Anyone wonder how public university in malaysia have high ranking as compare to other oversea famous university? Is it really that case? For example base on qs world university ranking, University of malaya ranked 59 is somehow higher than famous University like Brown University, University of Wisconsin Madison, university of Warwick, UT Austin, NTU (Taiwan) and Uwashington. I wonder is it true and should we trust them? Feel free to give your opinion.

Different publication ranks based on different criteria thats all

The most important element is the student. If the student is willing to learn and has good attitude and humility, any decent university will do.

We should be happy that Malaysian university is ranked well.

Life is not about your qualifications

University of Malaya were once very reputable until politicians start messing around with education. Once more famous than Singapore university.

Employers only care about the output / result, cannot achieve will still fire, soft skill much more important than CGPA or uni ranking.

Example one of our leaders who went to UK famous universities, would you give high rating on the pandemic handling?

It's a matter of methodology.

I could come up with a methodology placing Malaysia universities in the top 10.

I have noticed some keep publishing the same content/results. Nothing new. It is just quantity over quality. Just a waste of government funds.

Last time I applied for UPU, I saw some of my friends willing to take strange courses just to get into Malaysian research universities. This is the most amusing approach I've ever seen. I'm not sure why people are so obsessed with rankings. I see no problem with attending a low-ranking university as long as MQA accredits the course. After all, they squandered their futures to be proud of their studies at prestigious universities. They do something unrelated to their degree after graduating. If they are interested in the degree, they should study until they obtain a Ph.D. before entering academia. That will make more sense.

After all, going to IPTA serves one useful purpose: saving money. Going to a high-ranking IPTA makes sense only if you do well in Pre-U. Otherwise, choose a course rather than a university.

QUOTE
Mostly relevant for science, engineering, business and technology subjects, this factor is increasingly becoming a priority for universities and students. It indicates the commercial impact of an institution’s research, which is itself a reflection of the industrial value of the research.

The industry income indicator is of fundamental importance if you prioritise the real-world application of the science and technology research.

and only 2.5% jer.... not the reason why Malaysia failed

I see. At least it impacts 2.5% of the ranking. Ranking can also be affected by this 2.5% if other unis have the same points in other criteria.

Still, looks like Times seems more reliable.

Well to be fair... it doesn't mean nothing...

a uni is technically better if it is able to show commercial impact of an institution’s research..

otherwise.. their research is all theoretical and contributes ZERO value...
