The development region encompasses an area of 4,749 km2 covering Johor Bahru District, Kulai District and part of Pontian District. 5 local government authorities have jurisdiction over the 5 council.

The population of Iskandar Malaysia is slightly over 2 million in 2020.

Iskandar Malaysia is formed by major cities such as

Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Permas Jaya
Medini,Pasir Gudang,
Masai, Senai, Kulai
,Skudai and Kempas.

also lies within the original Indonesia–Malaysia–Singapore growth triangle, along with Singapore and Riau, Indonesia.

Shenzhen is also part of China.

A new CBD in Gerbang Nusajaya

In April 2015, Nusajaya’s master developer UEM Sunrise Berhad further revealed its comprehensive development plans for Gerbang Nusajaya which will have its own CBD similar to Jurong Lake District.

, this second phase of Nusajaya’s development will be designed with catalytic industries similar to the various economic drivers in Nusajaya and Medini.

Both these areas are home to tourism, logistics, finance, information communication technology and creative industry establishments just to name a few.

In anticipation for the HSR terminus in Gerbang Nusajaya, a number of catalytic developments have been planned.

They include Nusajaya Tech Park, a 519-acre integrated eco-friendly tech park and FASTrack Iskandar which is a 300-acre ‘motorsports city’.

This is the closest hint we can get on the possibility of the Nusajaya HSR station being located here. With a gross development value of RM42 billion, property values for existing homes in Nusajaya and Medini will enjoy a boost from the economic spillover.

JB's Evolution: Unveiling the Potential to Become the Future Shenzhen.

This is significant because they have the same government.

However, Johor is inside Malaysia, and Singapore is a neighbor to Johor Bahru.

But Malaysia and Singapore are totally two different countries.

It's crucial to recognize that Malaysia and Singapore are separate and independent nations, each with its own unique political and administrative identity.

Medini,Iskandar Malaysia can be new economic zone?

2 different country.

With the backing of Singapore and Malaysia’s governments, Iskandar is anticipated to transform into a thriving production and technology hub just like what happened to China’s Shenzhen, Hong Kong’s neighbour, reported The Financial Times.

China dynamo Shenzhen's GDP swells 10,000-fold in 40 years
Special economic zone and tech hub on the front line of US-China confrontation

Shenzhen gdp

In 2019, the city's GDP was nearly 2.7 trillion yuan (about 396.9 billion U.S. dollars).

Shenzhen's import and export volume has surpassed 430 billion dollars, accounting for about 10 percent of the country's total foreign trade, compared to less than 20 million dollars four decades ago.

Former Prime Minister Najib Razak said Malaysia, particularly Iskandar Malaysia , can have a mutually beneficial relationship with Singapore, similar to

New Jersey’s close ties with Manhattan.

The US$100 billion (S$136 billion) Forest City, which comprises

apartment blocks, landed houses, office towers, hotels and shopping centres,

is meant to eventually have 700,000 residents.

Even with all the new CONDOMINIUM ,OFFICE towers, SHOPPING MALLS,

Forest City By Country Garden Pacificview,

PLENTY OF TERRACE HOUSE,BUNGALOW,

no huge MNCs especially financial and manufacturing or successful SME's has set up shop or rose out of JB.

Meanwhile, Shenzhen has been dubbed China's 'Silicon Valley', and Huawei began in Shenzhen.

Could you imagine a multi-billion dollar multinational technology company out of Johor?

Furthermore, Shenzhen hosts the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

In 2015, it is the 8th largest stock exchange in the world, and 4th largest in East Asia and Asia.

Shenzhen is a coastal city in the south of Guangdong Province.

It is only 41 kilometers from Hong Kong.

Benefiting from the superior location and China's reform and opening-up policy, Shenzhen has become a modern and international metropolis since 1978.

Of its residents, over 95% are Han Chinese, with the city's dramatic growth fueled almost entirely by internal migration.

Since the 1980s, Shenzhen has grown from a fishing town of 30,000 people into a 12,357,000 population world city

411 times increase!!!!

