time to get a surge protector for your new TV
*
Currently I have one dedicated power line pull from switch box (both live and neutral line isolated by power ON/OFF switch) and fetch to my 5KVA Auto transformer / automatic voltage stabilizer regulated to 220VAC +/- 2% for all my Audio Video equipment which includes OLED TV, AV Home Theater, Audio system (stereo amplifier, pre-amplifier, DAC, DDC, OCK generator and etc). Hopefully together with 2 units of the surge protectors, they are all well protected from the incoming AC 232 - 246 V fluctuation as well as thunderstorm. I also cut the incoming supply OFF during thunderstorm or nobody at home whenever possible.

Too much risk if I am not doing anything to protect my investment.

Damn it, I have a bunch of Dolby Vision contents in my USB, but apparently DV is not supported(has green and purple tint) via USB?

I tried to play the video using VLC, Kodi and built-in player, they don't work. sad.gif

Probably due to hardware not supporting Dolby Vision format due to Dolby licensing policies.

Similarly Samsung smart TVs do not support Dolby Vision format because Samsung not willing to pay Dolby license for Dolby Vision. So Samsung comes out with their own version by developing HDR10+ format. Sadly not many content creators support HDR10+.

Can try checking with Desa Home Theater. Should be around 14k since Sony official store is selling it at 14999 now

Is the size an absolute must? Because you can probably consider a 65" A95L already
*
The cheapest I can get is SenQ Sony Bravia Early Bird Promo (20/09 - 08/10) for XR-65A95L is RM 18,599 (Free PS5 Digital Version) advertised @ Shopee today. SONY MALAYSIA is selling at RM 19,999 same promo package.

At that price tag, why not consider the 77" A80 series instead?  hmm.gif

My LG OLED55C8 already 5 years old. So far so good. According to industry feedback current TV lifespan (failure rate) is around 4 to 8 years old for most of the premium model, I am currently doing some home work what's available in the market. Try not to spend more than RM 4K / year (based on failure rate 4 years) on TV.

My target TV size 75" or 85" with budget RM 15K max this year. 65" could be rather small to me as my current seating distance from OLED TV is 8.5 feet.

My initial planning is to get TCL 75C845 which I was told around RM 9.5K after TnG e-Wallet rebate. But after view few reviews available, apparently SONY 75X90L (FALD) is superior in picture details, much better colour accuracy and upscale while TCL is more to extreme in colour presentation and less booming. They both about same price. While Hisense U7K perform below par to C845 and X90L.

So 85X95L, 77A80L, 65A95L is out from now. Samsung with no Dolby Vision is also out from my shopping list too.

If my OLED TV can last me another year, probably I can consider 85X95L, 77A80L or 65A95L (or their 2024 respective model) by then.

Thinking to get ethernet adapter for my Sony TV KD-X85L. USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter can be used and only RTL8153 chipset compatible instead of AX88179 chipset. There are plenty of RTL8153 chipset Ethernet Network Adapter from cheap around RM20 up to TP-link UE300 more than RM80. Anyone using those cheap but reliable one? Or must go for brand one?

Works fine with my XR-A80L

Coming from a 7 year old LED TV. Was targeting to get X90L but got poisoned into OLED.

Can't seem to decide on LG C3 or A80L. Price difference around RM450.

Will be using the tv mainly for streaming apps, movies and Nintendo Switch. Thought that the upscaling capabilities from Sony will be more useful for my usage but reading online about how the A80L being a lot dimmer compared to C3 has concerned me a bit.

Anyone here have any experience/comments on the A80's brightness or has been through my dilemma?  biggrin.gif  blush.gif

Sony A80L uses the same panel as LG C3. So one panel is dimmer than the other should not be very significant if there is any.

If you use the OLED TV frequently on streaming app like YouTube (mainly 720p/1080P), upscaling performance is very important as you don't want to miss out the micro contrast which SONY A80L has the upper hand over here.

finally decided to get a80l over lg c3. found a sales advisor at the shop that was willing to play some videos on both tvs for me to compare.

definitely can see the c3 being slightly brighter but picture quality i enjoyed the a80l more. hard to explain but something like colours were more true to life. also during the video playback from pendrive, the lg c3 video juddered a few times while a80l was smooth throughout.

what helped me decide also was on the day i was to put down my order, the price for c3 went up by rm180 and a80l got reduced by rm50. made the price difference even less between the 2 models. even though the sony was pricier, i went with what i like and the sony brand name kinda helped too!

thanks guys for your inputs too! waiting for my new tv and hope it will last me a while

Definitely a good choice of choosing A80L.. Sony colour not as pop as others like Samsung and LG but more natural to me too. Most of the time, picture settings just set and forget. You don't need to fine tune now and then because of the tv program or streaming materials.

I owned a80l 77" in a living room with big window panel next to the tv. Light is not directly to the tv but more from side. To me the brightness is not an issue as during bright daylight I am still impressed by the colour accuracy and overall brightness of the panel.

me too with 77A80L. No regret.

SONY Malaysia just sent me email message with TnG eWallet Reload pin x 2 in conjunction with their "Joyful Green Christmas with My Sony" campaign after registered my purchased on line with them.

I was rewarded RM 500 x 2 as a token of appreciation from them. I was totally surprise as I didn't aware of such campaign when i did my product registration on line with My Sony few months ago.
