I just want to know, what's the most reliable laptop brand these days?? I mean every single one has faults, undoubtedly. But which one is at least more reliable than the rest?

I believe reliability will subject to own usage environment  hmm.gif  There's several range of laptop within each brand that at least can work around it  icon_rolleyes.gif

Dell - Inspiron / Latitude / Precision
Dell - Vostro / XPS / G series / Alienware

Lenovo - ThinkBook / Thinkpad / P Series
Lenovo - Ideapad / Yoga / Legion

HP - EliteBook / Elite DragonFly / ProBook / ZBook
HP - Spectre / Envy / Pavillion / Omen / Victus

Apple - Air / Pro

My experience are certain Biz range are better if compare to Home range  notworthy.gif

Personally reliability to me will be warranty offered, access to upgrade hardware & availability of components in market with reasonable cost (if wanna keep 3~5 years min.)

Laptop should at least last 5 years no?

Depend... nowadays most high-tech are integrated and soldered on-board non upgrade-able  sweat.gif

It may last 5 years but by that time the technology shifted at least 3 times ahead  icon_rolleyes.gif

aiyo, so damn hard to catch up with technology. Was thinking to sell my 4+ years old PC and get a laptop for some minimalist lifestyle. But damn, laptops will cost me more money in the long run i feel.

I think let go would be cheaper option further it's 4+ yo... but there's some option to get certain range of laptop if you're going portable  icon_idea.gif
*
Mine is a gaming PC ler. I dont know if I will still be interested in gaming in the future, but laptop certainly doesn't compare.
What is your suggestion then if i'm going portable. hehe. I would like something reliable, 5 years sounds good.

nice.. built one too for games but less time now  icon_rolleyes.gif

Portable for me will be enuf function on getting thing's done, I'll put games aside thou  sweat.gif

You may want to look into prefer screen size, storage, CPU/GPU/RAM, battery as such  notworthy.gif

or you can describe related task target to be done on the laptop so that we can suggest any suitable one for you

Although reliability depends on brand sometimes, but with knowledge you can mitigate it. Undervolting, run on power saving, disable boost when not needed, remove battery when on desk, monitor the temperature, clean the heatsink fan regularly can make a difference for longevity. I go so much that I even BIOS modded it to unlock all setting in BIOSes. Some newer laptop can't undervolt for some reason because OEM locked it oddly like the laptop I currently using.

On software side you can reduce system processes, Windows 10 and 11 are notorious with tons of processes, telemetry and such that makes hard for system to even idle. Read around (reddit a good start) how and what can you do to reduce it so your system can idle and reduce strain on hardware. Just yesterday I reduce like 40+ processes on my laptop so it won't use so much RAM at idle. Make paging file small and static and on bigger SSD so it won't eat too much write cycle

I don't believe in laptop gaming but I do buy ASUS FX506HCB with RTX3050 for gaming when I'm away. Yeah its the weakest RTX available but if you used to low end GPU you know it weakness, like reducing shadows setting I can play CP2077 with ray tracing at 1080p with DLSS set on balanced with around 40-70fps. That isn't bad and good enough for me to be happy with it. i5 11400H is good enough to handle RTX3050 even without boost when gaming at 1080p so that reduces strain on power brick, VRM and temperature.

That is how I taking care of my laptop. Though it sound a bit extreme, but I used to drill holes on laptops to make the fan get more air so the things I done is mild nowadays more towards software rather than hardware mods tongue.gif
*
Wah so extreme… I don’t wanna go through all that much.. the cleaning part if I could send it to someone to do that I would gladly do so.

I only use that laptop at home, so I guess just watching shows and do some surfing that’s all. I don’t use Microsoft offices much for my own personal stuffs either. Hehe!

