Mazda CX8 looks more 'atas', especially the high spec Nappa Leather
Toyota Fortuner is sound atas, but interior a little let down. The 2021 I think is still good price wise.

Which one to choose based on fuel consumption, Comfort (put baby car seat) for family if budget is about there for these two cars?

Test drove D segment.
Mazda 6 back no good for family 175cm above (hit the top), driving mechanics is good, feels atas without paying BMW, Mercedes pricing.
Camry, comfort no need to say, but engine I think wait for Dynamic Force (if UMW bring in - since rumor at Q2 will release new D segment)
Passat and Arteon out of the way - because of maintenance and reliability.

Ur mind like me....and I am thinking the same option now 😅😅

Never drive or ride with fortuner....some said too bumpy due to body on frame. If the ride is good I can consider that...downside is the head unit looks really aftermarket.

CX8 if flagship only 6 seater... and headunit quite small

The fortuner is quite a capable 4wd vehicle.
If you like going to the beach and driving over the sandbank to a picnic spot away from others
Or going to a waterfall and driving all the way next to the water edge

Or if you like driving on dirt road to a campsite far away from civilization.
Sure the cx8 cx9 can also take you there. But if you get stuck, the fortuner has a higher chance to get you unstuck.

I still can't get a test drive for the fortuner. Toyota expect me to buy without test driving ah? Go fly kite

Are you looking for Petrol or diesel variant?
Petrol variant for Fortuner can be very bad. It is a 2ton ride.

Go test drive. Bring entire family with you.

Those people that said bumpy are blanket comment from their past experience with body on frame.
I've driven hilux fortuner pajero a lot of pickup truck, suvs and currently living with a truck find that new gen of body on frame is even more comfortable than prev gen sedans and SUV.

Some body on frame truck is even more comfortable than a luxury sedan.

it used diesel (2.2L turbo diesel) .. if you compare against CX8 which used 2.5L petrol NA and Fortuner (assuming you are using petrol ..that is 2.7L NA) - both FC will be shit as well ; might be better if you opt for 2.8L turbo diesel [that variants will reach 200k OTR]

if you plan to carry 5 to 6 adult ..NA engine you have to rev it higher to gain the momentum ..else you feel it very powerless.

exterior wise i no comment la laugh.gif
i am still waiting CX8 to release 2.5L turbo variants..that will be the best combination for its size ..i heard it's coming soon..but dunno when

Tested both.

Fortuna
-cheaper
-better spec
-4wd
- looks like a tank and unrefined
- interior looks lousy
-drive like a Toyota

Mazda
- better look both interior and exterior
- more refined
-better driving experience
- more expensive
-lower spec 2wd
-3 row no aircond

Conclusion.

I would go for mazda.

If 7 seater suv u considering now, should put Santa fe as well.

Test drove the fortuner underpower. I’ll consider if they bring in the 2.8 version like Thailand. My family own 2015 Santa Fe, nice ride and better driving feel. Personally I like that Santa Fe when compared the my mother X5. X5 high speed driving really unstable.

After 8 months of driving a 7 seater SUV, all I can say is these are strictly 5+2 seater vehicles. If regularly need to ferry 7 around get a Vellfire.

The better body on frame SUV is the Ford Everest. Much better comfort and refinement than the Fortuner.

C-segment 7 seater? C-sgment SUVs are best as a 5 seater. Honda got it right with that formula with the CR-V.

versatility, offroad, reliability go fortuner. it's a ute based SUV with body on frame and diff lock. good for towing too

comfort, CX8, presumably

ive test driven fortuner, Everest, Pajero Sport and LDV D90

ride comfort is best in the D90 followed by Pajero Sport and Everest, then only fortuner

I'd recommend pajero sport over both CX8 and fortuner

Not as bumpy as many people say. Its quite comfortable for me. Plus fortuner are using coil spring and not lift spring like the hilux at the rear. It is 4wd suv after all, if u expect it as comfort as camry then wrong. My hilux rogue if compare to pre-facelift, less bumpy but still bumpy than fortuner. After changed to softer absober then feel comfy for the rogue. Fortuner u no need to change anything, its comfortable.

If u want quieter engine get fortuner 2.7 petrol but quite high fuel consumption compare to 2.8 diesel.
CX8 also good choice btw.

Always travel with 7 adults +1 baby seat

Just want to say , back row three adult (one 170, two close to 180) still ok from melaka to Penang

Not as bad as most people claim, bumpy don't think so.

If want less headache will get an fortuner, more versatile and rugged, after all it's an 'mpv' so don't expect can take corner and zig zag like your usual sedan /myvis on the road.
If u drive gently u can feel the beauty of this car.lol

Only downside is luggage space not really enough, cannot take in hard case , maybe install a roof rack for longer distnce travel

CX-8 driver syok but passengers pening kepala after a test drive trip. Goyang macam ship. Suspension too hard, drive slow pening kepala, drive fast semua passenger will muntah.

Fortuner no test drive car, so no comment at the moment.

VW Tiguan Allspace and Peugeot 5008 can consider as well if you no look at RV and pocket deep enough to maintain conti cars.

2.8L Turbocharged Diesel is a nice choice, horse power is not important in big size fortuner, but the torque 500Nm is quite impressive, for the 2.7L petrol variant is a total junk fuel guzzler and underpowered. Same as Mazda, turbocharged diesel variant is good to go, NA should be 3.5L onward for this sub 2 ton vehicles for good acceleration, otherwise is a pump gas kit fuel guzller even worse than mostly any 3 tons lorry out there.

Even better than Myvi zig zag and corner much better, no problem doing corner over 140km/h, I often doing road trip on Kundasang road during hill climb from Tamparuli to Ranau, but must upgrade the suspension kit, change to better RIM's and Tires, additional stabilisers bars, this simply upgrades costs you another RM35K alone. The acceleration is 2x much better to any sedan comes with 2.0L NA engines, this 1GD-FTV is comes with 204 Hp & 500Nm torque, easily let Myvi eat dust anytime! that is stock engine config comes from factory, simply upgrade aftermarket chip like alpha tech, easily gain 300hp & 800Nm torque. Is another step of beast that need skills & experience to take control.

Who buys cx8 to drive like civic la? Its meant to be family comfort. Cruising speed 110 to 130 on highway but 80 90 on windy roads should be ok

Yes very good choice. No regret. The 2.8 turbodiesel have good fuel consumption also. Pickup from 0-100 very smooth and powerful also. Avoid fortuner 2.7 better. Mazda also good choice, but the 3.5 na i think high fuel consumption also.

Dear Toyota Fortuner experties,

I'm looking for used Fortuner for Off road and on the road usage,
but struggling in between 2.5 (Auto) Diesel and 2.7 (Auto) Petrol

Car foreman advise take diesel, more power full and less fuel consumption.
2.7 user advise petrol good, easy maintain, fuel consumption almost the same.

Any expert here can share your experience ?

Thanks and appreciated.

Which one to choose based on fuel consumption, Comfort (put baby car seat) for family if budget is about there for these two cars?
Depends on what you use the car for.

If on rough roads and for toughness, Fortuner. Otherwise, CX8
