If that laptop not going to be mobile (taken anywhere), might as well get a PC with better specs and better future proof (in term of upgrades). Laptop nowadays are expensive because of demand/supply, even for secondhands. PC on the other hand, still relatively affordable and can fit your budget nicely.

If you swap all for the top specs i.e Ryzen 7, 512gb ssd, better screen, 16gb ram, it should be around 3k which I personally feel a better bargain

Apart from the bigger and (easily) better quality display, nowadays you don’t get much savings going for budget desktop (sub RM3k) over budget laptops.

Desktop chips/RAM/mobo/GPU are expensive nowadays. Also, you need to spend more specifically for casing/PSU/coolings/windows/office. Laptop on the other hand likely had those accounted for.

Heck you even need to spend extra to get peripherals like wifi/webcam/keyboard on your desktop, while again it’s accounted for even in the cheapest laptop.

You can see this sub 2k desktop and how mediocre it can be. The 2.3k lenovo in my previous post easily gives better specs and value I would say.

TL;DR, desktop is expensive nowadays and more for specialised works and usages. A budget laptop will likely provide all rounder usages for 99% of typical consumers while been as cheap (or even cheaper).
