I saw job advertisers want someone with degree in any discipline, but preferably in Journalism, Media and Communications. And excellent English skill (both written and spoken) is a must.

What if I am interested in researching and writing, but without relevant degree/diploma, and without certified English assessment score?
(English is not my first language)

By becoming a content writer, do I need to cater for every topics? From financial, real estate, to tourism and medicines?

If you are currently a blogger or youtuber, is English your first language? Your advice is much appreciated.

Becoming a content writer requires you to have a knowledge of your subject; depending on the nature of the company that hires you.

Knowledge can be acquired through research and readings.

Having to know a lot of subjects can be an advantage; meaning you have exposure to many things, so you can get the ball rolling easily.

The problem lies when you don't know many things and you are just starting to know about a subject.

Is English the first language of anyone here in Malaysia? Definitely not.
It doesn't matter if English is your first, second, third language.
What really matters is if you're proficient at it or not.

Just my 2 cents opinion.

You can try communicating with the job advertiser whether it is ok for them if you learn as you go when you work with them. Getting hired and hiring are mutual agreements between the employer and employee. So if they are ok with you being underqualified and you are ok with them possibly paying you less because of that, then ok lo.

No you don't have to know all topics, especially if you are working as an in-house content writer. It takes time to be specialised in a niche, so it takes even more time when you want to venture into different topics, especially if you want to be good at what you write.

I believe that Mandarin and bahasa content writers are in demand too. So you don't have to focus on just English. Write in the language that you are comfortable with and sharpen your skills in other languages if you want.

Your past working experience can be turned into writing for a niche that you can specialize in. The degree requirements are just a formality. You still got to show them a portfolio with some solid writing samples.

Having knowledge in the topic/area is paramount in any blogs and social media channels you are going to handle. Having great English will be advantageous, however knowing how Malaysia and Malaysians are like, a lot of their language is very rojak. So....

Below is a content writer ad I just found by Googling, so the requirements you mentioned is highly dependent on the hiring company and their needs. You can be a writer for any language but more importantly focus on acquiring knowledge and be well-versed in topics you are keen on so you can express yourself well in writing.

First, ss very depending on the employers, example media company, they will require a good english. (else you know a lot of heroes will condemn/criticize them, imagine the star's newspaper has grammatically error.)
