Don't you guys think that the female dog looks pitiful with all the fur shaved? Then her skin like got wounds.... and the pups? Selling for RM23000? Wah.... so high price? Look at the cage tray, the stains.... pee and poo all there....

Eee.....hopefully the mother doesn't have the mange problem, otherwise the puppies sure kena lo.....

This picture did tell us that the breeder doesn't care much about his/her dog's well being.

I brought Moonie to the vet today as she has been coughing for a few days now. The vet said it could be the early signs of distemper, which can be fatal in 2 months.

I was told to:
1. keep her warm, comfortable and happy
2. caged rest - means dont let her run around cause is bad for the lungs
3. no perfume, smoking, shelltox where she sleep
4. feed her brands essence of chicken for 1ml per day to stop the coughing

Now, I feel sad, 2 months I will know what is going to happen to this poor pup. Money aside, I feel guilty thinking I may be the cause of it since she did not cough during the first day we brought her home but it was because when I washed her (she stepped all over her poo), she started coughing.

I hope it's not something serious. Everything is left to be seen in a few weeks. Now lost mood.
*
It's better to get a second opinion from another vet....

Whoopy also suffered kennel cough when I brought her home 2nd day from the petshop, she had fever and cough, luckily the vet was able to heal her. She fully recovered after under 1 week+ medication.

My sister's Lhasa Apso which recently passed away on Oct 10 at 17 years old. Very long lived dog.

This was Silkin's AKC cert. She was a pure white Lhasa Apso, looks very much like a Maltese. Does Maltese live that long too?

Why cant i be 20yrs old only? My son is going to be 3yrs old in 2 weeks+ time. And i felt proud about it. Its a successful family matter. U sounds so surprise, wats so big deal about it? Don't cha sound like someone who's still lock up in the mind of erm.. erm.. old thinkings? Haven u seen this world?

Well, im considered lucky. I had alot of supports and my husband is not those play play still studying kinda kid.. I know not all who's in this situation were as lucky as me.

Having a family earlier is also not that bad, i stepped into mother-hood earlier then u.. Its an acheivement to me.. I dunwan to giv birth any days later.. becoz when u get older, and when u gave birth, its gona be hard. Im still flexible And im young now, i can get back to shape more better then anyone older. Im still mentally and physically fit.
Get back to topic else mod will scold me again.  laugh.gif

Yaya, slikin look so much like a maltese.

Don't get me wrong..don't get offended, I'm a straight forward person. I'm just surprised, thought you were joking, you do sound mature enough, I never expected to be real. I'm not looking down on you or anything... notworthy.gif

You're right! Good also to start a family at young age also if you have a good mature spouse & family support. Just like one of my colleague, she upkeeps herself very well at the age of 42 and her son is 20, she joins her son go clubbing too and in the meantime keep an eye on him.

Not many Lhasa Apso in Malaysia, this breed not very popular partly because the dog character is very arrogant and not friendly towards other dogs.

QUOTE(Pennywise @ Oct 23 2007, 04:50 PM)
I brought Moonie to Dr. Khor at Mayo, Taipan today.

The vet confirmed that it is not mange. I am glad. The vet said Moonie's skin is not flaky or perhaps the mange jab that my Klang vet gave her helps. He took stool sample to check if there's worm in her body. I was told that she is too young to get Heartworm so no worries about that.

He took a blood sample from Moonie's ear-tip and put it under the microscope. He said that Moonie's white blood cells are high, it's a sign to show that the body is countering the infection that's causing the coughing. These white blood cells are the so called army in the body fighting the infection that's causing her cough - it's a positive sign.

Followed on, we talked about distemper. The jab that my Klang vet gave Moonie was Ivermec that is good enough to cover for most mites, the other mange jab is not available in Malaysia. I asked if there are any test we could do to verify if she is having distemper and he said yes and would cost me RM60. I said fine, let's do it - for the peace of mind. So he did.

Dr. Khor took out a cotton bud and then he gently pull Moonie's eye lid and put the cotton bud inside. YES INSIDE THE EYELID ALL AROUND UPPER AND LOWER! Then he put inside a test-kit which looks like a pregnancy test-kit. The test came out negative!

