Not sure why, but most conti have ignition coil problem around 5 year +/- but Japanese can last. Never change any ignition coil for all my Japs - Nissan, Mazda, Toyotas, thr closest thst need to change are just coil plugs every 3-5 years

QUOTE(HalseyFrangipane @ Jan 26 2021, 01:26 AM) Mind sharing what issues you have faced in detail? Thanks. Ignition coil aside, the cooling system is a problem that left me stranded twice on the roadside - radiator, hoses and thermostat, steering rack, gasket and oil seals, arms and bushes, sold it before the next change cycle is due.

QUOTE(HalseyFrangipane @ Jan 26 2021, 06:54 PM) How long did the cooling system last before it failed on you? I bought it 2nd, never occurred to me it failed within 1st year..change radiator and hoses, then 2nd time struck in 2nd year - this time thermostat and subsequently other things crept up..but still it's a good 5 years ownership, think I spent around 15k+ on repair not inclusive of servicing.

QUOTE(HalseyFrangipane @ Jan 27 2021, 03:54 AM) Thanks for sharing. Just got 1 several months ago and did some refreshes. Wanted to do a full cooling system refresh but my mechanic said the expansion tank seems new and the hoses are still pretty decent so I should wait to save money lol. Sometimes I do worry as the cooling system and the fuel pump are the biggest suspects in leaving us stranded. Glad to know your overall ownership was deemed as good haha. My E46 was way back almost 10 years ago, the maintenance cost should be much lower by now I suppose. In regards to maintaining a BMW - always change the whole chain of parts- meaning - for example, once you change compressor, be prepared to change condenser, cooling coil, cooling fan etc, my mechanic always say conti require to change the whole rather than sum of parts otherwise subsequent failure is deem too risky and can potentially affect critical component. This is the reason why maintaining a conti require extra budget, u need to replace connected components - not sure if your mechanic give the same advise.

Sorry to hear, maybe you should have look for ECU/chip repair specialist, but since it's already done, then no choice, otherwise these specialist will open your ECU and rebuilt..probably cost a fraction.

QUOTE(19 Degree South @ Feb 1 2021, 09:55 AM) CAr jerk during cold start in the morning! when you turn off and restart again, everything gone back to normal . Also Suffered from torque issue when on low RPM around 1k @ 40km/h. This was a engine misfiring issue i belip. I did asked and google but cant seemed to find the right answer for this issue. My personal experience would be when if your car has torque issue, better to check the spark plugs and coil. Damaged coil will most likely damage the ECU if the issue is not being resolved early as i was told. C klasse! Thought so too bro but i preferred to have warranty for peace of mind as ECU is quite a critical part of the car. Actually i have gone for two opinions on this issue, one from the MErcs specialist workshop and one from C&C . Let me share, my car TCU (transmission control module) kong and I am practically stuck on gear...was outstation at the same time, it's was absolute panic - had to drive 200 km stop start before I reach nearest RNR for towing, due to stipulated distance Checked with SC - the cost blew me sideway - rm2500 not inclusive of labor for new TCU. Then I surveyed around and found a specialist who advertised ECU repair. Again arrange for tow truck to sent to sg buloh - total repair rm1.5k - with 6 months warranty, whereas new TCU replacement at SC - 1 month warranty.. just sharing, maybe your SC give longer warranty..
