Not his fault. The employer should have checked his background first. Also should give him some basic training. Anyway if any customer asks for such a thing, if you want to be nice you can point him to anything below RM10,000. If you want to be nasty you can show him the above RM10,000 stuff and tell him some amateurs also buy this stuff, while pros also sometimes go for less than RM10K gear.

The customer was looking for a semi-pro camera. But, what defines semi-pro? Sometimes, the definition could be very subjective, , the customer and the salesperson may have different level of understanding about which is semi-pro and which is not.
I've never come across the term 'semi-pro' for normal digital camera, but there are such thing as prosumer camera. Semi-pro most probably refers to DSLR, as there are entry/amature level DSLR, semi-professional and professional. |

QUOTE(Gadget_Freak @ Aug 30 2007, 04:20 PM) Digital cameras classified as Spot on dude but again the whole area of definition of semi-pro could mean a lot of things. - compact camera - eg. Canon A400, etc.. - prosumer - Fuji S6500fd, Canon S5, etc.. - DSLR a) entry - Canon 350d, Nikon D40, etc.. b) semi-pro - Nikon D200, Canon 30d, etc.. c) pro - Nikon D2x, Canon 1d, etc.. Correct me if wrong Dear TS, In truth a professional makes money or his/her career out of photography and they can still use a Canon 350D or Nikon D40 just that as well. Important things to understand about cameras should be to look at the market ranges of cameras, which camera is meant for which market (as stated by Gadget_Freak above). Whether the camera is meant as an entry level, P&S (point and shoot), prosumer cameras (cameras with more functions and allow more user controls) and of course Digital SLR. In each category you can break it down even further. Consumer range - Compact and slim cameras - High megapixel (marketing teams use this as a way to attract customers) - High optical zoom - Image Stabilizer Do a Google as I am quite tired of writing more here hehe |

QUOTE(Namgor2006 @ Aug 30 2007, 02:47 PM) Hi, i just joined as sales assistant related to seel Camera (digital mostly) last few weeks... Let me tell you my experience : When a customer ask for a 'semi-pro' digicam, don't take him for a fool by showing him a Canon Powershot or IXUS series, show him a EOS series instead, like a 30D or 400D for starters (I am sure you get more commission selling those than a Powershot for goodness' sake!) If he refuses and say it's difficult to use then deny everything and show him how EASY it is to operate the EOS and give him your best offer for the camera. People like this are usually potential EOS owners but lack SLR knowledge, so it's YOUR job to teach him how to use the camera and make his Ringgit worth.A customer came & ask for semi-pro camera, i straight away blur & don't know what is that...... could someone kind hearted show me some samples of Semi Pro camera??? Thanks. Cheh! I am teaching you how to sell a Canon camera already |

Brainwashing him so early and brain washing people to use Canon at the very source. I guess your philosophy is that if the people can't believe you, they might believe the salesmen right? hahahaha

The part I hate most is this : The customer walks in and SPECIFICALLY asked for a Nikon camera with so-and-so budget. When I showed him a (then) Nikon D50 he starts his bla bla bla with Sony, Canon and Olympus DSLR like he's got the cash to buy everything on my shelf, so ... you know very well he's gonna walk out the shop with a Nikon in his hand but he is just wasting your time with all his "I know cameras more than you" lecture. My strategy was this : Tell him SOMETHING that the camera he specifically asked for has that the REST doesn't, in this case it was Nikon's D-Lighting Technology, which I am sure Canon or Sony, etc. do not adopt. 10 - 20 minutes down the line and he is your happy paying customer, knowing very well he bought a UNIQUE camera compared to the rest. These kinda people wants to be unique, he knows what he want so he went asking here and there, ended up all confused before he entered your shop. It's YOUR job to straigthen him but first you must know your cameras well. What he wanted was a Nikon camera, the rest are just hear-say ...

I am teaching you how to sell a Canon camera already for my first time, i don't expect i can sell a camera for a day.... at least i can make customer satisfied what i tell them about camera. as i think, mostly the customer come when they have do the research before so they have a target already, & only come to compare the prices yea, there might be exception when a noob coming to ask then walk away without buying anything Added on August 31, 2007, 2:07 pm QUOTE(ac98 @ Aug 31 2007, 12:42 AM) The part I hate most is this : The customer walks in and SPECIFICALLY asked for a Nikon camera with so-and-so budget. It falls between consumer DSLR cameras like the Nikon D40 and D80, and high-end professional models like the Nikon D2Hs and D2Xs. It is often used as a backup body to supplement the high-end professional line of cameras because of its similar feature set and layout. Upon its introduction, it was intended to fill the void in the Nikon line-up left by the discontinuation of the Nikon D100. This post has been edited by tongyam: Aug 31 2007, 03:00 PM |
