QUOTE(11Jan @ Jul 3 2008, 04:08 PM) hahahah, that would be nice! my bed will be full of chinchillas then Everybody also wish to have a super big chinchilla to hug for sleep. Chinchillas, for male chins which are NOT used for breeding.. will we have to remove hair ring often for them? from what i have read, we need to check about once every 1-2 months... but in reality, is that the case? just wondering if its more frequent or less frequent... my husband is very uncomfortable with the idea of doing the hair ring removal hahahahahaha he says he doesn't want to violate the chin, even tho i've told him that it is necessary to make sure the chin is healthy, no blood circulation problem or infection etc.. Hair ring check is a common practise among breeding chin, if for none breeding chin, hair ring check can be done WHEN neccesary or 2 months once. It is a very simple thing, but need some 'practise' tho. Just make sure don't pull untill it break.. ![]() The ugly side of chinchilla(only this chin...FLATTEN! Ugly....) |

Added on July 4, 2008, 11:44 am QUOTE(11Jan @ Jul 4 2008, 08:59 AM) ya lor, quite afraid of pulling too hard, and then i read that we must be careful not to pull out too much, if not then it cannot go in again hahah i think that's why he is scared of doing it.. because of that he is thinking better get female chin haha Some chin owner didnt do it as well. From my experience, dont worry if you didnt do checking. THINK about rancher, they have few thousands male chins, they dont do hair ring check for they male at all(unless sign appear) she is pregnant? she must have a very firm tummy!! hehe This post has been edited by Chinchillas: Jul 4 2008, 11:44 AM |

QUOTE(stardust @ Jul 4 2008, 12:27 PM) later bro , its not easy to take pic of the chin . i try to take a few pics, but not very nice. i didn't on the flash , so the pic is abit dark . Great! That is a healthy sign of a baby chin active at night. All small animal will love alfalfa hay, but it can't be feed all the time except now when the chin still young need extra protein and calcium. i have to take it out from the cage in order to take clear view of it . but the chin is hyper active at night. can't even stay at the spot for 3 second . then begin to explore the place. i bought the alfafa and oat hay , mix with timothy , the chin love it. i think he like alfafa most . |

Flying sauce pan can only get from US/UK. Enable to use the saucer pan, you need to have your chin in air con room. If Chinchilla is rare in none AC condition, running wheel(above 15") or sauce pan is not encourage to be use in our climate without AC, even hv need to be limit.

QUOTE(stardust @ Jul 4 2008, 10:14 PM) 1 question , how long does it need for chin to complete his bath? Is normal for chin to roll on the dust and jump out again, then go in again, their playing. You just leave the bath house in there for 10mins, then take out, dont leave there entire day.mine bath ( pusing - pusing ) for 2 minutes , then stop , rest, go out , then come in to continue . i put the bathing dust in a box , and put inside the cage, everytime he pass by , sure he will start bathing again . |

QUOTE(vincent_cbl @ Jul 6 2008, 02:43 AM) hey....anybody tell me,how to breed a chin ar.... How old is your male and female? Do you do some research first before putting your chin into breeding? Breeding, every body will hv that temptation, fully study on what you going to do and check out your chin background is very important, is your chin a breeding quality? i got a male and female in a same cage about 6 month .... why................. help........me....! Lastly can you handle the consequences that will happen if your chin have problem to delivery baby, baby get stuck, mother die, can you hand feed the baby every 1 hour, day and night, even you sleep at night for 3 weeks? Chinchilla can get pregnant at 4 months of age, that will make you young chin into total disaster if she cannot handle the baby and herself still in the growing stage. How about you do more study first? Seperate them for now in difference cage, go to the first page of this thread, click the links that for your reading, study hard, let's learn more before try to create baby chin. |