In 2016, Shenzhen’s contribution to China’s GDP was USD303 billion,
surpassed only by Shanghai and Beijing.

and a center for manufacturing, specializing in electronics and telecommunications.

At 2020,Shenzhen will mark 40 years since being designated as China's first Special Economic Zone.

s Shenzhen’s development
and the important role it plays in the global value
chain. Shenzhen’s rapid development since 1979
can be explained in 4 stages.

The first stage,
from 1978 to 1992, can be characterised by labourintensive development supported by openingup and institutional reforms.

In the last stage,
from 2013 to 2018, Shenzhen successfully reached
innovation-driven development and the highest
echelon of the global industrial value chain.

It also becomes the innovation hub as a new generation of start-ups emerging, which makes it the most competitive and innovative city in China.

The city also features contemporary buildings, such as the 600m-tall skyscraper

Ping An International Finance Centre, and a number of amusement parks.

The city hosts the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

Shenzhen is an international hub of research and innovation in China and ranks 32nd globally by scientific research outputs as tracked by the Nature Index.

Shenzhen ranks 9th in the 2019 Global Financial Centres Index, that's only 4 spots behind Singapore.

It has the third busiest container port in the world as well.

Look at Shenzhen.

A successful JB will be beneficial for both Singaporeans and Johorians, because it will be of equal footing and Singaporeans can benefit from the extra job opportunities and space,

just like with Hong Kongers in Shenzhen and vice-versa.

AT AUG 15, 2020, South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai announced that they decided to produce electric cars in Singapore.

It makes you wonder why they didn't choose JB instead despite the close proximity, cheaper costs and labor, etc. [/size]

The traffic at Woodlands and Tuas,
Johor and Singapore, both feel the fuss.
Travels and visits on the way,
Work and life in both lands stay.

Malaysians work hard every day,
Long lines stretching far away.
The causeway blocked without relief,
Cars flowing like a raging brief.

Weekends bring joy, travel’s delight,
The traffic clears, a peaceful sight.
Hope tomorrow brings no more strain,
Smooth travels between both custom remain.

Shanghai-based Greenland, the first state-backed developer to extend debt payments last year, has failed to make a payment for its 6.75 per cent June 2024 bond with an outstanding $432 million.

HSBC, the trustee for the bond, notified holders on July 14 of an event of default because the developer did not pay the 5 per cent amortization worth $22.5 million on the due date, and has not paid it since, according to a document sent to bondholders, viewed by Reuters.

