Go to tonymax blog and look for iboot and multibeast. Tony has a generic guide on how to make installation from retail dvd, I did mine two days ago, had a problem but realised that sandy bridge wasn't supported by iboot but works with iboot legacy. Give a try, guide is there.

My Alienware m17x R3 gonna arrive..

anyone know is it possible to install OSX ??

Intel® Core™ i7-2720QM Processor (2.2GHz, 1600 MHz DDR3, 6M cache)
McAfee® Security Center - 15 Months Version
17.3" Full HD (1920x1080) WLED LCD Panel
6GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 x 2GB + 1 x 4GB)
750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
8X DVD + /-RW Drive with DVD + R double layer write capability
1GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 6870M
*
It might work, do a google on m17xr3 and tonymacx86 and you'll find someone has it running with ATI 5870. Apple has just released 6870 support in the latest 10.6.7, so probably you can get native resolution.. what you need to do is .. to test it out.. get the iboot legacy, burn it into either CD or USB drive.. and have your OSX retail DVD (or copy it to USB drive).. ready..

Any dongle thats u prefer to pair this keyboard and mouse?

You need to get a bluetooth dongle, do a search on tonymacx86 or osx86 forums and find out what works and what not.

Here is URL where you can find one that work:

Installing Hackintosh is surely not for those who have faint hearted .. I've got it running on my GA-P67A-UD3-B3 & i5 2400, but a slight change .. and you'll get a broken system. Sometime, you just do not know what went wrong.. especially the new Sandy Bridge based motherboards. My advice for any who're trying to build a Hackintosh from Sandy Bridge, forget it for now. Better spend your time with other stuff smile.gif

Oh .. one more thing, if you've got a system running .. create another partition and have a copy of the OS in that separate partition as backup.

If you've existing setup, you don't really need iBoot .. what you need is the 10.6.7 updater and Multibeast.

sleepenabler can be found either in /System/Library/Extensions or in the /Extra/Extensions

Try going into single user mode (at boot, add -s option) .. I've no idea if you're using Chameleon .. if yes, at the boot flash screen, press any key and then type -s and enter .. it will bring you into single user mode.. you can then remove the sleepenabler after mounting your volume.

Sleep enabler is needed only if you want to let your system to sleep properly .. as of mine .. it went to sleep but it won't wake up.. found out that SandyBridge mobos all having almost similar problem.. so, for now, I set mine to never sleep..

Hi Wiraone. im successfully on Hackintosh 10.6.7.
Can u guide me how to make this harddisk to external hard disk backup?
i want to use it if my hackintosh crash. any software that can copy all the drive to another drive?
*
Yes, you can download a carbon copy cloner, it is a free software. What you can do is to have a hfs+ partition in your external drive, you don't need the exact same space, just enough to have everything in there.. 10GB should be more than enough .. and use CCC to copy the system partition to the new drive.

You can then test this out by either 1) boot directly from the USB/external drive by specifying in the BIOS or 2) during boot, just hit any keys, I believe it will list out all drives that have OS in there and will let you choose which one to boot.

Good luck.

Anybody else on Sandy Bridge? I'm trying to use DSDT but it just doesn't want to work for me. I found an .AML for my motherboard (GA P67A-UD3-B3 BIOS F2). What the easiest to make the bootloader to use the DSDT file? Do I just shove it into the /Extra folder? I tried this and it doesn't work, so I tried using MultiBeast, the AML in my desktop .. it seems to 'work' (I mean the bootloader probably use it), but I get a black screen instead.

Configuration that I have: GA P67A-UD3-B3-F2 Bios, i5 2400, 4GB RAM, 1TB HD, GT430 graphics card. I'm trying to get either the sleep or hibernate to work and best to have the power button calling the shutdown window when it is pressed.. but this doesn't work either sad.gif

Well, I've no idea what do you mean by legacy kernel. I've updated mine to 10.6.7 and the kernel shown by uname is 10.7.3 after I run the BridgeHelper. My boot.plist has the mach_kernel string in it. Someone has it working on his setup, but I just couldn't get mine to work.

mind to upload ur DSDT.aml....i wan to u see what the different 1156 gigabyte mobo dsdt  with 1155 or 1366
maybe can help u to mod something on it like sleep or shut down

Attached is the DSDT.aml generated by DSDT Patcher. And I've attached the .dsl generated by DSDTSE too.

Added on April 9, 2011, 9:03 amBTW, is my graphics card setup depends on the DSDT file too? Currently I need to add a hex string into my boot.plist to get it recognised or otherwise it will boot at lower resolution.

The pc that I use to generate the aml/dsl wasn't booted with DSDT, veriied this using demsg and all the required kexts in E/E are there except the EllionForce (may I know what this kext for?).

I'm using Nvidia GT430 and it has 1GB, bootloader is Chameleon 2.0rc5 with Sandy Bridge support.

Added on April 9, 2011, 10:39 amOh btw, the dsl file is unpatched from dsdtse. I really need read back all the info about this dsdt file. I will take a look at the patcher that you mentioned. The pc is now at my dughter's room.. Told her that never ever to put the thing on sleep smile.gif

I'll try to compare the dsl found on the net and one that is generated from my mobo and see if they're the same.

Yup, followed his guide, there few other guys who can't get the sleep to work. Probably due to the kernel used? If you checked toward the end of that thread, you'll see some of my posts too smile.gif

Digswell, thanks.. BTW, there is something wrong with my extracted dsl file, you can see the diff in the tonymac thread. I believe that probably the main reason mine goes to black/blank screen when I specified the DSDT file.

Added on April 9, 2011, 4:25 pmDigswell, here is my IORegistry file. It seems that the DSDT.aml generated by autopatcher has the wrong base address, the IORegistry file seems to be pointing to the correct address 0xf0000000 while the one in .aml generated by either autopatcher or the one generated when I run ubuntu is pointing to 0xf4000000.

Well, I got it to work, but work well? Far from it smile.gif .. If you're planning on having it on sandy bridge, take a look at the following forum and take note what people has done before, the combination that works well (i.e from motherboard, processor, and graphics card)..

@digswell,

I've the DSDT loaded, removed the unnecessary kexts as per your message and what left are:

CODE

drwxr-xr-x  3 root  wheel   102 Aug 22  2009 LegacyAppleRTC.kext

I ran MultiBeast to rebuild the extension cache and fix permission.

It booted up normally, but I've the following:

I was expecting that the power button will at least work by bringing the shutdown button, this doesn't work. Sleep also doesn't work sad.gif

Reinstall nullcpupowermanagement and removed the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagment, the error gone but still can't sleep properly. Anyway, just upgraded into F3 bios. I probably need to extract a new DSDT file for it. I'll try using autopatcher and see if this works for me.

Is no need to remove AppleIntelCPUPowerManagment....it wont load it u hv install nullcpupowermanagement

Ur mobo cmos bios setting got HPET or not ..if got pls set it to 64bit...
if no hv HPET...cant  work with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagment ...then u hv  use kext driver for sleep and restart
*
The HPET in BIOS already set to 64-bit. BTW, it is okay, I believe I'm quite alright with what it is right now. Thanks a lot for your help on the DSDT.
