There is one more ritual in addition to the cleaning of the leaf…that involves water…

After the food is served, before it is eaten, there is one important ritual. The food is ‘purified’ and the vibrations of the place where the leaf is kept are also cleansed, apart from the ingress of insects and ants is prevented…after that the food is eaten normally….and when the food is eaten (not necessary that the plate is emptied), the guest signifies that he has finished by again a circular motion of the hand with water around the leaf and a small sip of the water…and waits for others in line to finish their meals before getting up to go…

Actually if you really wanna follow, there is a pantang in how you fold your banana leaf  after makan.
Best etiquette is after makan, you should fold like this



If you attend a funeral house, (or if you don't like the food at restaurant as in food really sucks), You fold opposite. Its also rude but u are telling ur shop fellow that your food memang teruk. So you don't do this at your friend's house lah.

But if u didn't close your banana leaf, that's akin to disrespect and people assume you have no ethics, (like animal after makan, leave the banana leaf on table expose).
before and after makan, you should wet your banana leaf (a bit)

In India, if you eat with banana leaf, it conforms your status, it seems.

Been told Indian Malaysians coming to India were served with banana leaf, whilst the other Malaysians with plates.  Correct ah?
