RM499? I got it for GBP 150 from Amazon UK last month Yeah basically it runs on Linux. You can even put a torrent client or set up a uPnP streaming server. More info here -> http://wiki.dns323.info/Another similar device is QNAP TS-209. It has more built-in applications than the 323. It's just a matter of preference. I bought the 323 because I'm only have a laptop and like to move around so a standalone device is more convenient for me. Whatever it is, using an old PC is cheaper and more scalable

One of my drive in the 323 has died just now.. There is a burnt smell on the broken drive but the other one is just fine. I dont know whether the fault is caused by the 323 or the drive itself

QUOTE(JinXXX @ Apr 17 2008, 10:59 PM) burnt smell ? damn thats bad.. is your 323 attached to any ups/avr ? if not better get one.. you managed to see what is burned ? on the broken hd ? There was a smell of burning plastic near to the connector of the drive (on the HDD side). The box suddenly turned itself off when I was doing my work. The NAS refused to start if the faulty drive is still in the unit. I managed to access my file on the other HDD after I removed the faulty drive. I dare not to insert the working HDD into the other slot because slot is causing the drive to fail. I'll just wait for the new drive to be RMA-ed. Fortunately I'm using the RAID-1 setup. If not I can kiss my schoolworks bye bye
