The Nokia 5610 XpressMusic will also be a handset for the music lovers as its name suggests, but unlike the Nokia 5310 it will come in the bar form factor. It will also be based on the Nokia S40 platform and we are expecting at least the same specs as the ones of the Nokia 5310.

3.5mm jack
microSD up to 4GB

EST Price : NTD 10,500

Can't blame them for their "seems-to-be-alike-as-SE" market strategy though tongue.gif

wah the design really not suit a candybar phone
but if Nokia say this is the candybar of 52/5300 why din't they released it on the same time or juz a bit after 52/5300 had been released

Not really the same.. This model lacks of EDGE and 3g while 5610 has it. 5610 is 3.2mp AF while 5310 is 2mp only.

The glorious days of Nokia 6300 being the slimmest Nokia phone are gone. sad.gif Nokia 5310 boasts a thickness of only 9.9 mm compared to Nokia 6300's 11.7mm. Not to mention, the price looks attractive. I'm sure this phone will sell well. smile.gif

I would get this phone instantly, if not for the poor camera on the back, no flash, no AF. In everything else like music, 5310 XM is a fantastic phone though.

Positives:
Slim & Light
Music Buttons
3.5mm headphone jack
can take up to 4gb microSD card

Bad:
Slim phone not good for SMS messaging
It's only really nice if you use it as basic ipod & basic phone
Bad Camera
Battery life not great because slim

conclusion:
if you really want mp3 + phone get this but... you won't have that great battery life & the speaker isn't that great

You better off buying Nokia 6233 + Ipod

love this phone so much after played with it today...
the slimness...
then built quality..
the 3 cool buttons on the side..

if only the UI is as fancy as Walkman phones...this could be the perfect music phone..

just bought this phone last weekend, and well, i'd say its a matter of co-incidence because initially i was aiming for 5300, but that time at that shop the 5300 was out of stock, so they started to recommend other models and i saw this phone.....wow, so slim, and i did like the design a lot, and so, i decided to buy this instead of the kinda bulky 5300....

many had asked why not i add some more money and buy more "canggih" phone...but i'd say, my budget cant really get any more than RM1100, and what i need now is only a phone with

1. MP3 player
2. easy-to-type SMS
3. moderate camera
4. no 3g

well, actually the most important thingy is, i like the design....lol

got myself and my gf this phone last weekend.

would say that i'm pretty satisfied with it overall, and yeah, the sound quality is slightly below expectations. especially the msg tones and alarms. without 3g too, but it's not one of my criteria so doesn't bother me much.

other than that, i think it's a great phone. slim, sleek, elegant. plus, i'm a nokia regular, so the sms style suits me well compared to other brands. tried using sony ericsson for a few months and boy, struggled horribly with text messaging i'd rather make the call, hahaha...

i thought battery life has always been a prob with nokia phones? i dunno, just from my experience from using so many nokia phones all these years, i kinda expected that already, since i'm used to charging it every night...

The ringtone is still ascending although you set ringing?
Then i afraid the chance to get a missed call is very high....Haiz...
I plan to buy this phone la...But the speaker scare me away..
Currently am using Nokia 6300, only have 1 speaker only, so if compared to 5310, which is louder?

did you set your phone's camera capture quality to high? coz its default setting is only normal, co it will be damn lag....although in high will lag too, but its far less significant already

restarts in what sense? like how?

the problem i have with this phone is during a phone call people cant really hear what i say sometimes, even when im calling from home. im pretty sure it has nothing to do with the line signal, because with my last phone i never have this kinda problem.

and sometimes, i cant get to make a phone call. it says, error in connection. i have to restart my phone in order to make the phone call possible.

gosh sometimes it annoys me.

simply, if you want a good music phone, this is IT. its slim, has a dedicated music chip and the screen is great. only downside is the camera, which is really not that good ( no flash, autofocus) . so you are pretty much buying a music phone and nothing more.

i'm using this phone for a month.latest ap price i check is RM765. I bought RM650 (got connection ). its a great budget phone. since i dont care much about about 3g, camera, i just love this phone plus the slimness. the audio sound quality is nice ,with 3.5mm jack and 18hours of music playback, its really worth it.
the ring volume is maybe a bit low compared to some phone.but if u not deaf i think its just ok. so far no restart problem.

