I used Sika 107 for my toilet waterproofing.
At least 2 coats. 3 coats will be better.
Apply the waterproofing to around 3 ft from the floor.
Shower area apply to 6 ft from the floor.

Was recommended to do epoxy coating as a cheapest and no hacking solution previously. You may explore it

so.....you plan to hack all the tiles.

then water proof

then cement

then tile back up?

then have a place to discard all the broken tiles

normal office workers dont have the endurance nor strength to do hard labor work.

good luck.

I used epoxy + glass flake combo.
Very easy to diy.
You have choice to maintain color of your existing floor tile by using clear epoxy.
Or change the color completely to your choice.
Did the coating for 3 layers and still good until now for more than 8 years already.
Spent around 1K total for 2 bathrooms (decent size bathroom)
Another pro is that it took total around 48 hours to fully cured for the whole 3 coatings.

Epoxy is ok only if its leaking thru the tiles.
If other leak root cause (from pipe in wall) it will not resolve the issue.

To do it nicely, better to hire someone familiar doing it or has done it or has seen it done by professional before to learn their tricks of doing it.
But for a nstural handyman, a youtube learning can also help to build confidence for DIY project.
Not realy high specs, a standard specs I suppose in order to create anti slip feel of the surface. The flakes will make the texture a bit rougher once you spread over the epoxy after 2 layer.
3rd layer is just to make the glass flake covered properly.

Glass flakes are sold separately.
You can buy from lazada or shoppee.
I bought from AE Multicoat (company).
The flake is spread over the epoxy coating while curing and evenly spread using brush to ensure smooth spread.
Dont hesitate to use generously as the texture is really worth it.
I do not have picture of it since it was 8 years back.
Anyway, try google it and you will find some good examples.

The proper way is to do the below;

1) Solid waterproof membrane across all and up the wall edge (or you can a shower base)
2) Liquid waterproof membrane to seal the wall before cementing tiles/grout
3) PU waterproof sealant to seal joints and so on, Sika is pretty good for this

For bathroom waterproofing in condos, is it really necessary to do a water ponding test and to go below (neighbour's place) to ask whether he has any damp spots on his ceiling? Is this standard procedure?

after see this am motivated to restore all my baths . nod.gif as they look dull now.

just to clarify
1. filler is to patch up the holes ,,..etc..

then clean up the bath surfaces

2. Apply nippon tile primer . 1 coat

3. Apply nippon EA4 / choice of color . 2 to 3 coats .

done.

is this the correct process. ?

Any thing else i miss or can add for better finish ?

Any advise from the experts.. open to hear your experiences.. .
thanks

About the final epoxy finish .. will it be slippery with this when the floor is wet.

Two methods as other have said,

1st menthod well documented here; is to paint epoxy on the floor/walls

2nd is hacking. We found out our toilets in 2nd floor were leaking. Went with hacking. Cost like 3k+
Had to drive to Melaka for the tiles as the old ones were shattered in the process.

We did this because we really dislike the look/feel of epoxy especially in the bathroom. Feels like a hospital and kinda too slippery. The tiles we choose have a rough surface.

No budget, go diy. But there's probably clear epoxy if you want to preserve the look of your old tiles, just the surface will be different though

wow so nice. my toilet also leaking. got water stain at house below.( apartment)
ask contractor. he said should be floor since the pipe is not under the floor.
and the hole for water trap is higher than floor.( so might need hack the floor so its will be lower nicely) so water get stuck. endup floor leaking and water go under.

solution; need hack the tiles and put waterproofing and tiles it again.

can i use this epoxy as well? because when i ask them to use epoxy, he said will not last longer also.

above is a toilet floor ?

then you also need to seal the tiles grout and the floor water pipe outlet top /sides.. water can leak off here.

below can do that .

that pipe is uncut . from top / floor level to the angle join below .

there is no gasket/ seal in between .

my guess .. that leak is a floor leak . the grout between the pipe and toilet floor .or immediate surround ..there is a square plastic top .

there is no way to check this .
so just apply the sealant at all the grout and area around the pipe at the floor .

i need to do water proofing for my toilet.

Would want to gather some idea how can I DIY it and estimate a budget.

Water proofing expert welcome to give some advise. terima kasih.  rclxm9.gif

Update:

Photo taken by unit below. Pipe leaking or floor?

The water proofing is supposedly done above floor where water leak from. Not your floor OR trying to do sohai method of waterproofing your ceiling from bottom.

Ok. then all you need to do just hack all the tiles, water proof it then with importance to drainage outlet.

the rest just peanut.

