Hi all, I paying for 300mbps but when I plug my laptop directly to router with cable, I tested only 80-90 mbps? Is this normal? I expect to get at 250-300 mbps like what is advertised.

Anybody here is getting near the advertised speed? I already called maxis support many times these few days, the technician came and now my internet better, but the speed is still 80-90 mbps only...any thoughts on this?

Why I pay for 300mbps but only getting 80-90 mbps even if I plug wire into the router?

By right, the lowest speed is 80% of what u pay for. Example if u are paying for 100mbps, min must get 80mbps to qualify. If lower than 80mbps, can complain to maxis or to respective gov etc
*
yea exactly! take unifi for example, my friend subscribe 100mbps but testing got 80-90mbps and that's logical! because it is near what is advertise.

so similarly maxis 300mbps should also be getting..maybe 280-290mbps right? but if u getting 80-90?? too far from advertised.

I think unifi is more honest.

and when u look at their prices u will notice the unifi 300mbps is alot more expensive than maxis 300mbps.. probably because unifi is truly 300mbps? so maxis is cheaper but the speed is not honest (false advertising)

Are you using wifi or ethernet?

Open up device manager (just type Device Manager into windows search)

Find network adapters and open up the drop down menu

Then, look for stuff like "Realtek" "Qualcomm Atheros" "Mediatek RaLink" "Broadcom" or just "Generic"

If you see "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller" then your ethernet can only go up to 100Mbps, and that's where the bottleneck is

As for the wifi, try searching online to see what max speeds it supports, most manufacturers cheap out and put only wifi 4/n
WiFi 4/N depending on your configuration can go from 72Mbps to max of 300Mbps, which might be why your speeds are slow

Alternatively, take a screenshot of that menu and we'll see if there's any culprits that may be causing your slowdown.

Mine (300Mbps) also having same issue and tested speed at 100Mbps only after saw your post. Called Unifi and they will guide you to test and reset port, still at 100Mbps. Now waiting for their technician to check.

do post back when the technicians is done checking, see if you got speed improvement.

That should have no issue getting 300Mbps

But you did mention plugging in via cable directly that only get 100Mbps, make sure your ethernet adapter is capable of Gigabit and you're using an ethernet cable of Cat 5e or higher

if both Wifi and Ethernet you only get 100Mbps, then please call Maxis or MCMC to complain, maybe they've set the wrong speed cap

I've already called many times and just few days ago the technicians came to fix the faulty wire outside, after they were done my internet is now stable, no more DC, constant speed...

but the funny thing is, the speed still same 100mbps...is just now it is stable only.

so guys I think my issue has been resolved, so yesterday maxis called me telling me that because my fibre reading outside my house was terrible, they have contacted TM to come and fixed it, and so TM came and fix and it was all done yesterday...so maxis called me to tell me that TM has fixed the fibre optic reading outside my house.

maxis tell me to reboot router and modem, after that I tested on my laptop, and finally I think my laptop is bottleneck because is cheap laptop and certainly not gigabit ports, with my laptop I'm getting these results...

the above are laptop resulsts

and then I test with my phone wifi connected to 5G band, here are the results...

so with the above results, I'm concluding that it was a faulty fibre optic reading outside my house, and TM has fixed it in the end...as for slow speeds on laptop is definitely due to cheap laptop being a bottleneck, because wifi is totally fine.

So i've found that to get near to 300mbps full speed, you need:

1. physically close to the router if you on wifi
2. OR use cable
3. and if using cable, don't have cheap hardware/laptop/desktop 😂

if you have these 3 things then your internet should be full speed

so anything else guys? This is my final update for this thread...thanks for all the replies so far, has been helpful.

TS, just for correction, your issue were not because of Cheap laptop, its more toward being OLD Laptop, im pretty sure a cheap new laptop thats below RM1.5k would still have gigabit lan port.
