short report..
our boat whole morning eating "sai pak fung" and pak kor yi mai fu chuk thong sui" no action from bottom, sail and jig.. feeding frenzy started around 2 pm when our tekong suggest to go 2 another spot..

upon arrival the tekong park the boat, as soon as our boat is parked .. brudder siong(jowe) got its first strike from a merah, nice table size slurpp.. then everyone getting real busy and kelam kabut hahaha, everyone getting a strike from merah.. taruk makan.. gigit macam babi gila aka "khong ngau"

we had quite some number of miss Q due to large hook.. anyway we landed a total of 14 merah around 700g-800g, and a jackpot merah around 1kilo.. jackpot already masuk our tummy during dinner time. =)

uhh end of the mono attach to spreader swivel using double surgeon loop..

use wire line to tie hook (prawn hook method) then at the end of wire line use a swivel and crimp to secure the connection..

finally attacth the completed hook rig using a double surgeon loop again.. this is whut my sifu teach me he he.

a 60lbs leader should be more then enuff if ur main line is 65lbs ... cheapkai rm0.80 mia leader pun boleh....

I might be able to arrange some sort of transport for you, brudder tshiong olang kl,maybe you can tag along on his ride. We usually meet up at seremban around 5, then drive to linggi, estimated to reach linggi around 6pm then hantam dinner. Around 6.40~7pm depart from jetty edi, tekong will navigate us to some spot to get live bait such as sotong n todak which required about 1-2 hour of ride. Once we had enuff supply of fresh bait.. we head to battle ground, battle spot very subjective i wont know where tekong gonna bring us.. spot could be karang area or ship wreck. Last call around 10 am then cabut back to shoreline, estimated to reach shore around 12-1pm.. then follow by a simple lunch with sup sotong

here's some pantang.
-no footwear when you are onboard. Your selipar jepun will be kept somewhere on the boat. no worries.
-tekong will pray for safety and luck, so dont ask whut's he's doing when u see he's doing something fishy.
-tekong anti camera, so no photo session on board. Previously we kena tiau kau kau when a fren of mine trying to snap some pic when my bud havin a duel with a 3k mia angjoh. Once u off the boat.. cam whore as much as you want.

abu bg 10k is a good multiplier with plenty of power.. no prob cranking a 8kg stingray along with a no24 lead sinker.. but there's a drawback.. that reel damn 9 slow... hahaha

you can get a China (gold color) mali single speed around rm380... if Sweden(black color) with auto 2 speed, that reel would cost around 700 buck and it's very rare, old ah pek love these reel .. hrmm especially my sifu .. but's for me it's pain in the arse to use them hahaa

anyway i would suggest you to topup your budget and get a better reel from daiwa or shimano if you were targeting species as you mention. From the link you provide, those guys were using a setup cost nothing less then RM2k. btw I saw shimano tiagra 2-speed on most of the picture .. the reel itself cost above 2k already not including rod... some fully bad arse rollered rods.. lol .. prepare at least 3-4k for those setup ...

For our water here.. a 1k setup should be more then enough for you to sapu malacca strait edi
