Sellers who are selling cheap small items at ridiculously high prices and almost zero reviews. It's alright to assume they're scammers or fake sellers right?

I have found several of them selling rare items that I've been looking for (prices were ok, surprisingly) but when I checked other products in their shop they are all very very expensive.

Saw them alot on Lazada search results. Reporting them won't do anything seems like many platforms just ignoring their existence.

Really want some of the items they listed for sell but I just don't think they are legit shops. Have any you here encountered such sellers on Shopee/Lazada?

Examples:
https://www.lazada.com.my/shop/jiangshijiaz..._id6=CPI_NORMAL
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/vintage-..._id6=CPI_NORMAL
https://shopee.com.my/yy13387758242.my?smtt=0.0.9
https://shopee.com.my/sqbh14795100469.my?smtt=0.0.9

'Duplicate' shop (as been mentioned in post no.7)
https://shopee.com.my/product/461930914/729...83-1628659803.9
Real shop (see the difference)
https://shopee.com.my/product/618538/384541...83-1628659836.9

Real shop selling rare fake copy of book at expensive price, but still in legit business. (Shop ratings are fine there's real reviews from buyers and selling so its acceptable) https://www.lazada.com.my/products/64-pages..._id6=CPI_NORMAL

Alot of swap to china model instead of local model for it parts.

And these sellers have multiple shops and are famous shops in lowyat.

Biggest problem you will face is lack of local warranty.

Also shopee is notorious for selling you faulty product and refusing refund

I see more on Shopee than Lazada. Maybe becoming seller is easier on shopee? Worst is mudah.my, 99% scam. I think the easier it is to become seller, the more scams/fakes on the platform

Not sure which kind u saw but I've seen "duplicators". I'm a small time shopee seller and I watermark my product photos. These ppl just use back my photo so it's confirm scam. I report with my original product link then they get removed very quickly.

Summary: Don't buy things that has no rating

I think theres no verification of seller (last time lelong.com.my got verified seller status) on shopee, anyone can just list item for sale. Mudah one don't have escrow like shopee.

That’s why i just buy from established shop.

Well of course kesian for the real seller that just startup, but i ain’t doing charity and not wasting my time.

Usually i will pay that extra 5-10 bucks just to buy from a seller that has more of the product “sold”

Hmm, never really encountered such thing yet, other than the legit sellers putting exorbitant price tags for bundled gifts not supposed to be bought.

I also cannot imagine how would they use that method to scam. The thing is the exorbitant price tag does not really violate any listing regulations, that's why no action was taken.

My take is, if the stuff I'm looking for is cheap enough for me to be willing to take risks, I would go ahead and test the legitimacy of a "new" seller. Otherwise, too bad for everyone.

Is not wrong to sell cheap things expensive .... willing buyer seller. Unless is controlled items, sellers are at liberty to make unlimited profit.

You should be aware of those selling known expensive items for cheap price.

If it’s something that I need it to be absolutely authentic, either I’ll stick to the usual seller or go to another reputable seller if OOS.
I still don’t trust the ‘100% authentic guarantee’ promises on both platforms.

What I do is, I’ll look up on the seller’s shop.
I would be convinced about the legitimacy if there are other products which have ratings.
If whole shop product no rating at all, either I won’t buy at all or buy very small value items (when I have the opportunity) to check it out first.
Also another thing I will consider is the shop owner’s join date (can only see on Shopee, Lazada idk got this feature or not).
Usually if new <1 month, will give chance abit.
Luckily for me so far no big issues.

The principle has always been "Caveat Emptor" or Buyers Beware. In both Lazada and Shopee you will find vendors selling at all sorts of prices, some reasonable, some outrageous hoping to catch a clueless buyer. I've seen items priced 20x the market price. Those selling at high prices are technically not scammers but opportunists. There are also some vendors selling expensive branded items at too good to be true prices. You may assume they are fake so again its buyers beware.

You can report the fake branded products but don't waste your time reporting high prices. The platforms can't police that all items are sold at reasonable prices to protect buyers who don't shop around.

They're fake sellers from China. Already checked back today one shop that sells plastic nail set (other legit stores priced at RM2.99) for RM69.99 already gone. Same with Hello Kitty plastic comb which shouldn't be more than RM2-RM5 that seller asked RM39.90 for it. If Shopee have banned them good riddance. I don't think they're real shop been set up for legit business.

I'll update this thread when I found other similar stores again later. Haven't gone through Lazada to see if they have taken action against them.

