In Malaysia, where Citi has been in for more than six decades, Citi Malaysia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Usman Ahmed assured that the move will not dilute the group's long-term commitment to the country or the Asia Pacific region. Citi has 10 branches in Malaysia — six in the Klang Valley, with one each in Johor and Melaka, and two in Penang, according to its website.
“With this strategic repositioning, we will be able to further invest our resources in significantly growing our institutional business in Malaysia, which spans across corporate and investment banking, commercial banking, markets (including equity brokerage) and treasury and trade solutions. "In addition, our Citi Solutions Centers in Kuala Lumpur and Penang also remain an equally important operations hub for Citi, from where we execute millions of financial transactions worth over US$29 trillion annually for over 50 countries across the globe. There is no immediate change to our operations and no immediate impact to our colleagues as a result of today’s announcement by Citi to pursue an exit from our Consumer Bank business in Malaysia. We will continue to serve our Consumer Banking customers with the same dedication as we do today,” Usman said. Citi Asia Pacific CEO Peter Babej added that the Asia Pacific region is an integral part of the group's global strategy, and a key driver of its growth and value proposition. “We will continue to invest in our network across the region and deliver Citi’s unique global capabilities to clients across all our markets,” Babej added. |

The move to focus on the remaining markets “positions us to capture the strong growth and attractive returns the wealth management business offers through these important hubs.” Citigroup lacked the scale to properly compete in the 13 markets it is leaving, she said. Hmmm I understand what's on their mind. No point concentrate so much resources for peanuts. Go for the big hubs like SG, HK, London where the very wealthy of every country park their money.

The plan is to focus its non U.S. consumer banking operations on Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE and London — places with a great concentration of wealth, according to Fraser.

No timeframe as of now, looking for buyers to get their consumer market clients, operations won’t be affected until the deal is closed.

QUOTE(plouffle0789 @ Apr 16 2021, 07:02 AM) They want to reallocate their resources to focus on locations with more wealth QUOTE Fraser, who is reporting results for the first quarter at the helm of the country’s third-biggest bank, wasted no time in making changes to the firm’s sprawling global operations. The bank is exiting consumer operations in Australia, Bahrain, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The plan is to focus its non-U.S. consumer banking operations on Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE and London — places with a great concentration of wealth, according to Fraser. |

Citi credit card is one of the best.
Their Cash Back speak volumes , at least for my card, beat all other issuers here. For online purchase , esp Amazon, it get passed without any issues , try that with some local banks, I guess high chance wont get through or need Paypal Payment date of cc ~21 days from statement date, but they still give another 3 days of INTEREST FREE grace period after the 21st Try that with Hong Leong Bank, knn, they will charge you overdue interest on day 22th ........ maybe they go back to the ol' COE strategy whereby all back end processing for retail business are done regionally instead of locally. maybe a few local presence here and there fronting but ultimately, all goes back to their outsourcing company.

QUOTE(un.deux.trois @ Apr 16 2021, 01:51 PM) I also like their mobile banking app. The app just looks polished. so far none of our local bank can match their, in their mobile apps you can see pre-auth transaction. Which other credit card is as good as Citi? sad we gonna lose this gooding. enjoy while it last. |

The advantage of Citibank CC is that there is no expiry date for the points. This way card holders can accumulate enough points to redeem some big ticket items.

QUOTE(tatabun @ Apr 15 2021, 10:25 PM) In Malaysia, where Citi has been in for more than six decades, Citi Malaysia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Usman Ahmed assured that the move will not dilute the group's long-term commitment to the country or the Asia Pacific region. Citi has 10 branches in Malaysia — six in the Klang Valley, with one each in Johor and Melaka, and two in Penang, according to its website. window dressing statement“With this strategic repositioning, we will be able to further invest our resources in significantly growing our institutional business in Malaysia, which spans across corporate and investment banking, commercial banking, markets (including equity brokerage) and treasury and trade solutions. |

Guess effect of trade war. Many countries in the list are China friendly. For India likely because India too protective like Malaysia, for Aussie, Aussie has huge debts.

OMG if citi cc kaput, what a waste. So far, me only citi phone CS can be trusted. They do follow up and not the tai-chi type. Online Web also good.
In fact I kept all other cc in drawer, and only use citi cc. |

QUOTE(James1983 @ Apr 16 2021, 12:24 PM) I think no.2 most likely, it will pass to another bank (depending on which bank decides to take over the loan book, any outstanding amount will be owed to the other bank) if no banks wanna take the account then how haha But your CC reward points, unlikely to move over. |
