it seems like majority of stpm students are eager to enter public uni even they got a course tat is not their choice. reason? u may like it later or u can save lots of money.

so the question is for those ex stpm students who didnt enter public uni. wat are the reasons u didnt enter public uni? did u continue studying or work already after stpm? wat do u feel of the choices given? do u think u deserve it? do u think that form 6 wasted ur time? and dun forget to post up ur cgpa and the course that u got.

A survey? tongue.gif

I did my STPM last year, 2006 batch and got not so good results. CGPA starting with 2 tongue.gif, didnt get any course in public U (applied com sci), expected wont get any place so i went private uni. But one of my friend who have similar results as me, didnt get at first, went and appeal got UM to do physics shocking.gif, kinda regreted didnt appeal.

Form 6 a waste of time? Nah, it is a good training ground to enter uni actually.

I sometimes feel sad that most people see form 6 as a waste of time. Yes, I admit to you form 6 IS NOT a honeymoon stage. The heavy loads are throw in your face right at the start. Form 6 covers more shites than matriculation, so expect to get exhausted.

Study form 6 does come with a reward beside getting your uber high zomg CGPA, it helps you in your study when you enter any universities, espacially in revision. Mostly, and I emphasise MOSTLY you will normal when the heavy loads come crashing down on you.

Form 6 is like going to hell and back, that's what I say to myself. It helps you think "deeper".

That's all my 1 sen worth. My CGPA ? 2.47. And I have a powderful england. *rolls eyes*

Wel..initially i did enter form 6 with the intention of going to public uni. however, when the time came, i entered a private uni without waiting for the results. smile.gif which is lucky, coz i didnt get a place anyway. tongue.gif

To be, Form6 gave me a head start in the subjects, as mentioned above, the workload during uni doesnt come as a surprise as STPM students are already used to it. Moreover, many of the subjects especially in Year 1 of uni is somewhat a repeat of what we have done in form 6. So first year in uni is not so hard to adapt to.

can i say something here . i am in utm studying course i wanted at uni i wanted .
basically i was not called for interview for architecture , and i appealed directly from the university via some guides from azari and xtrajustin . well , things are quite tough , i appealed from 3 person to asked them to give me a chance to go for the interview the first 2 didnt give me a good answer and the third one allowed me .
well, if i didnt apply , i bet i am still hanging outside at private uni .

why i said so is becasue 2.92 is not too good for most of the courses out there . USM didnt call me up for interview , UM certianly cannot enter architectural couse . UPM although the Arc course is not as good as UTM , but most of the people who entered UPM architectural course got quite high CGPA . back to the topic , god bless that UTM is based on interview , or else i can officially post somehting at here already .

and i just want to add that, Form 6 is certainly not a waste of time . i have learned everything from 0 from lower six with my frined's support . why i say i learn form 0 is becasue during form 4 and fomr 5 , i was on my honey moon years ... it was fun to ponteng school and play football , party at firned's place . my form 4 and 5 classmates are kinda playful type , add me as a playful student , all became teruk . and i got 3A 5B 3C in my SPM . i took STPM and i got A- B- B- B- in the exam , not a good result but i must say , thank you to my frineds in my form6 life , although no ponteng and ponteng sekolah ... but Form6 Studies is really enjoy-able , i learnt how stuff works aorund me , how to make the tire move , circular motion , Why This Co2 +H2SO4 got this that ... this type of understanding makes F6 really fun .

to be honest , my form 5 frineds (whole class classmates), 50% went to Private U, some quit in the middle of studies . . 10% working , 40% take form 6 . out of 40% who entered F6 , 10% managed to get into reputable Uni . 20% get funny university and 10% didnt get any uni .
my Form 6 friends , 65% entered reputable Universities (UM UTM USM UPM UKM), 15% entered NewUniversities ,15% Got NUS and NTU , 5% go to TARC or UTAR .

well...joining different type of friends do make alot of difference . especially during 18-20age. where your mind will start to see the real world .

Form 6 ? Hard ? Not so ...depends on yourself . No people will help you if you dont help yourself.

seriously not 2 show off here, but just 2 give u a rough idea of what a STPM student went through.

STPM: 4.00
Course: Unimas, Sarawak Medicine.
Feeling after knowin the admission result: frustrated, cos i got A's in every single sub-papers and even MUET Band 6. CCA 8.2
I rejected the offer n chose 2 do medicine in NUS.
Form6 a waste of time? Not really, cos i used STPM 2 apply NUS. but if u r comparin STPM wif the other pre-U exams, it makes no diff in medical school cos in medschool, u got 2 study alot of stuff.

having been involved in some of the intake programmes in UTM, i'll give my point of view.

quite a majority of applicants from STPM were just trying their luck. some of them already knew that with whatever results they have, they have slim chance of getting in. but that doesnt stop the from applying, just for luck, who knows? biggrin.gif.

those who didnt bother to try would almost immediately opt for local IPTS, especially those with twinning programmes to go overseas. with PTPTN widely available, it's not hard for them to secure fundings to study. even those who didnt get the course that they want in IPTAs would opt to go to IPTS. the attitude usually is, if u dont like it, it's virtually impossible to be excellent in that course.

and finally, the only people who thinks that form 6 is a waste of time are those who managed to go into matrics, or those who skipped into diploma.

1) UKM Medic
2) USM Medic
3) UPM Medic
4) Unimas Medic

8) UM Medic

Maybe they got angry wif UM Medic as the last choice.

But i'm sure Unimas and UMS medic are very common STPM 4 Flats.

If u r seriously askin this Q, then u r definitely not sure what's happenin in Malaysia.

How many of the Malays got 4.00 in STPM last year? as far as i know=0
How many Malaysian Malays are there in NUS? as far as i know=0

basically the probability is 0

Form6 is not wasting time, as nowadays it's a stepping stone to enter local uni.

STPM: 3.xx
Course: Chemical Eng at UTM (just grad)

It's my 2nd choice and i'm happy with it.

For those who can't enter local uni, either u appeal, or go on for private uni. At least nowadays, take a diploma or degree, or better, master or PhD. This is better rather than stuck at STPM level.
Just my 2cents.

Form 6 a waste of time? Hell NO!
can proudly say it's one of the best year of my sch life.
though ppl usually work hard in this 1 and a half years,
I think i'm kinda opposite with lots of slacking.
which explain my somehow quite dissapointed CPGA score.

CPGA : 3.00-3.5

but i wanted to save time, therefore i opt for private college.
dowan to waste the time waiting for results and in the end
not given the course I interested or wanted.
but i was given quite a respectable course (mechanical engineering)
but just as i expected, the uni is lousy ones.
UMP (Pahang) as a matter of fact (never hear of it previously).
currently doing E&E engineering instead for a foreign degree (3+0)
can save another year of studying but ppl mention STPM is like 1st year of uni.
sad to say, not in my case (except the maths).
STPM covers quite few E&E syllabus compare to my fellow coursemates who took UEC.
now looking back, kinda regret din study hard enough.
but the course i wanted need a CPGA 4.00 so i guess can forget bt it.

A lot of high demand courses offered in UM are reserved for matriculation student.

STPM student only take the left over.

It IS a waste of time. It's no surprise that it helps you when you enter university (and only in related subjects), just like carrying loads of rocks on your back can "help" you to carry less rocks later.
