QUOTE(MR_alien @ Apr 6 2021, 09:10 AM) Exactly, with a 2 year-old car, you can shave off ~15% on the price due to depreciation. Just need to do a bit of due diligence (bring a mechanic to inspect it, etc). |

Agreed. Most people should be driving <10k 2nd hand cars but hey, biar papa asal gaya.
Buy new car for safety is hypocritical when you feed your body shit. You know what you can change when it's broken? Your car. You know what you can't? Your body. Don't drive like an asshole, fit good tyres and make sure your brakes and rest of the car is well taken care of. You don't need a brand new car. You're lying to yourself to find an excuse to spoil yourself. This post has been edited by whyamiblack: Apr 6 2021, 12:29 PM |

It's right. You should spend no more than 10-15% of your salary in car.
8K salary means you only have 800 to 1.2K for car. MyVi loan is about RM700 a month, so plus insurance, service, roadtax, petrol and general maintenance, that would comes to 1.2K a month. Anything more, you are heading to trouble. |

Agreed. U must factor in maintenance, insurance and roadtax too. Some people also factor in emergencies.
Once u do this, zero worries because the funds already allocated. |

QUOTE(acbc @ Apr 6 2021, 12:34 PM) Agreed. U must factor in maintenance, insurance and roadtax too. Some people also factor in emergencies. Simple calculationOnce u do this, zero worries because the funds already allocated. Monthly bank loan Monthly petrol (estimate) Yearly roadtax (divide 12 months) Yearly insurance (divide 12 months) Maintenance (get estimate and divide by monthly) Tyre cost plus alignment and balancing (typical last 3 years, so get the estimated cost divide by 36 months) Battery cost (typical last 2 years, so get estimated cost divide by 24 months) Emergency fund (roughly = 3 to 5 months bank loan amount divide by 60 months) So add those monthly cost up, it should come up to 10 to 15% of your salary. And you are set for anything. acbc liked this post
