So I decided to create a thread for this, I did a quick google search by just googling iphone 12 battery usage, and I actually saw a bunch of people especially overseas having battery draining issues, like their battery would drain 10-20%, some even 50% overnight, and battery usage overall while using is just bad.

Today I kind of experience it myself and I think i'm one of them, hence I open this thread and ask if anyone experience the same, i dont charge my phone overnight, so technically im able to tell how much battery % it drops when i wake up, normally it drops around 3%, but today it drops to 5%, and I only have wifi connected, with some background apps ( whatsapp, insta, wechat ) as they say not to force close apps, no use in saving battery. Then last night, I was using my phone for simple text messaging and scrolling social medias, and my battery drop around 2-3% in a span of 10 minutes, i might be overthinking, but is this normal ?

I then went to reddit to consult, and people there say it's software issue of the iPhone 12, not the phone itself, have to wait for the next iOS update for them to fix this issue, so just wanna ask anyone experiencing the same and agree that it's software issue or it's just unlucky me ? My battery overall is still ok, but its actually draining faster than my iPhone 6 in terms of overnight.

Screen brightness impact battery the most.

Next is heated processor, do you put thick casing or bare naked?

Next is signal, 3G / 4G? As further away you from tower, then higher transmit power it uses. Try off network and just use Wifi u see power utilization improves.

In terms of screen brightness, I have it set to the lowest, at around 15-20% ALL THE TIME. So I think can rule that out.

I'm using Apple's official silicone case, so it shouldn't impact my day to day battery usage ?

I'm using WIFI most of the time and turn on mobile data when I'm at home, when I go out, i use mobile data. I have been using WIFI and off mobile data when im at home so i tried that, still I think the battery drains quite fast.

The thing is, dropping 5% overnight is not normal ? Or it is ?

5% over 6-8 hours quite normal. Show your battery here.

It's normal ? My battery regularly drain 3-5% overnight daily.

Here's my battery right now.

3-5% drain is normal. Anything more than that is worth investigating.

Hmm ok so I'm overthinking it then. Then what about dropping 2-3% in 10 minutes constantly using text messaging / scrolling insta etc.

Yes, when in use the battery drops really fast, especially using 4G/Mobile data. It’s not rocket science, just physics. The smaller the battery, the faster it drains when in use smile.gif

I see, really don't have much knowledge in all these, now I understand how it works, so my battery is 100% in perfect condition, just that the battery drains faster because of 4G and smaller battery. tongue.gif

Btw i see those youtubers doing the battery test for iPhone 12, they constantly have the screen on doing heavy duty stuff, which can lasts 8 hours, which means if we normal people use, definitely can get around that mark as well ?

Ya bro, if you just sit down and use the phone non-stop for 8 hours, I’m sure it’ll be possible. I can easily get 6 hours screen on time from the phone based on 60% WiFi and 40% mobile data on a regular day.

Wahhh, but i always feel like when u see the battery % drop a few % in 10 minutes, make me feel like if i use non stop for 8 hours, might not be possible hahaha

Bro hows ur charging like ? wat % u charge and until ? Do u also force close apps ? Altho they say not needed at all it wont save any batt ?

Everyone say to replace the battery 2-3 or maybe 4 years once, never change the battery of my IP6 before though, is it really necessary for better performance once it degrades ?

I charge every night before I sleep, usually start charging at about 9.30pm to 100% before I sleep at around midnight or just before. I use one of those "auto disconnect" cable that automatically cuts off power from the adapter when the battery is fully charged. On the battery percentage level when I charge, it usually depends on how heavily I use the phone on the day, usually around 40% or so remaining. And yes, I do have this habit of force closing apps even though I know it doesn't help to save battery. I'm just a creature of habit biggrin.gif

Ohh i see, but actually why is there such thing as a 40-80% rule in the beginning ? Why not 20 , 30 etc ?

At night.. I also face battery usage of 10-20% drop. I’m guessing the notifications and etc.

What I do... set up automation in Shortcuts. Once DND kicks in, low power mode is turned on and vice versa once DND is off.

Powerful usage for Shortcuts.

Charging wise... will do it during the day. Avoid charging overnight. Having those auto disconnect cable helps compare leaving it to Apple auto disconnect. But why not avoid altogether?

Find it preserve battery better. I’m a heavy usage person so unless u hardly use the phone.. by 1-2 years battery degradation will happen.

If u drop 10-20% overnight when idle then i think mine is really really normal, coz i only drop 3-5% during idle overnight. So Im not really as bad.

As for charging, I always charge manually, from around 40-80%, so apple OBC or auto disconnect doesn't kick in for me. But i just wonder why is there such thing as 40-80, wat is the logic behind charging at 40%? I know charging till 80% is to avoid battery strain, but not sure about the former.

True. It depends on how many apps you got. What runs background and notifications you are getting.

40%? I saw some articles mention 60%. Could be wrong. The logic I understand, don’t drain the battery and therefore maintaining battery health.

Hmm but apple themselves said background running in the back isn't actually running, their ram is frozen, it's just there for u to access them easily when u need to, it doesn't eat up any battery tho.

Yeah I saw 40 60 75 too, but the most common is 40, because it's easier to charge on a real life day to day basis. I was thinking like maybe even 30 would be fine too, but no one mention that

Yes it doesn’t run. But notifications coming in, the background app refresh will kick in and I guess there’s where the battery usage is.

I did a test to disable notifications. So battery dropping 10% for me is normal in my use cases.

To me.. don’t worry too much. Enjoy using the phone.

yeah bro, my battery drain about 3-4% daily overnight, with notifications coming in even tho the background apps doesn't run, like u said. I'm just enjoying the phone to the best i can, battery drain is suppose to happen and it's normal hahaha
