Guys, i am planning to buy a laptop for my family member to replace their faulty laptop, just happen last night.

Main usage is for movie and watching youtube, with light office work. ZERO gaming.

Need some serious feedback here, hope you guys can help me.

Few requirements that must be met as below.
- price: 3.5k max
- ram: 16gb ram
- ssd: 512gb
- screen size: min 15.6, better if it is 16 or 17
- must have MO H&O Student 2021 free

Other requirements which still undecided
- processor: both amd and intel is ok. But minimum must be 5 series for both
- screen type: should i get an oled screen? Understand that 3.5k wont get a superb oled screen, but it should still be better than ips right?

Already narrow down to few option as below. Appreciate feedback if any of you have owned the models
- vivobook 16 (ryzen 7 7730u, 16in ips screen)
- vivobook 15 (intel i5-1235u, 15in oled)
- vivobook 15x (ryzen 7 5800h, 15in oled)
- ideapad flex 5 (ryzen 5 7530u, 16 in ips)
- any feedback on the above 4 processors?

Out of these 4, I would go for Vivobook 15x for the Ryzen processor and oled screen. My ranking for your choices would be
1. Vivobook 15x
2. Vivobook 16
3. Vivobook 15 (the 12th Gen Intel is just too old for brand new, unless you're getting it for very cheap)
4. Ideapad Flex 5 (just plain bad quality imo)

Overall, you'll be pretty satisfied with option 1 or 2, if you're buying it for immediate use.

However, I would add my 2 cents that I personally would not choose Asus Vivobook because of its more budget build quality compared to the main Zenbook line, and avoid Lenovo Ideapads due to the fact it is also worse build quality compared to the main lineup.

For screen type, for multimedia usage only, IPS is sufficient, OLED is superior. You can't go wrong with either IPS or OLED.

Thanks for the feedback. Is there big difference in processor speed between 15x and 15? Its an i5-1235u vs ryzen 7 5800h. Based on google, both have almost the same capabilities?

For screen, is there big difference in blue light generation between ips and oled screen? Will oled screen able to reduce the blue light?

Processor speed wise, not a big difference, but the Ryzen has much better battery life than Intel Core 12th Gen.

Blue light generation is not a major difference between IPS and OLED, in the end, less screen time reduces eye strain, so reduce screen time to protect your eyes.

Also might I also suggest the HP Pavilion 15, it has slightly superior build quality compared to the Dell Inspiron, Lenovo Ideapad and Asus Vivobook line of laptops.

HP Pavilion 15 (16GB RAM+512GB Storage) (15.6-inch IPS screen, 45% NTSC)

Here is also a comparison review of both the Asus Vivobook 15X vs HP Pavilion

My personal ranking of the 5 choices for your needs would be
1. Vivobook 15X OLED (the 2.8K OLED screen just wins in watching videos)
2. HP Pavilion 15 (More durable build quality in this segment)
3. Vivobook 16
4. Vivobook 15 (the 12th Gen Intel is just too old for brand new, unless you're getting it for very cheap)
5. Ideapad Flex 5

Thanks. I was aiming for either the 15x or the 15 too, as both are price similarly, but those 2 are more expensive that the 16, at least rm500 difference. This what makes me in dilemma now.

Basedo on what you said, seems like i can ditch the 15. It will be between 15x and 16, and need to consider the price difference of at least rm500 is worth it or not for a oled screen but smaller in size with older processor.

You mean Asus Vivobook 15X (2.8K OLED, Ryzen 5-5800H) vs Asus Vivobook 16 (1080p IPS, Ryzen 7-7730U)?

In that case, get the Vivobook 15X, the OLED and better battery life (15X has bigger battery at 70Wh vs 42Wh on Vivobook 16 ) will be much appreciated. Not just that, the Vivobook 15X is also smaller and lighter in size, whilst having much better colour coverage (100% DCI-P3 OLED is much better than the 45% NTSC on Vivobook 16), much better for watching videos.
TLDR; get Asus Vivobook 15X, it seems to be the best based on your needs and use

Finally, have just pull the trigger for vivobook 16. Was eager to get the 15x for its oled display, but after everything in including whatever vouchers available, the 16 is rm900 cheaper than the 15x.

I feel this rm900 is a big gap, so decided to go with the cheaper 16.

Vivobook 16 for under RM2500 I suppose, based on your saying? If that's the case, congrats on your new laptop~ 👍

Yup, got the ryzen 7 7730u with 16gb spec for 2.4k.
