB.


The problem is it's only been delayed, not abandoned. I have no issue with them scanning content on their iCloud servers (I don't use iCloud Photos anyway, only to backup app settings) but I don't appreciate having a backdoor on my device. That just opens the door for authoritarian governments to spy on you. Apple always follows individual country law (that's the reason their new iCloud Private Relay won't be available for users in China, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, etc) and governments can change local regulations to force Apple to comply. Malaysians as a whole already have very poor privacy practices - people install apps for every small thing, everyone keeps giving out their IC number everywhere non-stop, friends constantly nagging me to use Facebook, local banks still not using OTP for 2FA, f*cking Family Mart app wanting to scan your local storage and contacts on Android for dunno what reason, and let's not forget the hot mess that is MySejahtera - and at least iOS prevented some of those abuses, but things could easily change if Apple adds on-device scanning backdoor, since it will almost certainly be abused to do more than simple hash scanning of images.

I talked about this issues time by time, often ppl mocked me by saying just live with it, you are no PM or a billionaire, not one want to spy on you.. the lack of awareness in privacy here is quite disappointing.. most people are just cow and sheep.. i was hesitant to install even MySejahtera app, until i got no choice recently when we required to flash our vaccine cert to move around.. the MySejahtera app didn’t even declare their privacy policy, make it seems like its no important, but the gov demanding people to install that “SPY” app.. feel like we are in a military country

one cool thing about ipad mini 6 is that it comes with 5-core GPU, same as iphone 13 pro and not like 13 4-core only.

I definitely can't wait to order it and have my hands on it. Upgrading from an ipad mini 3 that only had 16gb, so could barely work on it. Plus, bottom of the screen is flickering, so will probably get it fixed eventually and let my toddler have it when we are ready for her to use one for educational purposes.
I've always felt the Mini is the perfect size for a tablet, pretty much the same size as books. Definitely gonna use it for work a lot, reviewing documents, using for meetings, taking notes, etc, and reading my books. Not much of a gamer here, though never know.
Hopefully they'll have for preorder soon...i checked, seems SG, AUS, HK all are available for preorder, but not us in MY, Thailand, Indonesia.

I see that everyone is complaining about the storage size. My question is:

1) Can you connect a usb-c thumbdrive to extend storage? Planning to get 64GB.
2) How many usable size of storage usually is lefT? 10GB is what I read for OS. Meaning will only have ~50GB left?

I have a Kobo Aura H2O as well which I used to read from all the time... but somehow now I find myself reading more from my phone or my old ipad mini. Guess it's more convenient especially in the case of my phone... bored? Just flip over to the ebook app. Though i know the Kobo would be much better for my eyes.

Yeah for sure. I used to read from tablets and phone, since I got my kindle, I know I will never read from other devices anymore. But I read a minimum of 20 books up to 100 books per year so I cannot stand reading from any devices other than kindle, the e-ink tech makes all the differences.

I love ipad mini due to portability (i use mainly for reading, and office emails), was long time user before i move to ipad pro.. since then was waiting for this new version of ipad mini..

Books Reading wise i have my trusty kindle so till now I haven't considered to change yet. But they do look nice, the new designs are nice, like a mini ipad air. They should adopt it across all the tablets, ipad has been left out.

It's a smart move by Apple, otherwise nobody would get the more expensive iPad mini and iPad Air anymore.

In fact after this launching I can't see the reason why people would be getting iPad Air anymore. More expensive than Mini 6 with lower specs, only screen size is larger.

iPad Air 4 is an old model as compared to the going to release ipad mini, so whether they sell or not now, it doesn't matter cause what's sold is already sold and they have already profited.
If you tell me they release at the same time then it's a different story, then they would be just killing their own products.

The only smart move i see here is that they let consumers get used to the hiked price of ipad mini, hold off the launch of next ipad air 5. Because it is definitely going to be more expensive and of course offer a higher specs than ipad mini.
