OMG my post dissapeared shakehead.gif

Anyway I was saying that, you graphics option is limited based on your hardware and that the demo is an old build. Some of the bugs have been solved and there is a day zero patch to improve optimisation. Loadings have improved in the retail version.

I know this because someone went to Creative Assembly studio to see the full version in an open day event.

PS : A little hint to everyone...In naval battles, with a ship selected, press insert....you will be surprised...really cool.
*
Yeah our posts got deleted.....

I'll try that out when I get home.

Actually if you test out the land scape more, and place your artillery in a good position they will be just sitting ducks for you but you have to be fast.

That requires a tech research in firing drill...in the campaign mode...you will get the second line firing as the first line crouches.

The tech tree in empire is actually rather good i heard
*
The people in the modding thread got it to work 2 lines of infantry firing at the same time. I wonder if that napoleon 5 line firing squad will be in the full campaign or not. brows.gif brows.gif

*
BTW what did IGN review give M2TW? I remembered that they wanted this game to top M2TW.

You can do it but it's kinda broken by the new Zone of Control thinggy.

Basically you need to bring your "support" army inside the ZoC of the army you want to fight first.

Then attack with your main army.

It can fail if the ennemy does an intercept on your support army.

But it seems they totally broke the way reinforcements enter the battle from previous TW.

In previous TW if on the campain the reinforcement were on the east of you, on the battle map they would enter by the east.

In ETW it seems they always enter from behind you which is totally stupid (most probably yet another bug).

Same for your own reinforcement, they enter behind the ennemies...
*
Ahh so you guys are talking bout the campaign I was thinking bout joining 2 platoon of army.

Guys anyone want to join Friday Night Battle? I need Steam ID's if you are interested...Only land battles for now because Naval battles need some tweaking to allow some restrictions in online battles.

This Friday starting 9pm. I will work on a format to make this interesting.
*
I'll see if I can join cause I might not be at home on friday night.

In the campaign map, they usually can have like supporting armies before entering real battle mode if both armies are very near. Must be the zone thingy, like must be very very near then only can have it.
*
Ahh yeah I know, last time in rome total war I had 3 armies with 20 groups of army fightinh one group of army totally massacring. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Do you mean like if you have two line infantry units that took casualties and are now at like 40 men each, to regroup them in one unit of 80 men? From what I know this is not possible.

*
Yes I thought he meant that, but I guess I misunderstood him. :/

Dont' worry, me not too pro myself. fujkenasai is the real expert tongue.gif  I already invited you...
*
LuLWut me pro we are just on par the 2 battles that I won were only a difference of a few men.

QUOTE(Gormaz @ Mar 18 2009, 02:06 PM)
Thanks frags, I will try to train up a bit before that, the Battles for me do not crash, only the great campain so it should be fine.

@RegentCid: yar, I think also because it's very new for lots of us, need to take into account the wind, broasides etc.
Land battles are still pretty "familiar" from the previous TW or other games even if the new era made some pretty big changes from the other TW.

I enjoy the naval battles a lot but only with few ships on each side otherwise it becomes pretty messy for me until now.
*
Yeah naval is really hard to play and I think we need to micro the ships individually alot instead of using the formation command I think they do not work well.

Yar, I personally like to have like 3-4 ships max on your side only so you can micro them  (different types of cannonballs, manual broadsides) etc.

More than that and you simply do not have the time to fully exploit the possibilities imo. I can't imagine handling full stack of ships battle...

And yes, if you have heavy ships against smaller one, the smaller ones can just avoid you and run to the wind, turn a bit, broadside and move away until they reload, your big ships would not be able to do anything... but if the smaller ships make one mistake, he is going to suffer  tongue.gif

For me since I never managed to play a grand campain for very long (they crash and my saves get corrupted) so I never managed to get all the very advanced ships or troops. I think biggest ship I had was a 3rd rate with Britain and Fire Ranks tech for land battles.

I have done some custom battles against Ai with more advanced stuff to try out... god the artillery become a beast at higher level troops!
*
I think its almost impossible for small ships to get cheap shots at big ships and get minimal damage because though small ships are fast they are not that fast even with full sails and the exact direction of the wind, hence big ship still win the battles in the end.

Oh yeah...not to mention that you taking potshots will probably just translate to just a small scratch on the big ships. The hull on the second rates are damn strong! It is like a Kancil ramming into a S class Mercedes. Either way you get destroyed...badly...
*
Are you kidding me kancil ramming a S class its basically a bicycle raming a tank. hahahahahaha

QUOTE(Gormaz @ Mar 18 2009, 03:20 PM)
Well, I managed to bring down a 5th rate with 2 sloops before by managing to stand behind it for most of the time (took me a long time though and it was against AI so it's definitely not applicable often and in multi)

I was not really thinking of a "Sloop Vs 1st or 2nd rate" kind of fight, there you are indeed pretty much screwed yar ^^

But if your ships are just 1-2 "level" smaller, moving around is the way to go imo

Ships also take more damage from stern or bow shots from what I can see, they tend to sink way faster when you hit them there than when you hit the flanks (which is actually realist, stern and bow were the biggest weakpoints of wood ships)

Again, I have never handle ships bigger than 3rd rate before since my campain crashes so my experience is limited to smaller ships, and there is less difference between each ships at this level I think (Galleons are a pure beast though)
*
I think thats why british main ships are 3rd rate ships cause they are mobile enough and carry enough fire power, anything smaller than that does not have enough fire power stronger is just too clumsy.

Then you are the exception because from what I can read on forums it's a known bug the AI will almost never ferry troops by boats (CA has also recognized it's bugged), whatever the difficulty level

During my French campain I played on VH/H and I did not see anyone else in Indian except me and the ones that started there. When I played UK I left it undefended and nobody ever tried to invade  sad.gif

Good to know it at least "can" happen until CA fix it.
*
Sigh all the bugs btw do you guys still have problems with sounds? I hope I do not get my saves corrupted. sweat.gif

Geforce 7900 (on dell laptop) here

No much lag but I have most options at low/medium (and I cut the useless options like shadows or nice sky for battles)

Yar, I seems to be one of the few that are pretty badly touched by the bugs, I am not the only one but seems my case is one of the worst I have read. But even if my config is pretty low some folks are getting same as me with much higher machines.

Good to know at least others are enjoying the campains  smile.gif
Oh, and I need a new machine >_<
*
I hope I do not get the same problem, ohh well I think I better finish the RTI 1st.
