I live in Setia Alam
My office is at Sg Buloh
I use either NKVE or GCE daily
The distance is a lot so I’m going quite fast usually
Car is Honda City
Original rims sizes at 185/55/16
Tires used
Toyo Nano Energy 3 = so so only, not much confidence on higher speeds and raining grip is average.
Good Year Triple Max = I think those were the original ones when I bought the car, average performer but thinking back probably abit better than the Toyo.
Currently only 1 side has unusual wear so need to replace 2, was thinking finding a decent brand and continue with all 4 with the same size.
Friends recommendation are
Rovelo A1
Dunlop Formula d05/06
Toyo TR1
More important for me is grip, I don’t mind to trade off on getting poor thread wear as I change tires almost yearly at around 15 months mark.
Here is my dua sen.
If you don't want to go for touring/economy tires due to alot of high speed travelling but want to maintain at the same size due to only replacing two while you have 2 more tires in decent condition then go for Dunlop Formula d05 or d06, because they're decent local unpretentious tires. You can do the upgrading later on, these tires are decent for the price, for me they're the closes you'll get to UHP for the price range and wacky OEM tire size. OEM tire size will always be all the economy/touring tires.
While TR1 is indeed a good option, they don't last long but it depends on your thoughts.
Are you just getting something as a stop gap measure so you can change all 4 and upgrade rim size so you can go for more common 16" tire sizes?
Then I suppose there is no wrong there but the TR1 would be a premium over the FD05/06 because it is "Toyo TR1" although the thread pattern is different they still want to use that name as a sort of branding.
Many pointed out proven UHP's are now all above 200 per side even for common 15" sizes.
So for 16" expect that price to inflate nearer to 300 per side.
Cheapest I've seen RE003's for 205/45/r16 is rm265 per side.
Rovelo's claim to fame isn't the A1 but another model which copies the thread pattern of AD08R.
They're a decent brand but as someone else already said, they're Vietnamese made but JV with Sailun of China.
I wouldn't say they're bad per se as Sailun does JV with many Chinese uni's for their R&D, but they prefer to play the price game.
