Last time a made a call to gov office and asked to put me thru to cik xxxxx, just to make thing more neutral, but the guy who answered the call said she is puan bukan cik, nanti panggil dia puan xxxx. I was like,ok , is it really matter to differentiate woman according to her marital status. It just a salutation, why once call cik ,other guy can woo her?

The norm of address woman based on the marital status is no longer applicable nowdays. I remember reading the article about the woman in western countries, they are no longer want to use their husbands' family names because it has been practiced since medieval ages where women have no will and power to decide anything on themselves. Same goes to the salutation of ms or mrs.