In terms of accuracy, it's hard to tell since it could be in its early stage and distemper could affect many parts including the intestine, the heart, the brain, etc but since Moonie has cough so he took samples around the respiratory area, nose, eyes, mouth...

I will send her there to confirm again the next Saturday - just to be sure its not distemper lurking in her system.

When I drove home, I am glad. Casper sit in front passenger sit while I drive. My sister sit behind and Moonie is asleep next to her. Then I sayang Casper and touched him, suddenly I felt something so I asked my sister to help me check what's on Casper... a TICK! It's the biggest damn tick I have ever seen and I pulled it out, took a tissue and squeeze it to death. The tick was SO FULL that it is big and round and 'like dead' but I know it's not, so I squeeze till it burst and throw it out the window.

Then, I went to Pet Family in Klang to get a bottle of Frontline, shower Casper at home nicely. Mop the whole floor, wash the cage, spray Frontline on Casper. Use wet warm cloth to rub Moonie, wash her cage too and finally I'm done.

It's the first time I encounter a tick on Casper! One problem gone, another one start... Haihhh but I'm happie to know that Moonie is healthy now and her life is not in danger.
*
Well...glad to hear that your Moonie is fine and healthy. What a relief, isn't it?

Well...we still can see them selling in Malaysia, like:

Doberman
Rottweiler
Bulls Mastiff
Pit Bull
American Staffordshire Pit Bull
Akita
Fila Braziliero
Tosa

I did ask one back-yard breeder who sell Pit Bull, isn't this breed is ban, he told me the govt. dept knows nothing about the dog's look, so they just declare them as boxer or whatever mongrel. I saw him chain the pit bull with a 3" thick metal collar and chain, so scared to walk pass the dog.

yeah thanks, my house dog always got tick and now the solution is buy frontline( i guess) for them to prevent tick. But is really expensive, is about rm40 per dog per month and my house got 4 dog... sigh... anway, looking forward to know your secret tips....
*
Just to share my secret with you. You can buy this shampoo "AniVision Anti-Tick Herbal Shampoo" for animals. I used this and the ticks die. When I first brought back Coco & Cheezel one month+ ago, they were full of fleas. I bought 1L was around RM18 and bath all 4 dogs every 4 days and now still left 1/2 bottle. It smell nice and gentle towards skin, easy to use too.

I don't sell this shampoo, but promote this to you all, because I found it really good. I even use this shampoo to bath my guinea pigs to prevent lice and mites.

Not sure you can find this shampoo elsewhere. But I bought it from a petshop nearby Cheras Leisure Mall.

I had stopped using it regularly now. Just one month once for preventive measure.

Haha... thanks!! It worries me if it becomes long term but if for a while, then ok la. I dont know why submit to my gf also because she seldom see her. Moonie spends most of the time with us at home. When she first came, she never meet my gf also. Maybe my gf got that "burning aura" that no humans can see... Hahaha...

Bad news for you, some dogs may not outgrown this. I had a dog had this kind of problem, even reach adulthood also the same. This kind of behavioral problem normally exist when the breed was poorly bred. So choosing a reputable and reliable breeder is the key.

LOL.. the red one still okay, meaning she likes the green one lah, play more often  tongue.gif

My babies' toys are everywhere! Can say which corner they go, will have their toys to accompany them. Even if I pick up all and put at one place, after awhile you will see the toys everywhere again... maybe they just want to play wherever they go, and will never keep back those toys!!

I wonder if there is a way to teach them to keep their toys in one place after they play?  laugh.gif
*
I know there is one american cocker breeder, he shared with me that his dogs will know how to tidy up all their toys when he got angry telling them that he is fed up with their toys everywhere. Cool huh? smile.gif

How I wish my dogs could do that as well. But my dogs like to mess up the house with all their toys everywhere, even though we had tidied up their toys and stacked up at one place. flex.gif

Another thing I'd like to ask is dog MKA cert.

Moonie borned on 15th August 2007. I bought her home on ~15th October 2007. Today, I called to ask the breeder (a family friend) and he said the MKA cert not ready, told me it possibly may take up another 1 and 1/2 months...

