Hello guys, I have very limited knowledge on TV and just wanted to upgrade the current 40" plasma TV to something new for my wife. Need some recommendations, below are my criteria:

Budget: RM2000 - RM2500
Size: 55" or above. Wife wants a bigger TV, that's it
Resolution: 4k? I think that's the standard for 55" LED TVs.
HDMI: Need 3 at least
Brand: Prefer established brand like LG / Sharp / Samsung etc.

Thanks!

No point buying 4k if you don’t have 4k content

Get a Sharp 4K 60". 3x HDMI

Note: will require a TV bench of 6 feet or longer, coz the TV itself is about 5 feet long.

Looks like a good deal for 65". She just wants a huge screen, the tech doesn't matter much

Fully aware of that, but the problem is modern 55" these days doesn't come with 1080p anymore if I'm not mistaken. 4k seems to be the least these days

I'm using the older model (LC60UA6500X), 60" 4K not-so-smart TV (NOT full smart).
Mine can only youtube. No complains so far, got mine for RM2499 warehouse sale (new box) back in 2018-2019 thereabouts.

Running Netflix 4K on a mibox. icon_rolleyes.gif coz the 600 bucks difference for built in android of the then-higher model 6800X (which may or may not be upgradeable) can buy me 3 units of mibox already.

For my TV bench area I needed a 7 feet one to fill up the space (to follow my wall).
Problem was back then all the long TV benches from Ikea was around 1000 bucks.
So made my own TV bench to save cost and get something that fits the wall nicely.

Realistically, should budget about 6 feet long TV bench so that you have space at both sides, and with that space you can place stuff beside it (router/mibox/DVD player etc).
Bare minimum required is 5 feet clearance I would say (for 60") if space is a problem.

I recommend Samsung 55" RU7100 for RM2100 or 55" TU8000 for RM2500. Reason to choose Samsung TV:
1. Unlike some other vendors, Samsung release the same model of TV in Malaysia as in other countries, so reviews are abundant. You can read well-researched reviews at RTNGS.com. Overall, these are well-rounded TVs in terms of picture quality (in comparison to similarly priced TV).
2. My use case is just casual tv watching, Youtube, and console gaming. No need to install custom Android apps. No need for gaming 120Hz. Samsung TV software ecosystem is very solid.
3. TV response time is consistently low and is suitable to be used as computer monitor.
4. Some additional integration feature with Samsung soundbar. If you consider price of TV+Soundbar from same manufacturer, then Samsung is probably the lowest. Anyway, the TV is loud enough without needing a soundbar.

Things to note:
5. Viewing angles - since the TV uses VA panel, the viewing angle review score was not great. However, from my own experience as causal user, I watch tv some of the time from my dining table around 16ft from right side of TV but did not notice the difference (the colors deteriorate a bit but you won't notice it unless you are really comparing it to viewing head-on).
6. The 7100-series does not uses Bluetooth for remote. IR remote is slow. If you are able to buy the correct USB dongle & remote, then your experience will improve significantly. No issue with the 8000-series remote which uses Bluetooth.

The X750H is brighter. Below is the comment from rtngs.com.

The Sony X750H and the Samsung TU8000 have very similar overall performance. The Sony has a higher peak brightness in SDR and HDR, and it has a better HDR color gamut. However, the Samsung has a better Black Frame Insertion feature that can help improve motion clarity and it has better screen uniformity

Neither is actually meaningful .

Nobody use BFI on a 60hz TV unless you want the flicker to blind your eyes .
Screen uniformity is always a lottery since it is affected by mass product variance .

Therefore the X750H wins , by a large margin .

Just having the support of WCG is a huge leap ahead .