This is what i feel about Nokia 5310.
I am using Nokia 5310 since Dec 07.
Yes, the battery life is very good.
I think should be doubled the one for Nokia 6300.
Charge my phone every 3-4 days.
But the camera and speaker alone cause lot of problem.

1)The camera is NOT 2.0MP actually based on some testing on overseas website.
It's just a fake, only 1.3MP actually but Nokia faked it as 2.0MP by editing everything, who knows it's a fake until the website tested it?

2) The speaker volume is really low. Can't even loud enough to let everyone heard that song in a bedroom. But the quality is nice since it is double speaker. But who cares about this? It fails once its volume is low.

3) Earphones quality is nice as claimed by Nokia. They say they put some kind of music chip in that phone. I feel that it's quite satisfying at first. But until i compare it's Bass mode quality with Sony Ericsson W550i's Mega Bass mode with a same song and same earphones (HS-45). Nokia 5310's quality becomes a crap of shit in the test. It don't even have a surrounding effect like W550i's Mega Bass mode does.

So what's good about this Nokia 5310?
And it restart frequently too while you listening to music. What XpressMusic is it?
And did you notice that the "Play/Pause" button won't function while you sending file?
So means you can't Pause the song you are Playing or Play the song.

The most funny bugs created by Nokia nowadays is as below, it occurs at almost every newer S40 platform.
You can't adjust the (am/pm) of alarm time/organiser time/time when you is in 12 hours mode. Have a try.

The only thing i like about it is it's slim and quite cool while showing it to others. tongue.gif
Like Chinese say: "金玉其外,败絮其中"

Added on February 6, 2008, 5:28 pmWell. Nokia plan to be honest at first.
This is the official advertisement.
Look at 00:25.

Sucks la...
Just check, even Nokia 6300 have this problem too...
So confirmed 5310 and 6300 have this problem.
Everytime need to adjust the alarm, need to change to 24 hours mode.
Because i used to am/pm mode.

OMG OMG you guys should just update its firmware version to v5.81 ! rclxm9.gif

One of the most significant changes is the loudspeaker's volume has been increased much! Hmm.. just to convince you guys, compare the volume to SE's w850i now! tongue.gif The equaliser is working very effective too!

As for the restarting problem, i haven't encounter any of these since i bought my phone, but there are people outside saying this problem has also been overcome.

It's a good solid mobile for me now, despite the few glitches at first sweat.gif
Yet the camera is still laggy, but that is not a problem for me la, seldom take pictures with phone-cam also whistling.gif

i hv 5310, been using it since may 2008 but now i switched to SE S500i after using nokia for 7 years since 2001.
just wanna try how SE works.

anyway, i just read regarding 5310 camera mp.
no wonder it's 1.3mp since all my photos are quite blur.
i think i hv to agree with the speakers, it's not that loud but then when i wanna listen to music, i just plug in the earphones.

i hv no problems with 5310 so far except the lagging problem when i switch on the phone.
it takes some time to find the network, loading contacts and when i press any buttons, it will take time.
im using 512mb card and only 100mb used.
compared to my SE S500i (1gb card), it loads faster than my 5310.

btw, my 5310 is AP tongue.gif

Also using an AP 5310, bought it after CNY this year. Apart from couple of reformatting (which is annoying), I'm pretty much satisfied with the phone.

Good audio quality (especially pair up with a decent earphone), it lives up my expectations for this phone.

If I were to change a phone, perhaps I'll go for it's successor 5320 then.

To increase the speaker volume, just update your firmware using NSU.

