Hi, i've recently upgraded maxis 100mbps to 800mbps. When perform speedtest from Maxis to Maxis Subang Jaya with Asus RTX-82U or Tplink AX50 wifi 6 routers to a new TM ZTE modem on a high end PC with gigabit LAN port and cat6 or 7 cable the download is only around 300mbps. TM technician check the fibre cable reading from outside to indoor is below 25 and according to them this is acceptable.

Maxis cant explain why cant achieve 800mbps download speed via Speedtest. Funny thing is i can get 760mbps via speedtest IF it is Maxis to DIGI subang server.

Im not sure if i should accept the Digi test result although i subscribe to Maxis.

Anyone experience this?? Please share.

Hi, Thanks for the input. Can you perform speedtest with Maxis to DIGI Subang and what is the result.
Do you get more than 300+ ? im getting 750mbps with testing via DIGI server.

Maxis Tech thought i should accept the results of DIGI Subang server and not Maxis Subang.

dont take speedtest too seriously. many speedtest sites were rigged.

unifi/maxis were ok during intial stage (1st week or so).

after that, it hovered ard 50-70% and fell below par speed (30%) often.

most apps/users dont realised (dont requred latency) coz i throttle the bandwith, use load-balancer and applied Qos.

normally speed restarts at higher level after router reboot. so, may be u put a timer to rest the router start afresh often.

if still not happy, have to report to MCMC edi...

My router reboots every morning. In fact it is auto power off together with modem daily.
Qos does impact the speed test result. I dont use it and it is turn off. Also i dont use load balancer.

Test results with MyKris and Digi is consistent on digi test site, speedtest.net via browser/app and also ookla.
Test was also done during 3am in the morning. 750mbps could also be achieve with wifi 6 or LAN to PC
or my galaxy fold.

Somehow Maxis or even TM site test is not producing the result.

Have you used other client device to test, other than that particular PC?

How about wifi? Don't select the server, just perform the best available server to test on.

you can also try TM's node

Test LAN from two high end PCs with i7 and i9 with 32gb memory. Client, LAN cable, Router, Modem and Fibre are not the issue.

Test was also done with Wifi6 at 160mhz. Same result.750 to 780 mbps via speedtest IF it is Maxis to DIGI subang server.

Best available server was also tested. MyKris could get 700++mbps.

Test via TM's node also same like Maxis around 300mbps..

There are also bandwidth limitation on the server side, not all servers connected to the internet are on multi gigabit connections. For a speed test server to benchmark/measure speed of close to a gigabit, it needs AT MINIMUM more than a gigabit. That Maxis server maxes out at around 300Mbps like your results has shown.
The DiGi server seems to have a bigger pipe, and the test is a valid as it has indeed sent 800megabits per second down that fiber cable into your house, demonstrating that your device installed/configured IS capable of receiving the subscribed package's d/l speeds.

eg. in the case of Google Fiber a couple years back, it was know that you cant always achieve the full gigabit speed on the open internet because the (website) servers weren't fast enough. Similar scenario here, just that its happening on the Maxis's Speedtest server.

Easily enough, you can look for 1gig+ speed test servers on [ http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest ] (configure for them in the test settings) OR [ http://speed.googlefiber.net/ ] to see if you can exceed that 300Mbps speed on Maxis's servers.

PS: All the talk eg. bad mouthing isp saying "its rigged", "ok during initial stage", "below par speed (30%) often", "speed restarts at higher level after router reboot", suggestion to "put a timer to rest the router start afresh often" is hearsay at best, unsubstantiated/uncorroborated, old/outdated advice that is often repeated by the ill-informed.

it is just that, sometimes in Malaysia we have first class facilities but third class user mentalities. that's why we get complains like these all the time, everything is 'bad'.

You have a point but to be fair, nobody would expect a speedtest server can only cater till 300mbps, kind of ridiculous if you asked me.

FTFY: nobody (in 2021) would expect a speedtest server can only cater till 300mbps, kind of ridiculous if you asked me.

Well I would figure that particular server is set up a while back and left as a low priority and forgotten to be upgraded to a newer port/switch/router with more bandwidth allocations. 😂

800mbps is their top tier plan which wasn’t around and widely offered/promoted till a year or two back? (IIRC maxis tried to upsell me on that lol) (despite the fiber was capable already from the start)

Maxis is a joke with their own servers, literally.

On another side note, even umobile server provides better results than Maxis own servers.

I serious thinks Maxis stock router cant even get to 800 Mbps speed no matter what time of the day that you try the speed test.

im only using maxis stock router for the 4g backup. could never achieve 800mbps with fiber connection.

I believe speed above 300Mbps is very depends on device specification.

I am using 500Mbps not the 800Mbps but not all my device manage to reach 500Mbps also.
Following test result had run multiple times in different day.

Basic Item
- Maxis Fibre 500Mbps
- Using Maxis router.
- All LAN cable is cat7 which is 1000Mbps (Both computer detect as 1000Mbps connected)
- Wireless is connected at 5Ghz Wi-Fi.

Result
- New PC (1 year ago) - around 540Mbps
- Old Laptop (6 years ago) - around 330Mbps
- Apple TV 4K (2021 edition) - around 480Mbps
- Samsung Galaxy Fold3 (wireless) - around 390Mbps
- Chromecast with Google TV (wireless) - around 310Mbps
- LG C9 TV - around 100Mbps

Yeah it depends on the device too
A lot of budget devices have just N150/N300 wifi, so only up to 150/300 theoretical (realistically lower) Mbps

AC wifi has a Max of 866Mbps which once again realistically you wont see

You need AX wifi support on both

Or use a LAN cable
