Hi,

I always like to play JRPG in NS because usually JRPG has very long playing hours and grinding, where i can play them anytime whenever i have free time.

Recently i just finished the Octopath Traveller, now im looking for another good JRPG to play.

Im eyeing on either one of them
ATELIER RYZA or BRAVELY DEFAULT 2

Not sure which 1 to go, any advise? My free time only allow me to go 1 NS game at a time. thanks ya

If you're fine with Strategy rpg, do consider Fire Emblem Three Houses. Do watch youtube gameplays first for this genre.

Bravely Default II is like the old school Final Fantasy, i think you'll get the picture.

Comparing between these 2.
If you like standard jrpg, go with bravely default 2.

If you’re extremely into crafting, then Ryza might be better.
Ryza story tend to be more slice of life for a majority of it too. So you don’t really play it for the overarching story.

Bravely Default 2 is currently having severe performance problems on both Docked / Portable mode .

In fact the performance is worse than it was in the first demo .
Plenty of issues ranging from choppy cutscenes , very low res AA , low jaggy edges suppression even for a switch game .

I am sure some ultra defensive fanboi will come and defend the platform again .

Maybe dropping down to 500p and 20 fps isn't a big deal for some people . A lot of us still play old school retro games .
But that does not apply in this case because it is negatively affecting the gameplay .

Sometimes during a combat you pressed a button and the game skipped a couple of frames , cause you to " confirm " the action without even seeing it .
I have had that happened a few times during boss fight and that was NOT funny .

Don't understand how people can put up with this .

Such a shame because other than that game is pretty solid . Just wait for a patch before you buy it .

That is because most reviewers don't really care enough to play it on the docked mode or they just don't care .

It is mentioned in some of the more technical sites such as this one .

And yes I have spent about 20 hours ++ in the game , the choppy frame rates are far too distracting especially if you ever play it on a big TV screen .

I supposed if you are going to play this on handheld mode only , they are more tolerable .

I’ve been playing Bravely default 2 docked and via a cartridge.
There are definitely lag in several cases, but due to the nature of the game (jrpg), it’s not too bad imo.

If you're into fighting style, you can try vesperia if you havent played it on 360/ps3/ps4.

Feels like a different game if played with the other characters especially casters after you're bored with yuri.

I'm a fan of JRPGs as well and I finished Octopath right until the final hidden boss, here's my recommendation:
1. Shin Megami Tensei V - actually I bought it but have yet to play.. I like it because of #2
2. Tokyo Mirage Sessions - a bit underrated, but fun mechanics nonetheless. This is why I bought SMTV
3. Dragon Quest XI - my favourite JRPG at the moment, completed the game and post-game as well.. took me well over 120 hours... and I have not even touched the 2D parts
4. Live A Live - similar art as Octopath, have not played it as well, but planning to soon. Heard good reviews about it

Playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PC at the moment, then gonna play Live A Live and SMTV.

Looking forward to Persona 5 and Nier Automata on Switch.
