I often daily unsmooth roads i aim to up alittle comfort (cuz folks bising abit ) with whatever closest to present tire setup.


After bit consideration, now my ONLY choices is between ( A) & (B )
My stock is 235/45 R17 ( 105.75)

(A ) 245/45 17 ( 110.25) 1.4% speedo (will this up comfort alittle cuz taller, at expense of FC right cuz wider ? )

(B ) 225/50 17 ( 112.50) 2.1% (my concern is , can new tire thinner than stock, is there such rule of thumb ? )


Anyone has experience this changes before can feedback abit because I never try other setup before

First of all, what is your rims width? Coz if smaller than 8jj then you can throw the 245 option out of the window, but if bigger than 8.5jj then can forget the 225 option.

If your rims is 8-8.5jj then between the 2 option the 225/50 is more comfortable given the same tire. Having said that though, if you use 225/50 tires with harder sidewall vs 245/45 with softer sidewall then the 245 might be more comfortable or about the same. 245/45 will look much nicer though cuz wider and not so ballooning.

Haha totally forgot rim width . 7.5jj....olin. so many technicalities n physics involved

If narrower than my stock 235 is safely acceptable then 225 50 it will be ....since 7.5jj cannot go 245 as well...

Ur BRZ use 235 40 18?

235 and 225 is almost same tread width so minimal difference. Some 225 which have wider/more square tread width can be as wide as a narrower 235.

I don't have a BRZ. Quazacolt has one.

Re003 235 45 17 (treadwear 200, trac A, 94W) to
Toyo 225 50 17 (treadwear 420, trac AA, 98W )

Car feels light overall (eager to launch forward than before ) ,
more cushion on uneven roads, and turning in is much lighter.

Bear in mind tyre shop usually give that feel good hovercraft feeling when you leave the shop, because the tyre is underinflated at 200kpa only.
You should recheck your tyre pressures for a fair comparison.

I got ask the tire technician to pump 240kpa (35psi) for me. I always like my air around 240

The improvement of comfort i believe due to newer tires (softer compound compare to 5yrs old hardened oredy) , origin of country made, and definitely the taller tire profile 50 is way better sitting

It's further improvement in comfort also because you moved from UHP Potenza with harder sidewall to more comfort oriented Toyo touring tires.

Isn't a rim size as small as TS' 7.5J within range for a 245/45 R17 tyre ?
I know TS has selected a 225/50 ......
just for clarification sake .

Yes 6UEST is right i noticed comfort improvement cuz UHP to Touring ...among few changing factors

Jus want to highlight that I believe this Toyo ''touring'' tire is abit (or overlapping) performance characteristic due to good traction...the plentiful of owners mileage is a further testament

Ideally, 235 for 8jj

You remember max width 235 7.5jj, 245 max on 8, 255 max 8.5jj, 265 max 9jj and drop -10 for the ideal width

Nope, minimal for 245 is 8jj. Minimal for 235 is 7.5jj.