Right now, with this 7.01 firmware only filled 5.5GB of MP3s, last firmware, 5.81, i filed with 7++ GB MP3s. free a few MB only biggrin.gif
Using 5.81, the phone only detect 3++ GB (near 4GB) from my 8GB MicroSDHC, but still can use nod.gif
After update to 7.01, the phone can detect 7++ GB (near 8GB).
Heard that the phone can also support 16GB, havn't try hmm.gif

No noticeable lag, only lag a bit when u switch on the phone, and when u add new songs/MP3s, especially when u hav 8GB card (with lots of MP3s), need more time to update music library biggrin.gif

The restart problem also gone, until now havn't face that problem anymore. hope the prob gone permanently tongue.gif
but, still, the sound not loud enough for me cry.gif

Current normal price is arnd RM570 (AP). I got problem with typing msges, my hands got to work harder bcoz the keypad is too small. I felt tired after typing several msges.

hey guys, let's make this thread alive! (i hope!)

anyway,
i just got myself a black edition of 5310 xm recently (zitron set, my 1st ever original warranty nokia phone).
actually, this is my 2nd 5310 xm as i had the red/black colour previously.
my red/black 5310 is still ok, it's just that it went thru a couple of "hard times" (dents on original housing, change new housing, lagging, collecting dust in screen etc) so i decided to keep it in the box and buy a new one.
moreover, i find that red/black colour is more towards teenagers (in my opinion).
i'm not a teenager anymore (27 already, sigh) so i looked for "adults-oriented" colour heheh....and i chose black! cool2.gif

as for the current market price, it's around RM550-RM580 for AP set.
i'm not sure about original set though but i think it's around RM700-RM800 (mine is between this range).

my firmware version for black 5310 is 7.01 and red/black is 5.81.
as far as i'm concern, the difference that i noticed is:
- no more lagging when starting the phone (7.01) compared to v5.81
i think others are still the same (sound volume etc).

i've tried a few SE & samsung models since october 2008 (never tried LG & motorola though) and i find that none of those models could be as convenience as my 5310 xm.
i think the downside of 5310 xm is the camera quality.
other than that, it rocks! thumbup.gif

RM600 2nd hand or brand new?

glad u did ur research.
maybe ur fren wanna get some commission from the supplier?

anyway, 1 more thing that i noticed the difference between my old v5.81 (red/black) and my new v7.01 (black) is that 5.81 can't play mp4 video, only can play mp4 audio.

for the volume sound, i think there's no difference between 5.81 and 7.01.
it just sounds the same to me.
i use volume 5/10 and it's good enough for me to hear it.

So, anyone else has updated their firmware to v09.42? How was it? hmm.gif

I don't' mind about the speaker volume when playing MP3 because i prefer using my earphone biggrin.gif
What concern me is the ringtone/SMS tone volume. Not loud enough for me sweat.gif

I duno bout 7.01 but updating from 5.82 to 9.42 really improve in terms of loudspeaker and laggy phone. Notice startup will not be as laggy as 5.82. Loading smooth and fast. Now, thats the imporvement i have been waiting for. rclxms.gif

ya, it is not that loud, unless there is something wrong with my ear.
but i did an experiment. if u place it on top of a table, put it upside down.
the speaker is on the back, so the tone would be much louder, lol!...biggrin.gif

but i dunno the difference actually because i dont have the chance to compare the tone with the previous firware.

mp3 direct absolutely suits me as it is simple, easy to explore and free some more!

just a lil bit but still visible.

but like i said in my previous post, this happen to my AP housing.
i can't remember if there's any foggy screen when i used original housing.