If so maybe not much Window OS related why don't you try a tablet then? either Android or Apple, used Android tablet myself for such activities and some mobile's games  icon_rolleyes.gif

Touchscreen, portable, long battery... also can do alarm at bed  whistling.gif

No la, still need a laptop for sure.
Cause wanna download things! hehe! Lemme think about it more. Selling PC away is also a big hassle!
I just looked through Carousell. Tons of people selling and are not sold! doh.gif

Indeed  sweat.gif  Would suggest touchscreen, 2-in-1 or hybrid laptop/notebook that may also be tablet for your usage, range between MYR 2~7k

Lenovo - Yoga 7, 7i, 2-in-1 / Ideapad D series 2-in-1 / Duet 5i

Dell - XPS 13 2-in-1 / Inspiron 2-in-1 / Latitude 2-in-1

I used to have Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i for quite some time before let-go to fund my desktop, it was great experience and powerful enuf to tackle my task

Sorry couldn't suggest other brand that I didn't have personal experience with  icon_rolleyes.gif

I use lenovo for personal, be sure to check the review, the model i bought has crappy camera lol, the quality is same as those pre-3G smartphone lol. totally unusable.
Performance wise it's cheap consider the CPU is 6800HS and 680m, 16GB and 512GB micron SSD.

While at work i use Dell tablet, camera is top notch.
*
What do you all think of Lenovo Legion? Feels like a good compromise, and like just in case I wanna play some simple games. Hehe!

what's your budget?
need spec before we can recommend you too.

Gaming lappy is always good, but sure to watch out some model comes with low RAM and SSD capacity,
*
Okie my budget is RM5K.
I checked with the shop that i custom my PC from, they can do trade-in, which makes thing easier for me. I will just get laptops from them too.

What do you all think of ASUS?

https://techview.com.my/product/217849/

Actually is graphic card necessary if im just going to watch shows?

SSd capacity seems alright, but RAM too small, 16 GB is sweet spot, for 8GB ram you cant leave any background task if you plays game, Windows 11 will eat 25 to 50%
Abnormal things such as crash/force-close will occur due to lack of ram.
*
Ahh, hard to find laptops that have 16GB. Lemme browse around and see. Dell G series might have, hmm.

What kind of games are you playing?
If not graphic heavy can consider non-gaming lappy

Low end gaming laptop design cost all go to high refresh rate display and big cooler ,then they squeeze last cost to ram, that's what's you get for 8gb ram.
*
I’m also thinking about this Dell.

https://www.dell.com/en-my/shop/cty/dell-g1...-15-5520-laptop

Still considering very hard if I should get a gaming laptop or just a normal laptop without any graphic cards. The difference is like 2-3K with and without graphics cards. If I wish to play games ever again, it looks like I might need to just get consoles. These days I find myself enjoying it more just watching let’s play then playing it outright.

if you get AMD model, you can choose RTX 3060 variant, it's overal better than Asus tuf lappy at same price.
*
I am taking Intel. I think the AMD for laptops aren't that stable yet and has a lot of heating issues from I read?
These are my specs:

https://www.dell.com/en-my/shop/laptops/int...p/hng55202600my

The shop that I am ordering from, can trade in my PC + discounts for the Dell laptop. We will see how it goes. Still checking with them.

Which laptops have very nice out of the box audio? Does Dell have decent audio? I’m also considering MacBook but still more inclined towards windows.

find laptops with up firing speakers and multiple speakers, example speaker system with tweeter and woofers, example yoga slim 7 carbon, but don't buy that.

Your recommendation and then DONT BUY THAT, that's funny!

The gaming requirement is heavy (not just on price, but physically) coz of the additional heat  mega_shok.gif

For 4k why not get a MBA - MacBook Air 13" (M2)

Gaming wise use geforce now subscription
*
You mean i can play games from GeForce Now Subscription on Macbook? It's a cloud gaming thing? So it doesn't heat up the macbook?

Yes. Cloud gaming whereby ur MacBook is like a terminal only it doesn’t need to do most of the heavy lifting.

But your internet needs to be really good. I haven’t heard any Malaysians that do that here yet. Need some reviews of real experiences.
