TNB ask to pay RM900 security deposit. I am applying for an account for my 3 room condominium. They say it is 2 months worth of electricity bill, but RM900 is just excessive.

Any way I can get them to lower this? On their own website it says for a 3 room condo, RM500. Still excessive but at least a bit lower.

Edit: So far my application fully online

If I only average usage less than RM100, can I claim the excess deposit, as deposit is only based on 2 months average use?

It will not be refunded automatically

You will have to write in citing the clause they put onto their website

However, do not expect them to only hold 2 months worth of deposit even after that

Mine was long time ago, RM300 and usage for 2 months RM100 but they still holding almost RM200 now

I got refund rm700 from deposit of rm900, but took over a month. Very slow.

Letter as below. Of course, to make it official, add your name, address, and date above, and sign off below the body.

RE: Deposit Reduction Application for TNB Account No. xxxxxxxxxxx

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write to you to request for a reduction in the deposit for my TNB account. Currently, the deposit paid is RM900, which I deem to be excessive and is far above the 2 months deposit of estimated monthly electricity usage.

As such, I would like to propose that my deposit amount be reduced to RM100, which should sufficiently cover two months usage, with some additional room should my usage increase in the future.

Please find my details as follows:
Name: Xx
NRIC: xx
TNB Account: xx

At the same time, my bank account details are as follows:
Name: Xx
Bank: Xx
Account: xx

Appreciate your kind assistance to complete this as soon as possible. If you need to reach me, please email me at xx or give me a call at xx.

Yes funds transfer.

Interest earned on deposit cannot be refunded though. That’s what they told me. That money cannot touch.
