asking on behalf of a fren now checking 65" A80J, A90J.

he said the extended warranty to 5 years from one dealer is +18% or so.

does anyone know if this is normal?

what about X80J, X90J... the extended warranty cost?

Any recommendation for mid range toslink? Am looking at this...
case durable | UGREEN 2 Meters Toslink Digital Cable Optical Fiber Audio Cable Adapter Fiber Optic Toslink AV for TV Blueray PS3 XBOX DVD CD Mini Disc | https://s.lazada.com.my/s.WKoeh
*
dun worry too much - toslink isn't demanding, just average cost one will do.

i am using 2 of them - one very old, one newer - same result.

eyeing for Sony 90J 65 inch, currently lowest price RM6299. Hope can get one below 6k during 11.11 sales
*
let's hope some nice discounts for 11.11!

but somehow, i'm not too optimistic... currents reports of apple forced to cut production, AVR makers facing chip shortage.

+ shipping, oil, gas, commodity prices skyrocketing... shakehead.gif

I cant afford OLED la... of course I would like to have a OLED but the price is just too much. I think OLED individual self lit pixel and response time already a win for me. OLED is not perfect since it also have its own problem like black crush and could also be dimmer later on as the usage accumulated.

Delivery guy called me yesterday... probably receiving around 3-4pm later.
*
ya, that's always the question - is the oled worth it as the price diff is significant.

moreover, this oled burn-in issue still exist, doesn't it?

Yeap, absolutely worth it. I still prefer to watch HDR10 / DV contents on my LG OLED than my Sony X90H especially dark scenes with bright details. Though I don't own the A80J so can't say the same for that.

Brightness/peak luminance is just one numerator of HDR range and only OLED can achieve true 0 nits to make the contrast ratio inf.  tongue.gif

thanks for comments.

if HDR/DV is the requirement and if u afford it, OLED it is! biggrin.gif

Managed to squeeze some time to inbox and setup the tv.

What a big difference in hdr compared to Hisense A7400F. I think the Hisense is IPS screen since it's lacking in contrast. There's some adjustment needed to get used to it honestly.

1. The Hisense maybe dull and bloom but the brightness stay the same throughout bright and dark scene. X90J is a lot better but sometimes the transition between brighter and darker scene is quite blinding to the eyes. TheHisense though is impossible to watch in dark room (too bright) whereas the X90J don't have this problem.

2. I just need to use standard and lower brightness to 40. Colours is really nice unlike the flat colour on my Hisense. Red and green especially really pop off. There's too many setting on X90J to be honest.

3. Another thing I really like is the motion compensation. Whenever I tried to do black screen insertion in Hisense, it seems to make it worse. I had to set judder to 0 and blur to 3. The X90J don't have any problem even when motion compensation is on by default.
*
bolded is interesting.

what do u usually watch - netflix, astro, local playback?

curious if this effect is diff or much the same for HDR10 vs DV for same video title on the X90J.

Just watched for 2hours or so. I was watching Jirisan on iQiyi. The shoot was like from far away then pan into the actor somewhere in the scene through another angle, I do find the different in brightness in quite huge. It is a bit like watching movies in cinema, bright then dark scene then bright again.
*
ah... iqiyi is only SDR.

if that effect is already there with SDR, probably more prominent with HDR and DV?

yes, i do find it a bit annoying on my current TV, this sudden change in brightness.

was thinking if it is better on newer/better TVs now.

I did try to find out the codec, it does not appear to be unusual. The point is that the file is decoded properly on PC and my phone, it is just not decoded properly on the Sony TV. If you search the internet, Sony and other branded TVs are common to have decoding problem with MKV.

TV apps for playback are basic.

they dun work well with certain rips.

TV and most boxes are built to do online streaming.

only certain dedicated media boxes can handle all/most videos for playback, esp big and complex ones.

true that money and size does matter here.....

by the way, astro Go app is available on this Google TV right?
*
x90k is "better" than x85k, $ also higher la... biggrin.gif

astrogo? nah... it doesn't work on ATV devices, by design.

it works on a minority of android boxes; some need modified apks, some dun - these r rare.

if u decide to buy x85k or x90k, pls post here... price, seller, etc...

i m eyeing these 2 too, thanks! thumbsup.gif

ceiling height is high, that's why the wall looks big.

i feel just okay with this 55inch when sitting about 8ft away, although could stretch to 65 inch, might get a bit of motion sickness, i get that easily, so i opted for 55 instead of 65.
65 look like a small pc monitor too, unless hang a 85 inch tv, but does it make sense with 8ft sitting/viewing distance? don't think so, at least for me, and especially for wallet.
*
for 8ft, 55" is definitely OK.

my distance is about that, now using 50", ok.

55" will ok too!

Will b no brainer to buy big big $$$ TV if u hv the dough.

Typically, people spend more on a big house first.

Then fit an appropriate TV as best as possible.

There is also existing home theater, console, sofa to consider.

Quite a job to reconfigure unless u r a billionaire.

It's not like the TV or avr or speakers drive yr life!!

according to that table, every room shud hv a 85-120" tv!

and that 1.5x rule... i think only applicable to PC monitors where u need to read every word.

tv for viewing pleasure, if i follow... i will also pening. laugh.gif

if u are in KL go to desa home theatre and ask for price see if they can match or go lower. buying from actual shop better than buy online cause they
send with their own lorry and install for u free.
i bought my tv on lazada and the seller said send with own lorry and install for me. in the end they send with J&T and never call before deliver.
also i had to call my friend to come over help me install
*
thumbsup.gif

my experience with DESA has been good over the years.

2 occasions, i was pleased what they did.

not always the best price, but they do a great job post sale, incl warranty issues.