Does it usually take so long?
*
Generally it takes 4-6 months for you to get your puppy MKA cert depending on your breeder when he/she submit the full documentation and also depend on MKA office workload and efficiency.

You can also call up MKA office to check when the cert will be ready by giving your breeder's name & microchip #.

QUOTE(Pennywise @ Dec 26 2007, 12:29 AM)
Right now, Casper and Moonie live in separate cages at my living room. Because CNY is coming, I had to think of an alternative place to put them. Not nice for guest to walk into the living room with two dog cages!!

I am planning to put them near the toilet downstairs, barricaded with play-pen - three piece straight and one piece as a blocker. I will leave them barricaded there during the day when no one is at home. This way, they have easy access to the toilet. They will be living together soon (~1st Jan) as Moonie has just completed her last vaccination last Sat.

My worries are:
1. Casper seldom drink water. Moonie favorite drink is water. If I barricade them there, will they fight over water?

2. Even though the barricaded area is fairly small and they have access to the toilet which is quite big, what I worry the most is that one pee / potty, another one step and come out stepping all over the area.

3. Anyone has two dogs who live near the toilet? How's the experience?

4. Any last words of wisdom for me? This is my first time having two dogs living together, worry it can be troublesome as now they live in separate cages even though they get along really well.
*
Well..even car porch so big, my previous GSD alone also can step on its own pee & poo. It depends on each individual dog's personality. Some dogs are very particular about cleanliness, will avoid stepping on its own pee & poo (like my Whoopy, she will make sure her legs won't touch her own pee). Even I wash the floor, my dogs would quickly jump up on the bench and sit. Some dogs very messy, tak kisah cleanliness. So you have to try it out to know whether your dogs would step on each other's pee/poo or not.

My beagle Whoopy used to pee & poo inside the toilet. But I don't encourage my ACS to do the same, as their fur are long, and our toilet is wet most of the time, if they go inside the toilet, then their paw fur would be wet, very messy.

I usually put my dogs inside separate cages when I go out, because like this each one could have a peaceful rest inside the cage, more ample space to stretch. I only put 2 inside a cage when I go out for a short while.

Just wanna check with you guys... If we removed our doggies cage, will they be upset? Like lately, I barricade both my dogs to sleep in the kitchen floor and since then Casper has been upset. Moonie is OK cause she's still young I think.
*
Yes... for my Whoopy, she would be upset if her favourite place/spot had changed. She would cry searching for it. My other dogs would bark non-stop if I had changed their cage positioning.

hey pennywise, your westies are happy staying behind the "playpen fencing"? will they push it out or down?  i am thinking of getting it for my Westies.

Playpen fencing doesn't work for my adult dogs. They will push or drag it until collapse and then escape. I guess playpen is more suitable for small breed dogs or puppies. Medium size dogs are quite strong actually.

How she gets the injury? Knocked down by the car or jump down from high table?

I heard there are several Malaysian imported in the pet wheel chair which cost only RM1k+, this would save a lot of pets being put down unnecessarily.

Hohoho... thanks for sharing that experience. Right now, Moonie's main characteristic is wanting to sleep. Always wanting to sleep, betul betul pemalas... So if she is on heat, I possibly would not know also.
Now, this is an informative post. Thanks as always, Hun. Where do you think I can find a secured heat pants? I want to be safe than sorry.
*
Since you intend to breed your dog in future. You better invest some breeding books and do some reading and research properly. Asking forumer sometimes may not give you enough full details on how and when your dog is fertile. Every dog is different, so as their heat & fertile cycle.

Better don't bring your dog out even there is no more blood stain for at least 2 more weeks. If you bring your dog out during on heat time, later at night some stray dogs will come to your house and pee onto your auto gate or hang around your house area.

Fuhhhh... like Wong Fei Hong that time but then later stick also throw away. If any stray attack Moonie, only death awaits it. Hohohohoho.... Need to buy chastity belt liao.

Anyone knows anywhere I can find a secured heat pants?
*
Even heat pants or pampers cannot be secured enough. Once you meet an experience male dog, gone case, the pant will be torn or dropped. So it is better to separate your male and female dog when you are not around.

Get an exercise trackmill for your dog to run. This will sure drain their energy kao-kao and won't go bonkers.
