haha..cannot la..could you help me install retail on my disk?
but the thing is the hdd got data..but diff part..im just asking ur help..i still cant get the retail disk although got the image..
cant burn it..

Try myHack + retail disk into 8GB USB drive and boot/install from the USB drive. Or probably use the ES2L kit which actually use myHack to the retail disk image.

To use myHack, you need to have access to Mac. I don't have any idea if any method of installing SL by USBdrive that doesn't require Mac. If you've SL retail DVD, you can try iBoot (I know prasys won't be happy smile.gif).

Aha, found modUSB, I haven't try this so I don't know if it works and how well it works:

In another word, the best motherboard for hackintosh is .. the Gigabyte ones smile.gif I haven't got mine to 100% working though, the sleep doesn't work, speedstep is questionable.. that is on gigabyte sandy bridge mobo. But somehow, Gigabyte has many supporters in hackintosh world, so it is easy to get "support" especially with cooking the DSDT file.

To lessen your headache with dual booting, best is to install the SL first, 1 & 2) this will create a guid partition. Done with this, install Win7, you need to format the empty partition to fat32 from SL or else Win7 will complain about guid parititon and won't allow you to proceed further. After you've installed the Win7, boot using iboot and reinstall chameleon/chimera whichever you choose. This will allow you to choose which OS you want to boot.

3) extra drivers, well, no idea, probably .. haven't try installing into laptop ..

4) dsdt most probably required if you want a properly working setup, this is surely needed for sleep.. but if you can use sleepenabler w/o dsdt, then it is fine too.

5) depends, if you want to have a bleeding edge, go and download 10.6.7 combo update.

Hello...being trying to install hackintosh on my hp pavilion dv6-6001tx

After the first boot from iBoot, i insert snow leopard disk and press f5
After a few minutes, came out two line stating 'system halted'

Any ideas? Thanks
*
Can you write down here what exactly said on your screen? Couldn't help much with the system halted error since it can be caused by anything that cause the system to stop the installation. It is much easier to see where it stop if you use verbose option. During the bootup with iboot, supply -v option and it will give more information on your screen.

And please share you system specifications here too.

Try to use iboot legacy instead of iboot and see if this works for you.

@timeline, are you trying to install on a specific desktop or your own build? What brand/model is your motherboard?

@timeline, a bit of googling on the error you're getting, few things coming out from the search but the one that might be the same problem as yours is .. forgotten to swap the retail DVD and press F5 to choose the retail DVD.

@timeline, have you tried the Andy method? His AndyCD boot can be found here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=252849

Try to disable Turbo, EIST in your BIOS.

And according to one posting in tonymacx86, you may need to disable the 2 core in your bios as can be found in this discussion:

@timeline, good to know you've it working. Suggested if you've extra space in your HD, create another backup partition so you don't need to reinstall everytime you messed up your setting. Use Carbon Copy Cloner and it will save a lot of your time reinstalling the OS when something goes wrong.

On the graphics card, have you install the latest chimera from multibeast? What I did on my daughter setup (her pc has gts430), was to run the nvidia updater and then install the latest chimera and that all need to get it run on its native resolution.

On the DLink USB, I didn't do much either to get it working, it seems just working. Check if you've it connected on USB3 port though, I've had a headache trying to figure out what wrong with my initial setup just to find out that I've my USB on USB3 ports which not natively supported by SL.

I agreed with your opinion, it seems that tonymac is much more newbie friendly. Don't really care if he copied it from someone else, but he makes everything easy for newbie like me before when trying to get things working.

hi timelime. what graphic card you use for dual monitor?
currently im using nVDIA 8400GS and have DVI, VGA and HDMI port. im success using VGA & DVI for dual monitor, thinking of buying new lcd with DVI and searching for a best Graphic card. smile.gif
*
If you're going for the new nVidia card, do check the compatibility .. some are not supported. If you're not doing gaming, probably go for a well known card that is working. I'm using XFX5770, I know it is not the higher end but it works well in my dual monitor setup. Check the usual *i won't name it* forum and check out other's experiences with different graphics card and find that is known to be working.

List down the specs of your system here and someone could then see if they're supported or not.

For installation? Nope, I was using myhack since I don't have dvd drive. The way I did it was by booting to another copy of osx which I did using carbon copy cloner, and install the update into the main osx partition. Since I'm using sandybridge, I did my patch to one of the kext for speedstep to work and install audio hd rollback using multibeast.

@hamswat, your specs looks good enough to get OSX running. What you need now is the retail DVD and if you're happy with tonymacx86 guide, head up to http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ibo...ac-os-x-on.html .. however, feel free to use other method if you disagree with tonymac way (as pointed by prasys).. there are 1001 methods out there.

wiraone - Everything working 100% with your current rig? Any advice which 1155 mobo to buy for OSX?

I've two system running SL 10.6.7 & 10.6.8. One is running on Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 with i5/2400. This system is running on 10.6.7 right now and has been working great. Sleep, speedstep etc work just fine. The other one is running on ASUS P8Z68V-PRO with i7/2600K. For this one, speedstep works but sleep doesn't work well, I could get it to sleep finally yesterday after I upgraded it to SL 10.6.8 and set something to the UEFI bios. But still not fully working as expected, when waking up from sleep, the LAN and few other stuffs are not working. But I rarely need to put this thing to sleep though since it is my main machine. I usually turned it off when I'm not using it..

If you go with Gigabyte motherboards, you probably do not need to play around much with extensions, there are DSDT file that you could use for most Gigabyte motherboard. For ASUS, it is different story, somehow, ASUS has disabled some MSR bits in the BIOS and that causes the speedstep to not work out of box. But there is a way around this, by patching the kext file.

Choose the motherboard that you're comfortable with.. avoid MSI for now. Someone have successfully install SL on the latest ASRock Z68 motherboard, so probably you want to go for the option if you wish to.

ok.thank you very much. btw, can i use the mac os x which i have downloaded ? i've accidentally downloaded snow leopard 10.6.3 but its ok right ? Coz i can update to newer version later on..
*
I surely will not endorse the way you get the SL, but it is up to you really. Yup, the latest retail DVD for SL is 10.6.3 and you can upgrade it to the latest 10.6.8 after you've successfully installed the 10.6.3.

Without any extensions in /Extra other than for the audio and FakeSMC, all my SATA devices are detected as "Unknown AHCI Standard Controller". This is on 10.6.8 running latest kernel 10.8.
