Hi, I would like to upgrade my Asus laptop (A556u) with a new SSD and to place my initial HDD in the caddy. I have the my SSD and the caddy readily and I just need someone to perform the installation process. How much does it normally cost for the installation? I have asked for some laptop repairs service near me and they offered around RM120 and above. Is this the market price? I tried to do it myself but I just failed at it.

Swapping out harddrive is more than just physically changing the drive from HDD to SSD.

You will also need to clone your HDD to your new SSD, and reinstall your windows OS and other software. This entire process will take up on average 3 hours.

If you're not familiar with this, paying an expert around RM100 to do it for your professionally helps save you time and giving you a peace of mind.

If you tried once and then gave up, i think you better try again.. haha. i tried 2 times before getting it right the first time years ago, although i didnt do it on a laptop but on my pc. xD If you failed at the software part I think its not that hard to get it right, just make sure the physical part of installation is right. xD If you're really not sure then better get a professional to help you. biggrin.gif rclxm9.gif

I just use minitool partition to migrate to ssd. No need to reinstall windows and it's easy to do. Don't forget to change boot drive to ssd

Cloning ur HDD to ur SSD is diy doable, if you can get the right software to use. Google search a bit first for some free software that can do the job.
if don't know which to pick, you can look up minitool partition wizard (free to use still I believe), or macrium reflect (also free).
relatively painless, but please make sure you select source disk vs destination disk properly. (joke aside, don't do this when you are sleepy)

This works fine if HDD to SSD is the only upgrade you do. Almost risk free as you are not changing anything else on your computer except HDD. (better if you are doing this on say a desktop with both your HDD and SSD connected via either sata or usb cables)

Once cloning is done, you can remove your HDD and plug in your SSD. Everything will work as per normal except loading time is much faster. Keep your HDD for a while in case you need to fall back onto your HDD (very very very rare event if cloning done right).

note: if the ssd and hdd are of different sizes, you may need to change the partition sizes using the software so as "not to waste the ssd" or "to fit the HDD partitions into a smaller SSD".