I just don't think they're real shops, perhaps opportunist like you said. Products they're selling are not even branded items just cheap plastic things but priced ridiculously high with zero reviews or buyers.

I have seen similar things on Taobao as well, few shops here and there selling cheap things at extremely high prices. Non of them been sold of course.

Oh yes this as well. I reported one China shop that used watermarked pics from Melaka seller as screenshot. Not sure if Shopee have took it down or not but I attached the link of actual owner of the pictures. It just damn crazy the China shop putting RM 49.90 for one clear silicone stamp which originally sold RM9+ at the actual shop in Melaka.

I really don't know what term to describe this kind of 'sellers' other than scammers. They are not legit business owners definitely.

Online shopping is like that, you want cheap you need take the risk.

So when this happen to you then you need to find those can easy refund platform.

I don't think shopee refund easy than lazada.

those are not fake people, and not a scammer. is a real person using the drop shipper app.

Dropshipper app generate weird name as you can see.

The app pick the best selling item and mark up based on the price.
in hoping to get buyers, they sometimes spend alot of money on ads

thanks to who? unscrupulous "Gurus" or digital "gurus" who create this kind of thing to fish people who want to start a business. but always fail.
They pay these gurus, go to their lesson.

in the end is the Gurus who earn more than them. And if these gurus have alot of views in their youtube, they will monetize it with ads.

edit: go to youtube and search for shopee dropshipper app

Interesting. This kind of sellers do they have the advertised products as well or they just randomly picked best selling items using the dropshipper app? The duplicate shop is one under this program too?

I just hope there's no naive buyers would buy overpriced stuff from them.

I'm sure you and other online sellers I've met here are legit sellers and owned real business.

What I'm referring to now are the examples of sellers I posted in first post. Compare them with real shops with followers and real buyers and reviews.

YouTube search only yields some videos from this guy not much about dropshipper app.

better to delete the link, otherwise it will cause trouble. There are more apps. Not only in youtube. u can try google.

anyway, buyers are generally know how to select using the sort lowest to highest price. and rating.
I sell in Shopee, got so many dropshipper piggyback my listing. even the image got my store template, they also not care at all. I did try to confront them, they delist it, but the next day got new dropshipper comes up. report to shopee also no use..

is like picking sand out from the beach. No direction, drop shippers don't hold any stock. They just wait for customers to buy their product. then their app will generate the buyer's detail to the original store. acting as a buyer for the real customer.

Is no wrong for them to do this, but it will look ugly for Shopee and Lazada very soon. because of many weird listings. I don't call them scammer though, it is just stupid to do it with big effort.
A few years back, I did try to buy the same product I am selling from a dropshipper. They can't even answer the product information.

In the early days, Oberlo was one of the famous one. But it does serve its purpose because not many people know how to shop from Aliexpress or trust China's marketplace platform.

Shopee is too easy to open seller account since they tied to normal account. There is no layer of verification even the Bank accounts, any ah pig ah dog also can put in. If you see new seller, less than 2 months but got over thousands of product listed for selling that seemingly have abundance of stock along with gibberish username then conlanfirm red flag even though these mostly are signs that they were dropshipper, so buy with them at your own risk.

Lazada also recently start liao opening their version's can of worm. Although they have slightly stricter requirement (requires IC copy & Bank statement)

So they're not illegal sellers or scammers. But still not legit business owners as well no? They're diluting search results yet there's nothing customers can do about them?

We had a problem with this seller. https://shopee.com.my/minewatch.my

My husband wanted to buy a watch for when he's out for a run.
We found this nice Garmin model, not the latest, but at good price so we bought it.

When the item arrived, it seemed ok until he went out to try it.... the gps didn't seem to work, certain apps were not syncronizing and... worst of all... at the end of his training, the watch screen froze!

He contacted technical service who told him to 'reset the watch'. He did. And the same thing happened again, and again. And... curiosly, the battery seemed to drain like water. Really strange for a brand new watch. shakehead.gif

We contacted Garmin, they asked us the serial number and other watch Ids.. and lo and behold.... the watch was sent to Malaysia in 2017 and USED in 2019 shocking.gif .....
But the store claimed this as a 'brand NEW watch'.

There you have a fraudulent store. vmad.gif

The store never took resposibility, so we initiated a legal claim with Shopee and told them all this ordeal.

Thankfully we got our money back, but never EVER again buy in this store.

Great share and thank God you guys got your money back. Yes sometimes we have to be very careful when choosing which shops to buy. For me I always search for their reviews first too see if there's legit business going on and screenshot of items I'm going to receive.
