Notebook Computers. Japan's Sony Corp has recalled some 5,600 Sony VAIO notebook computers made on the Chinese mainland. Users could receive a mild electric shock when the computers are connected to a phone line and the phone rings

MacBook Pro also made in China. Nowadays everyone went to China/Taiwan for OEM products and relabel them as their own. No body can challenge the temptation of bigger margin.

YUPPP my gf's new notebook is made in china, shocked me..last time my vaio is made in japan (the purple version)
well so far ok..in fact it looks quite good like a japan made notebook........excep they made the plastic part quite "plastic" feel..........compare to the older types, the pastic part doesnt really feel plasticky......
so far ok have not drop the notebook to see how durable it is.......

The SZ and TZ are Made in Japan and have a price premium that reflects this. I'm not sure if the AR is. The others are Made in China. There shouldn't be significant differences in reliability as the various parts and components come from all over the world, mainly China.

QUOTE(EmperorMeng @ Aug 22 2007, 09:52 PM) if the VAIO is produced in China, only the manpower is from CHINA. be reminded that the quality is not compromised at all. Fake and low quality China products are because of fake and cheap material from chapalang company (or pirated goods of branded company - illegal) So, A Good Laptop May Be Assembled in China . Manpower(workforce) =/= Ingredients (materials) In conclusion, if materials sux, made in USA also is useless. It doesnt matter where u assemble the good. lazy to retype

Also to add on is I believe these MNC will impose strict QA control so that the product that bear their name are not tarnished by the shoddy workmanship. And plus, many processes are automated by machine nowadays, so, I don't think the different is that much except psychologically. Btw, do you know that many products that bear Japanese name nowadays are mostly not made in Japan for example the Toyota or Honda?