Mine doesn't have such prob nod.gif Using the original housing smile.gif

Why that happen aa? perhaps the AP housing is not "fit" enough to cover the the phone's inner body properly, so fog can form there? hmm.gif
Or it is because of the material used to make that AP housing? hmm.gif

i think the reason is the fitting factor.
AP housing fitting can never be the same as original.
80-90% fit.
i'm not sure if those who hv this foggy screen problem occured to their original or AP housing.

what bout u?
how long hv u been using 5310 xm?

i think the reason is the fitting factor.
AP housing fitting can never be the same as original.
80-90% fit.
i'm not sure if those who hv this foggy screen problem occured to their original or AP housing.

what bout u?
how long hv u been using 5310 xm?
*
I never have that foggy screen smile.gif Still using the original housing. Never change biggrin.gif
Been using mine since 30/4/2008 biggrin.gif
AP set, included 1GB microSD card + crystal case = RM800 sweat.gif With 1 year warranty.

BTW, are you using the latest firmware?
Plan to upgrade mine if it truly can solve the low ringtone volume problem sweat.gif

nope...because apparently my friend who sent it for repair said they only managed to remove just a little bit of the fogginess problem..
so i decide not to service it skali they fool around with my hp and make it worse

the fog appears AROUND the edge of my screen...gives u a mini tunnel vision haha

gee...seems like the housing might be the problem...i'm using AP so...shucks~

anyway i'm already thinking of getting T700 hmm.gif

You mean, the latest firmware really did improve the ringing volume, make it louder? unsure.gif

my ringing tone only got 4 bar also.

i just realized that my housing is a bit loose on the left lower edge, near the * button. i can feel the gap between the upper and lower housing. it doesn't occur to the right edge though.

any of u guys experiencing the same issue?

I used silicon case before but it turn to make my phone "oily" sweat.gif
So now i'm back using my old crystal case. But unfortunately, all 4 snap that hold the case together had broken doh.gif
And now i'm using a rubber band to hold the case together, tie it with my phone sweat.gif
What make things worst is that my screen protector already peel off doh.gif

meaning that the normal play doesnt have the loudness at the end of the tone? maybe there are tweaks for ringtones that you should look into. sorry because im not femiliar with 5310, but it sounds like the phone has 3d tones options maybe?

actually on some nokia phones... tat's the feature...
if u use the tones on the phone it'll respond in a way that its soft first then loudest at the end...
my old nokia 6280(stolen) when i use... normal sms tone its softer for the first beep then slowly becomes louder...
u can try using the accending tone...
i didnt know until my fren told me that:)
for sony and others im not sure

retail price, from 530 - 570 (AP set), ori I'm not sure, around 700 i guess.

music quality thru headphone is excellent.

however, not so loud and clear if u are using the speakers. cannot hear the bass though. could be better if u plug it into a proper external speaker.

nokia phones imo

Great 5mp camera - n82, n95, n95 8gb ( if flash is taken into consideration, n82 wins hands down and gets no. 1 in rank. )

good 5mp camera - n79, n85

great 3mp camera - n93, n93i, n73, n73me, 6500 slide

good 3mp camera - 5610xm

mediocre 3mp camera - 5800xm

bad 3mp camera - e71

yup...this hp is not expensive as there are newer xpressmusic phones like 5800xm.

5800 is good at music and have a larger screen aka touchscreen, though some don't like a touchscreen phone..

it's big bro 5610 has autofocus which is at that time when it was introduced, was quite a surprise for me because it is a music edition phone but has a 3mp camera and also autofocus..like 6500 slide.

at a lower price point, 5310 is a good buy.

i think later xpressmusic phones will have a much better battery life and camera..but i guess by that time other nokia phones will surpass even that.

xpressmusic is meant for music and not camera.. so camera wise, if it sucks, it's okay

i think later xpressmusic phones will have a much better battery life and camera..but i guess by that time other nokia phones will surpass even that.

xpressmusic is meant for music and not camera.. so camera wise, if it sucks, it's okay
*
Yeah. Can't be helped sweat.gif
You can think 5310 as a phone + music player, with an additional function as a camera laugh.gif

yeah.. s40 doesnt suck up a lot of power compared to s60. for people who wants a phone mainly for sms and/or calls s40 phones are the right choice for you.

technically no

but if u look at it this way a higher capacity card means u keep more stuff meanin u play more music, video have more games that will drain down the battery smile.gif

Yeah i do make it general. General means most of S40 phones are better in battery life. (except if the phone and/or it's battery is faulty itself)

S40 doesnt suck up a lot of power compared to S60 but if the phone itself have a low capacity battery then it comes down to that. Battery capacity.

