Yes. you have your answer there. When a law is amended or a new law is enacted, it will get view of various stakeholders (in our discussion here, using a car produced and sold. That will involve the car maker themselves (producer), the parts maker (sub-producer), the dealers (seller) and perhaps some consumer protection group representatives (buyer), then never forget banks too (the financier). Some how, after review of all facts and thoughts in Singapore, this happened.

Any law made is often accused of being unjust, unfair and inadequate. In reality however, the law is simply a framework comprising a set of rules and principles that have been developed so that people know where they stand in their dealings with each other.
For the framework to work, it needs to be applied consistently and uniformly. But it is also going to be further developed over time as and when the need arise. Law is never final, it is subject to amendments.

"Quality criteria stated by manufacturer" is simply to be understood as the features of a production vehicle or production car are mass-produced identical models, offered for sale to the public including its durability, its limitation of use, its warranty terms and conditions, etc.  So as the car company who produce it, of course the manufacturer shall have a right and a say in those things. All things produced (not necessarily jut cars) of course have limitation of use, and limitation of time/durability.

So don't become panic over a general statement like that.

And please don't feel Singapore is no good by my example because Singapore is ranked higher when it comes to rule of law

https://worldjusticeproject.org/rule-of-law-index/global

https://worldjusticeproject.org/rule-of-law-index/global

Malaysia is higher ranked in rules of law compare to China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines and other SEA countries

Whatever law they want to draw up, I am not bothered nor interested. In the most unfortunate event I ever become the plantiff, I pity the defendant who is going to face me in court. No out of court settlement nonsense.

My dad's friend long time ago on Perdana v6 gb issue for a brand new car. Send proton said already repaired all under warranty but problem return back on 7th day. Last time all manufaturer love taici one if warranty claim, not as of today. Send tribunal and won. Won rm4k+ when the gb itself cost much more.

Hopefully lemon law asap here

Actually I was really bothered by it but now not so, as I have already done my homework and I will cross the bridge when I get there. In the meantime, they better hope that my ride is not nick because I will go to court given the chance.

It’s too early for car buyers to know the ethics and corporate cultures of the new car companies while there is no law to protect Malaysian motorists from defective vehicles....

...It’s therefore more urgent than ever to enact a lemon law to protect Malaysian car buyers especially in the new era of smart cars and electric vehicles.

In the meantime, perhaps it’s better for car buyers who are interested in China-made cars and EVs to stick with those distributed by Malaysian car distributors renowned for excellent after sales service.

September 2024 to complete feasibility study and aiming to introduce a Bill for such a law next March, (2025), so scammers can sleep for some more time as even the bill is introduced, when will it be tabled to Parliament and get enacted and enforced?

Yesterday a new idea floated:ombudsman scheme

Hopefully it turn out as per plan. Afraid manufacturers put some stopper there which end up delay a bit. Just like long time ago, Diesel Bio-diesel plan, delay cz manufacturers all reluctant to commit this at initial phase, they come out statement their diesel engine cant take it for example.

This government is as how JP Morgan puts it: walk the talk

https://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...ace-of-progress

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/07/11/jpmorgan-up...cy-reforms.html

This 1 and a half year old government is gungho and daring but offensive to some quarters whom are sensitive.

Even GLCS can't escaped from being grilled, we are seeing stuffs we have never seen before since decades where GLCs were wearing a perpetual "pardoned" badges

https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/07/...mpanies-flagged

So you think automakers have much hindrance power? No I think not. Not even Proton let alone Perodua , and time is ticking for all. The beauty is market force shall determine who will actually be the winners. Think of how Tesla made it here and BYD becomes top 10 sales in Malaysia in such short time