Then the plastic the my chin didt chewing it...maybe i gave them the chewing block( look like cement block very hard)... anywhere thank a lot 11Jan..... Added on July 8, 2008, 11:50 pm heheh...oh sorry....cause i need to learn much.....but i already read the article from wedsite erm....it my false and careless to take care of them.... thank you "chinchillas" ..... anywhere ....i didt decide to breed them.... but i putting them together about 6 month then no pregnant ... so ....i just want to no the reason only...hehe.... i bought the male chinchillas because he so charming.... i like it so much.... some of my friend(chinchillas owner) scare me that one of my chins was "cut"... Actually i got the cages for chinchillas...because i put them in my room ...the sand and the bedding blow the whole room.... then i sleep on my own bed i feel the sand...hahaha... that why i porposely go and buy aquarium so i need to change it to the previous cage.... but the chin's cage i only got one...other is dog's cage... erm....let me think how separate them 1st... thank you "chinchillas.... Added on July 9, 2008, 12:01 amhey..."chinchillas"....other than the aquarium and plastic right....what else shall i remove it? thank for help....... thank to 11 jan too..... 11 Jan have give you very good pointer there to remove something. The plastic house, the wheel, and the stick is not the right material to place in your chin 'tank', so all have to remove. You can look for the right material and decorate it as you desire, but make sure ALL IS SAFE FOR YOU GORGEOUS CHINCHILLA. Your can get a ceremic house or wooden house.(save wood house for your chin, if you can't get a untreated Pine wood house, PM me, you can purchased from me.) For the wheel, min 15" is the suggestion for chinchilla, actually is also too small, you need at least 18" wheel with SIDE COVER. For the 'stick', you can get some jumping platform from pet store, look around Pet safari, you should get some there. For the cage, you can get quality Tommy cage from Marchioro, is very good cage for keeping chinchilla, need to spend a bit tho. When you have proper CAGE, you can do a lot of thing in it with the space available, why not get a 2 storey cage and do a nice mention, some toys, hammock, some chew block for your chins? They can hv lots of fun living in it. The block if it is too hard, hard like cement, mean you get the wrong type, dont use, you will spoil your chin teeth, get some chew block like Sluis or Puik. You can also do a search on google image, 'chinchilla cage', you can get lot of ideal how ppl place item in they chin cage. For the pregnant part of your chin, some chin doesnt get pregnant at all, no matter how you place them, they can stay together for years and not have kits. Secondly is the health of the female, if she know she is not in good shape, she will not pregnant, even she had, she will abort it. You need to check the weight of your chin, min weight of 600gram-650gram to be a guide line for female to place in breeding and the chin quality(fur and shape) is up for breeding. POOR chin + POOR chin = VERY POOR CHIN. To seperate the 2 chins, you can get 2 smaller cage with your budget, not too small that they cannot run and jump and place them side by side. Vincent, when a chin begin move to a new place, they will need time to get use to the new place again, that will make them more calm. Chinchilla hv no problem staying alone. The tank still not the right place to keep any of them, save some money buy a proper cage.
What kind of balance food you feed them? and if you use tank, how you put your water bottle? feed them from bowl will cause them to jump on it and over turn it. Lastly, i suggest you continue to do what ever reading you think you lack, is good for you and your chin. Here have 2 links for you to read. http://www.petmag.co.uk/chinchilla/care.html http://www.huggablepets.com/huggablepets/chininfo.shtml You can get a proper chew toy from 11jan. PM her. Vincent, If the food with lots of colouring 'food' inside if yes, you can throw away right away. You need to change to plain pellet, no other colouring stuff in there. You shouldn't listen to your friend who did not have any chinchilla or listen to any of the pet shop ppl, this will show if you do research and study properly on care fact of chinchilla.
Look for PLAIN pellet brand like kaytee, you can get easily from pet shop. You no need to control feeding toward chinchilla, they wont over eat, just fill the bowl with pellet, a handful of timothy hay, a little bit of alfalfa hay, clean water, that's all. The dog drinking bottle is suitable, those that can fit in any mineral bottle. Please BROWSE through this thread , and read the conversation, you sound very raw.