You also need to keep in mind that S40 have different versions that isnt that much different from one another (visually) but has better/lower power consumption in later versions (only on newer s40 phones). If compared with S60v3 fp2, i would dare say that s40 has the upper hand in low battery consuption.

Nokia 5310 uses S40 5th Edition and 6288 is a much older phone laa (it uses a much older s40 version) plus a lot of 6288 has problems concerning battery life and stability. So if you want to compare batt life with 5310 is i suggest you do so with a much newer phone with newer S40 version.

any of these can effect battery life:

1. battery's age
2. firmware updates
3. turn on/off UMTS/DUAL mode or only GSM
4. User's usage
5. Coverage of gsm and 3g

2. firmware - the newest version
3. turn on/off umts - what the heck is this??
4. usage - sms/call only at night. didn't touch hp during working hours (daytime).
5. coverage - don't have 3g.

yeah i know what u mean. i bought 2 crystal casings for my 5610 and it breaks in about a month or so. a waste of money because it always cracks on the bottom corners.

so i decided to buy a soft cloth casing, like socks for your feet la, and need to take out when want to use the phone. then i bought myself a side belt casing.

dont buy a silicone casing, it will get loose in time and collect a LOT of dust..

it is kinda weird, because other models which are older than 5310 still in the market. but 5310 is really hard to find, except in certain shops.

last time i went to kajang to survey the price, it is not there already. same thing also happened in mid valley.

in fact, most of the online towkey here in garage sales also admit they can't find anymore stocks for 5310. hurmmm...

i think that nokia has stopped production of 5310 and also because there very little stock of it in Malaysia and/or a lot of people buy it which makes it rare.

bro, you do the right thing buying a new battery.
battery 'kembang' can explode at any moment right to your ear when u're on the phone. sweat.gif

but i think overcharge is not the cause.
it is probably the chemical inside the batt that has gone wrong, maybe leaking or short circuit.

i wonder how long u've used that battery?

If not because the casing's battery cover cannot be 'pasang', due to the 'kembang' battery, i think i will still use that battery  sweat.gif

Actually, i only noticed the battery 'kembang' just a few days ago. When it get bigger and causing the battery cover cannot be close properly sweat.gif
Before that, yeah. I did noticed the inaccurate batt power level. When someone called, suddenly the batt become empty and the phone turn off.
But when i switch it on back, the batt is still full doh.gif

maybe u can glue it back but it wont have the same feeling when u use it like it was before.

i think don_naza is correct, and u should change the whole casing

there's numerous kinds of casing out there, grade AAA, AP set casing, ori casing etc..

you need to find out in trade zone. and ask whether it is ori or not and what tools(special screw drivers) are needed if you want to assemble it yourself.

just to update the foggy screen problem.
it's been 3 months since im using my black 5310 XM (original, not AP).
in my previous posts, i said that the foggy screen problem occured to my old red 5310 XM (AP casing, AP phone).
but now im using original black 5310 XM and yeap, the foggy screen is there (not changing any casing, never dropped, no hard/soft cover).

so i guess the foggy problem is really a problem for 5310 XM?

I have a nokia 5310 and I just use bluetooth to transfer files. That's a perfect alternative if you have bluetooth on there.

Availability : 4th Q 2007

Positives:
Slim & Light
Music Buttons
3.5mm headphone jack
can take up to 4gb microSD card

Bad:
Slim phone not good for SMS messaging
It's only really nice if you use it as basic ipod & basic phone
Bad Camera
Battery life not great because slim

conclusion:
if you really want mp3 + phone get this but... you won't have that great battery life & the speaker isn't that great

You better off buying Nokia 6233 + Ipod