**National Library Board(current)**
**Malaysia-Singapore Second Link** I
**Background**
**The Malaysia-Singapore Second Link is a 1.9 kilometre dual-three lane bridge that connects Tuas in northwest Singapore to Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah located in southwest Johor. Officially opened on 18 April 1998, it is the second bridge across the Straits of Johor that links Singapore and Malaysia, the first being the Woodlands Causeway.**
**Background**
**Before the opening of the Second Link, the Woodlands Causeway was the only crossing linking Singapore and Malaysia. Officially opened in June 1924, the Causeway became increasingly congested during the post-independence years due to growing cross-strait traffic. Although it was widened in 1976 from a four- to six-lane carriageway, commuters and motorists continued to face congestion, especially during peak hours. To address the problem, Singapore and Malaysia agreed in 1980 to consider a second crossing. However, it was not until 1994 that both sides signed the official agreement to build it. The delay was caused by many factors such as the deliberation over its location and the type of crossing. In the end, it was decided that the new crossing would be located at its present site. Further, it would take the form of a bridge rather than a causeway. This is to allow small watercraft to ply the western half of the Straits of Johor.**
**Second Link Agreement**
**The 1994 agreement to design, build and maintain the Second Link was signed on ********* 22 March 1994********** in Kuala Lumpur by Lim Hng Kiang (then Singapore’s Acting Minister for National Development), and Datuk Leo Moggie (then Malaysia’s Minister for Works). Under the terms of the agreement, each country was to undertake and finance its own portion of the bridge. This included hiring its own consultants to design its side of the bridge and contractors to carry out the construction work. *********As about 1.7 km of the proposed bridge would be in Malaysian waters, Malaysia would build the bulk of it.********** Singapore, on the other hand, would cover the remaining portion in its waters, which was about 170 m.**
**Design**
**The Second Link is a high-level box-girder bridge with a dual three-lane carriageway that can handle a daily capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles. Weighing nearly 23,000 tonnes, the span of the bridge is supported by 26 piers,************ 23 of which are in Malaysian waters. *******There are also three navigational channels beneath the bridge for boats to pass through, two of which are in Malaysian waters. The first Malaysian channel, 75 m wide and 25 m high, is for bigger vessels, while the second channel, 50 m wide and 9 m high, is for smaller ones. The last channel, 75 m wide and 12 m high, is in Singapore waters.**
**The Malaysian end of the crossing leads to the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex, which is the Malaysian immigration and quarantine centre. Thereafter, it connects to the North-South Highway and Johor Bahru via the ******** 35-kilometre Second Link Expressway. ********* On the Singapore side, the bridge is connected to Tuas Checkpoint and then the ********* Ayer Rajah Expressway.**
**Construction**
**Construction of the Malaysian side of the Second Link began in mid-1994 and was carried out in two phases. The first entailed the creation of two islands for the main piers of the bridge, while the second involved the construction of the main span. Malaysia’s Second Link project also included the construction of an immigration complex, and the development of an **********11,000-hectare township in Gelang Patah*********, and the building of the Second Link Expressway. As for the Singapore side, construction of the Second Link started with the ********reclamation of about 20 ha of land off Tuas. The reclaimed land would house Singapore’s end of the Second Link and Tuas Checkpoint.******* Designed by consultants from the Public Works Department, construction of the two-level road system immigration complex started around May 1995, when reclamation was near completion. While the complex was being built, Singapore also commenced work on its portion of the Second Link. To build the three piers to support the main bridge on the Singapore side, offshore piles encased in steel casings had to be built first to hold up the piers. Further, checks on the site for each pile had to be conducted to detect cavities that would otherwise compromise the foundation. These checks were done by boring into the seabed. ************It was estimated that about 80 concrete segments, 45,000 cu m of concrete and 8,550 tonnes of steel were used to build the Singapore segment of the bridge. In July 1997, the construction of Second Link reached a critical milestone when the last slab of concrete was placed to connect both sides of the bridge. To mark the occasion, a topping-out ceremony was held on 31 July 1997**********. It was officiated by Singapore’s Minister for National Development Lim Hng Kiang and Malaysia’s Minister for Works S. *******Sammy Vellu. Thereafter, works on the final phase of the bridge, which involved completing the immigration complexes and installing railings, street lighting, road dividers and signposts, continued until it was opened to traffic on 2 January 1998.**
**Cost**
**Singapore spent S$620 million on the Second Link project. The bulk of it, S$485 million, went into building the Tuas Checkpoint. The rest was spent on reclaiming the site for the checkpoint and constructing Singapore’s portion of the bridge, which cost S$84 million and S$51 million respectively. As for Malaysia, it spent some S$358 million on the project.********** More than half of it, about S$200 million, was spent on building the immigration complex, while the remaining was used for the construction of its portion of the bridge.**
**Opening**
**The Second Link was opened to traffic at 10 am on friday,2 January 1998. ******* Minutes after the barrier to the Tuas Checkpoint was removed, a queue comprising cars, motorcycles and heavy vehicles converged on the checkpoint causing a jam, which fizzled out about 1 hour later.******* On the Malaysian side, there were also congestions at different times of the day. The congestion on both sides was caused by curious motorists who wanted to experience driving across the new bridge, and heavy vehicles using the Second Link as an alternative to transport goods to Singapore. Following the January opening, a ceremony was held on Saturday, 18 April 1998 to mark the official opening of the bridge. ******** The event was attended by *****************Goh Chok Tong (then Prime Minister of Singapore) and Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad (then Prime Minister of Malaysia). ************************In their addresses, both leaders welcomed the completion of the bridge, and saw it as a symbol of cooperation and deep bilateral ties between Malaysia and Singapore.
