Hi all,

I just bought a condo soho unit and will only get the key by end of this year. I already started planning for the renovation staffs. I would like to ask normally for a condo, can I redirect the kitchen hood duct and extract the kitchen air when cooking to the balcony?

Similar to toilet, since the toilet does not have any windows, can I also redirect the exhaust fan duct to the balcony to reduce the humidity in the toilet?

Thanks.

Theoretically it is possible but the routing of your exhaust hose need to ensure it can pass by non-structural walls as you cannot blow up a 6" hole in structural wall aka RC wall.

Generally you can hack non structural "brickwall" but if there is an existing window available at your unit you can use it to mount a window fan (that standard porthole 6" KDK).

Thank you for the reassurance. Does that rule apply to all condominiums generally when it comes to renovation? Or does it really have to depend on the management/JMB? If enclosing the yard* is possible, I was wondering if we are allowed to run the pipes all the way to the exterior part of the infrastructure (of the condominium)? That would mean having a ducting cap sticking out of the building?

*Installing windows on top of the half wall in the yard area to convert the space 100% indoor.

Exhaust vent holes like a DVD-ROM size are easier to get approval as compared to more drastic hacking ie. total removal of walls (e.g. https://www.renonation.sg/a-couples-decisio...ation-part-3-1/ )

You should get consent from JMB since hacking or drilling anything is still a noisemaking activity.

Whether enclosing with sliding windows are permitted also a facade-changing decision, in my rumaweep sliding windows are allowed.
Ducting cap or glass-mounted fans ON the fixed window panes are usually a non-issue; however sticking out the vent like a pool noodle may not be alllowed.
