Hi guys,

Need your opinion. I am thinking of changing my LG C8 OLED back to Sony. For around RM9500 to RM10k I can get either X90J 75 inch or A80J 65 inch OLED.

Both about the same price few hundred difference. I turn on the TV more than 8 hours a day, watching mainly news/talk shows/occasional movies. Mostly youtube/neflix only.

Thinking of going for 75 inch X90j, but just worried might not get used from OLED back to LED.

Any advice which to get? Also is it true 75 inch X90J made in Japan?

Thanks.

Hi guys, I just switched from 55 LG C8 to 65 Sony A8h. Surprisingly I don't find much improvement from C8 to a8h. C8 I did tune and adjust setting a lot using example from internet, however Sony A8h I use mostly default because it seems Sony setting not much to play around with compared to LG.

I am using YouTube and Netflix only, plus live free to air channels. Even the motion flow that Sony is supposed to be good is almost similar to LG C8 which is strange for me.

I updated to latest firmware. So is it because the input is not good enough for Sony to display awesome pic quality or is it because I am not used to 65 inch yet? In terms of OS, I miss LG ability to have shortcuts and using the magic pointer to jump scenes. Sometimes Sony Android will jam and suddenly black screen for min 10 seconds.

Hi all,

I have both LG C8 and Sony A80J. The LG C8 has burn in so bad (CNN bar area) and out of warranty I just live with it. The Sony A80J after 1 year plus use has a burn in line around the CNN bar area too, but requested a warranty and now waiting for screen change.

Moving on I think OLED TV not suitable for me as I watch way too much news program and on TV more than 8 hours a day.

Should go for X85K or X90K? I dont play games currently, so I think X90K better?

I don't know if I should stick to OLED or just go X series. Appreciate good advice here. I watch mainly youtube and netflix only.

I suggest you buy a cheap TV for the news program. And a good TV for your Netflix/movie usage. If that A80J can get a screen change, then use that as your movie TV and a cheap TV like Hisense for your news viewing.

Cannot have 2 TVs. The TV in my room and connected to soundbar. I just like to know if the LCD or LED TVs like X90 or 85 series will not have burn in issues? When I check internet rtings got one model after heavy use got colour uniformity issues. Actually within 2 years some also will have line issues too... Hmm...

Not sure if QN95B is still available as of now. I think most retail stores already ran out of stock

Sony is still champion when it comes to picture processing.... but doubt anyone would notice the difference unless they have both TVs side by side in the same setting and scenario

But I can see many who went and tried other brands still vouching for Sony in the end

Hi there, let me share with you my experience.

I got Sony LCD TV and OLED TV. I watch sports, games (live competition) and news. Both my Sony and LG OLED TV burn in static mark within 1.5 years. I just changed my OLED screen after 1.5 years under warranty and I believe within 1 to 1.5 years sure will have static burn in. My LG OLED has burn in static quite bad but warranty finish.

I thought of getting LCD (not sure about miniLed) but was reminded by my Sony TV guy their experience is LCD TV after 2 years also will have issue, lines along screen or distorted picture. All depending on luck. So in the end my next TV will be OLED too since I have several old LCD Sony TVs indeed having line issue.

Don't really like Samsung colour even though makes sense for me to have a Samsung TV to go with my Samsung 990b soundbar.

Do let us know how is your new Samsung TV and which one you eventually getting.

OLED prices seem to be going down, global trend is like that. But like musang king durian, the price is somewhat controlled in Malaysia and our weak ringgit not helping.

thanks for sharing. I'm surprised you would still go back to OLED despite the prior experience

just like you, I know i will be watching a variety of contents including sports and gaming, so I knew it's not gonna be OLED, I'm not spending more than 9 - 10k+ on a TV just to have it suffer issues in less than 5 years.

my next best bet would be miniLED but the choice is really limited in our market as of now

Samsung is the obvious choice.... its just that I'll need to forget about Dolby Vision, which is something I'm still on the fence now. Some say it doesn't matter, while some who are used to it will say they will never get another TV without it

if what you are after is colour accuracy (since u mention u dont like Samsung colours?), Sony seems to be the best choice but not sure if you are willing to go Sony again after your experience. LG seems ok as well judging from reviews of their 2023 models

OLED picture definitely better than LCD. When you watch OLED extensively for a period of time, you won't find anything wrong. But once you go back to LCD you can tell the difference. I might still buy a premium LCD next time if the pic processing and quality good. If you have Netflix high HD package, then a lot of movies have dolby vision and atmos. Samsung picture processing to me not as natural as Sony. As I said, LCD has its own issue too. There's a RTing website that they tested a lot of the TVs, you can google it. For me I will stick to Sony since I don't do gaming, I only watch those gaming competitions from youtube and twitch. LG OLED is good, but I am just used to Sony. If LG you know how to configure and fine tune, the picture quality will not lose to Sony. But Sony to me has more smooth picture motion and upscaling. Lazy people just go for Sony.

If one day I buy Samsung, it is really for my atmos Samsung soundbar and my S23 ultra phone.

What's your OLED light level when you are watching sports, live games and news?

I don't really know. I just use the default. I am lazy. But I did follow some Sony experts recommendation like turning off the light sensor etc.

how come u can change ur sony OLED within warranty but LG could not? LG has shorter warranty period?

my 32-inch sony super old tv bought in 2010 has a line prob after i did not use it for a while which last year april i just use it again, but suprisingly the line disappeared or to the extend that i could not notice automatically. not sure why though. tongue.gif

OLED tv seriously is still very ex. 55-inch is still selling at rm9843 which is quite hard to swallow.  tongue.gif

Hi folks,

I am getting a bit fed up with my current Sony A80J, out of warranty and there's burn in mark already. I watch a lot of news so very easy to get this.

Thinking of getting the new Bravia 8 ii when it comes out, but so far internet review is super expensive. Can I check if the new Bravia 5 is any legit? Their new mini led tv.

I am also considering the premium version of TCL, but I don't know if TCL support and quality there. Review seems not bad and much cheaper than Sony. Would TCL be legit enough to replace Sony A80J?

I can get mini led or oled, no difference to me. Watch mainly youtube and tvbox/netflix.

Wow. How long u had used ur A80J
Mine is almost 2 years so far so good. But I watch movies and YouTube more. Rarely watch free air channels so I supposed should be safer.

My experience with A80J tells me that even if u just watch free air channels and YouTube, can still tell the difference. As the black level still make the picture quality nicer even on these content. I can be sure Becos I just compare it today with x90k. It is certainly able to tell the difference with eyes.

Besides how bad is the burnt mark actually? A80J has a feature that can refresh the panel to attempt to reduce or remove the burnt mark. Have you tried it already also?

I had been constantly viewing all the models of Sony tvs at electrical shops or home fairs etc.

While there is no Bravia 9 on display which is the best and highest end TVs which Sony even place it above Bravia 8 oled and Bravia 8 mark II. My experience with Bravia 7 and Brivia 5 today I can say that they are still no way comparable to OLED. The true black does make day and night difference which I can tell a display if it is OLED or mini LED easily.

Since u have been using A80J OLED all the while, u can certainly tell this difference still if u downgrade to mini led.

I used more than 2 years already. Already changed one time the oled panel during the 2 years warranty and after one year now slight marks. I watch those youtube talk shows etc, so tons of static icons here and there. Bravia 9 is mini led right? Sony after sales quite good. So not sure about TCL.

I thought now the newer mini led is as good or better than oled? Anyway I will wait to see the price first. TCL looks so much cheaper. C8k specs look good. I watch mainly live competitions (game) and news/talk show type of shows in youtube.
