I actually wanted to register for Futu Moomoo.

But the fact that they need valid passport more than 6 maths is what turned me off. I have 3 more months before my passport expire also they don’t allow. Now covid time why should I renew my passport? Not going overseas also due to having young kids.

Hence decided to go for Tiger Brokers instead. Got free x1 Apple share there also for first deposit so why not. Mainly for investing in SGX REIT stocks and Tiger’s fees closest to Moomoo.

Tiger new registration now give sucky stock SoFi. No more giving free apple stock. Not worth to open. Moomoo new deposit offer better and now they accept IC for registration also.

seems like Wise cannot deposit. Only SG bank account to Moomoo:

If die2 want use Wise then try Tiger Brokers. Problem with that during withdrawal also you'll need a SG bank account. Withdraw cannot use Wise.

Not worth the cost. Sure lose a lot.

free for this year.. next year will start having platform fees. It is charged based on per order.
My mistake maybe is not holding fees... platform fee is a one off.

for Malaysians will need to transfer SGD into Moomoo then do a currency conversion inside.. that part could be a trap also if FX rate is high.

Update: just got my moomoo approved after I sent in IC as picture even when it mention passport haha.

Now asking them if still eligible for new deposit rewards or not. (2.7k sgd, no more free apple stock )

I went inside the app to check (click on "free stock"), it's until June 2022 this year.
will try and see what stock will get.

overall feel that Moomoo interface is better than Tiger brokers.

The registration process how long to complete? Yest afternoon done but don't see any email.

most important is the MYR to USD (when buy) conversion rate and USD to MYR (when sell). Can check and let us know how it is?
Also can we direct deposit USD into it? After we convert ourselves using e.g. Wise?

yeah that is how Moomoo makes the most money from, during conversion:

For Moomoo:
5000MYR = 1046 USD
1000USD = 4739 MYR (during sell)

Using Wise transfer to IBKR (and back):
5000MYR = 1042 USD
1000usd = 4,919.54MYR (during sell and send back to MY)

(both above havent include in broker fees and other misc charges)

Depends on the user preferability. Some don't like use wise transfer money so far away. They want to do it everything locally.

The few bucks lost via conversion is peanut out of the long term profit .. Most important is got invest. Sit idle in the bank or small amount gain from FD is worse.