Also I just noticed the yellow pipe flange, that suppose be at your unit not below the slab. shocking.gif

i guess i will try seal the grout first. if really not working, then no choice but to proceed with hacking / epoxy.

yellow pipe flange is at my unit. correct.

All waterproofing must do from the top.

If it is the roof tile, then do it on top of the roof tile. If it is a concrete slab, it must do on top of the slab.

For DYI cement, you can purchase premix water proof cement to fill the gap. Clean the gap. Then pour dry cement powder into the gap, use a brush to compact it as much as you can, remove the excess powder and hair spray water to wet the powder.

roger that. so i need to apply sealant to close the gap between floor n the pipe / floor trap. gonna to try this first.  icon_rolleyes.gif
you need a small brush to apply the sika sealant. if dont have .. an old tooth brush that have a sharper front edge is fine.
apply to every grout within 3 feet diameter, the cement joint s around the square plastic top surrounding the pipe. and every cement/ joint you see.
plus the wall/ floor edge surrounding the outlet.

wait to dry in 1 hour ... reapply the second coat . i am sure this will fix the problem. i had similar case.

if still leak ...do again... and apply to the whole toilet floor grout areas and all the wall/ floor edges.

i have even seen water leak out of the concrete beam in the room next to the toilet . due to a toilet floor leak.

after 6 months / or when necessary you need to apply again to restore the water proof.
that 1 liter bottle can last many years nod.gif
do feedback the results. nod.gif

Just don't wash it with harsh chems/gosok to hard after this. Probably won't last as long as epoxy

2 weeks ago i bought 5L Nippon e4 epoxy paint , tile primer , roller brush, paint pan , silica sand . total cost 306 RM . shopee seller.
DIY my 3 toilet . and kitchen table top and back wash area.
Am pleased with the result .

easy to clean the toilet now. just fast mop dry thumbsup.gif
new clean bright look .

is a better cheaper solution for water proof your toilet and will last 10 year or more compared to hacking.
highly recommend way to waterproof your toilet water leak issues due to old age or poor built.

guys, my toilet hv same issue. leaking in some area and causing my below unit neighbor to bising2 due to water leaking.
i suspect the leaking due to old ages, the tiles at the edge of the corner got some free gaps, which cause the water leak thru there. and also my toilet floor is not totally flat. got some area which cause water to flood lil bit.

using epoxy flakes for toilet, should solve this issue ?

It will solve the water leakage but probably not the water ponding issue.

ys am certain epoxy coat will solve your water leak problem .

the epoxy coat is heavy duty and waterproof and will seal all small gaps .
in short you are building a layer of epoxy over the surface .

i not sure how to solve your flat/level issue .
but i will try this
mark that area out and apply a thicker layer of epoxy over it.

you need at least 2 coats .
allow first coat to dry/cure in 24 hours before recoat.

if just the outlet,.. no need to waterproof the whole floor,..

outlet is very common leakage,.. just open the trap,.. and water proof the side cement,..

i have been using my toilet for a week . ( after 1st coat/ was busy to do the 2nd coat, plus i want the coat to cure longer) seems OK .
i did not feel the slip. taking normal short steps around.
maybe my feet bottom is like sandpaper nod.gif

since i did buy the silica sand .. i did it with the second/last coat.

flakes too will make it non slip .

thanks. i also thinking the say way. mybe thicker layer will solve floor level not flat and water ponding issue. just need careful to make sure the floor is slight curve to the water hole, so the water easily drain.
then need to ask those epoxy guys if they hv done this before. cant do it myself because got tenant.

Silica sand for what ya bro? The Nippon epoxy just paint over the tiles? Is it clear paint? But as I understand, hacking and waterproofing will last even longer, provided the contractor does it the right way and not skimping here and there. lol. Usually waterproofing on concrete slab can last more than 20 years, i suppose. lol. laugh.gif

silica for non skid.

https://shopee.com.my/2kg-Nippon-Floor-Coat...0096.7063850527

first you paint tile primer
next epoxy ... ys ,, just paint use a roller . its color ed . you chose your color .
i am sure this will last more than 10 years.. or more . in 10 years if it leaks again just put a few more coats ...get fresh new look
you are puttin a heavy duty water proof layer. over the tiles and the sides...
it will never crack .

and so easy to DIY .

This is near the door. Shower is about 1.5m away from this point. The part of the wall that is facing the shower looks ok.

so.....you plan to hack all the tiles.

then water proof

then cement

then tile back up?

then have a place to discard all the broken tiles

normal office workers dont have the endurance nor strength to do hard labor work.

good luck.
