Intel to invest $7 billion in new plant in Malaysia, creating 9,000 jobs
Intel will invest more than $7 billion to build a new chip-packaging and testing factory in Malaysia, Chief Executive Pat Gelsinger said on Thursday, expanding production in the country following a global shortage of semiconductors.
The new advanced packaging facility in Malaysia is expected to begin production in 2024 and is expected to create over 4,000 Intel jobs and more than 5,000 construction jobs in the country.

The only reason why Kedah is enjoying all these investments is because of political influence which most of them holds top ministerial positions in the country. Also it is because of the spillover effect of Penang state which is closeby and its talent pool.

You don't see why Intel will ever invest is states such as Kelantan, Terengganu or even Negeri Sembilan.

It'll never happen or become a Silicon Valley like China's Shenzhen.

You know why?

Firstly Johor chinese very rare you hear them speak Cantonese dialect. That is one criteria out already which never will be able to become the next homerun Guangdong province.
Second, it does not have majority Chinese population such as Penang/Mainland. Another criteria not met.

Both criteria to become another Shenzhen is to have both majority Cantonese speaking Chinese population.

Johor is in fact a Malay majority state. The only few remaining Chinese dominated cities in Malaysia today is Penang, Ipoh, PJ and Kuching.

Not an overstatement but why do you think tech companies always choose Singapore and Penang and its closeby areas such as nearby Kulim/Prai/Bukit Mertajam as strategic investment areas?

They are all Chinese majority states which is a fact. Even Taiwan is considered a orphaned China province is in fact Chinese Taiwan.

It is undisputed that even the ang mohs know that this industry of silicon, IT and technology they can rely on Sinosphere for talent searching.
Is Johor a majority Chinese state like Penang?

In what way?

Shenzhen and HK are both dominated by same race of people, culture, religion and language.

Is Johor and Singapore similar? It's so different.
It is only true if HK was majority owned by Ang Mohs/Indians and Shenzhen is majority Chinese then you can say is comparable with Johor/Singapore. But it's entirely different.

Also Guangdong has another rich neighboring country which is among the richest in Asia per capita besides HK. It's Macao SAR.

Johor got 2nd neighboring country attached to it?

Both HK and Macao are SARs which the motherland has somewhat control over them over their economic roles unlike SG/Malaysia which are direct competitors.

It lacks the talents and the right R&R requirements.

So unlikely will be the next Shenzhen. icon_question.gif
