Hi guys, bought a Honda City 2014 GM6 not too long ago and i felt that the halogen headlights are a bit too dim so decided to upgrade to LEDs. I did some digging around and apparently the white coloured 6000K is ILLEGAL while the 4300K colour is somewhat in the grey area? My question is whether 6000K is illegal or not? Also in terms of performance are they both the same? White colour 6000K should be brighter right?

Saw some pretty cheap LEDs in shopee called C6 or whatever but seems like they have a few bad reviews. Did anyone bought them before? How's the performance? Or perhaps any of you can recommend a good one to me?

Thanks

Have been using cheapo c6 for 6 months but hard to judge because less travel during mco. Brighter than halogen. Get the yellow light

why do you recommend yellow light though?

Just change to Osram NB Laser or Philip XV +130 and be done with it.

Those bulb are not cheap, and lifespan is quite short, LED from what i read outlasts halogen bulbs by far... that's one of the reason why i considering LED as well

you want brightness or you want looks?

brightness some of the official way is to use Osram Nightbreaker series or the philips equivalent, as per speedy3210 said

though these "better" bulbs would have shorter life time, some up to 1/3 your default bulb

mine last 1 year or so with 8k -ish drive

if you really want brighter bulb, do the H9 modification to fit H11
without the glare cap and higher wattage (65W vs 55W) it will be brighter, but can cause glaring

Colour temp (4300K , 6000K) does not mean brighter
just yellow vs white colour perceived by the eyes

it has been said that white light (5000k and above) have trouble in rainy or foggy situations
while yellow penetrates better and give better definition in these poor visibility conditions

though recent development of the LED bulb does indeed give better light output (Lumens) there is still the problem using LED in a reflector type headlamp.
this is due to unable to have the lighting element (in this case, the LED chip) be thin and small enuff to be in the exact same location as the  filament in a normal bulb

so the light output would have slight offset and can create hotspot/shadow

also be wary of LED with great putput initially, but fizzle out over time due to heat
units with active cooling would suffer greatly if to say the fan malfunction, or even reduced performance in cooling over time

one benefit of LED is the perceived longer lifetime
but this would be negated if to say the later half of the bulb life, it shone less bright than when it was new

I see. Great information, thanks for the reply, it is true quite pointless if after a certain amount of time the LED become dim, totally negate the point of long lifespan

TS, is your car tinted? Maybe the tint too dark.
Philips ZES is good. Bright and low power.

If use LED bulb, make sure to set the lamp height correctly.
When done, stand in front your own car with the lights on make sure you don't punish other drivers.

Yes tinted, but front 70%, followed JPJ specs.

Correct.. if existing is halogen headlamp, either reflector or projector, go with halogen bulb. Cheap and almost standard price.

A lot of low quality aftermarket led bulb and sell to people that wish to have a change. Basically burn your pocket money for no reason..

So what about buying high quality aftermarket LED bulb? Saw one selling on FB called Xray Vision but costs RM400+.... wonder how many halogen bulbs you can buy with RM400+..... so tempted to buy but its gonna burn a big hole in my pocket rclxub.gif

Hey guys, thought I should provide an update here. In the end I decided to just buy 4300k LEDs because full retrofit is just too expensive for me haha. Looked online and decided to buy this after seeing the reviews seems ok:

The end result?

I must say WOW definitely much brighter than my old regular bulbs and so far no glaring issues. Not sure how would it compare to those full LED and projector retrofits that costs RM2k though. Nevertheless still very happy as the price is quite cheap and can already satisfied my needs. So far already using almost 6 months and very happy with it biggrin.gif thumbup.gif
