Heard from a friend's friend who's working at SiS service centre..
He told me that once you flash the ROM, no more warranty, cos they will look at the bootloader...
and out of 10 units of phones sent for repair, 7 units is 838pro...
seems like the mainboard of the 838pro is problematic and without warranty, it will cost USD300+ to replace it...

so now I hope my set has no problems and if it does, i can flash to ori wm6 ROM then send for repairs...

btw, if i flash back to ori WM6 ROM, would the bootloader change as well?

small bugs encountered with .ryan. v3.57.2:
1. when turning it on from standby, the screen colour was inverted. All white become black and vice versa...
2. When playing games and a call comes in, the buttons are non-responsive for at least 5 seconds, kinda lagging.. and when the call ended and I go back into the game, it lags as though its 0.5 FPS

other than that, it never hanged my unit, only lagged...

seems like a trend to drop the 838pro into water (touchwood)

I'd advise you to really dry it up, keep it in a container with lots of silica gel, and when you're absolutely sure its dry, then send to service centre and hope they are unable to find out...

I wear Dockers Mobile pants..
so probability of it dropping out of my pocket is rather slim, unless the pocket is torn from the inside..

warranty wise, gonna be a big headache.
I'd definitely not get it, unless the price is below 1k and I've got some spare cash...

1.4k with 7-8 months SiS warranty would be good...

Dopod 838pro and HTC Tytn is the same lar..
just that at that time HTC has not acquired Dopod, so they each came out with their own name for the 838pro..

O2 Zinc has a faster processor of 520mhz compared to 838pro's 400mhz..
O2 Zinc uses a miniSD compared to 838pro using a microSD..
other than that, its almost similar...

the 3.5mm jack not really an issue...
just get a stereo Itech BT headset that supports A2DP and problem is solved...

838pro is a PDA phone ler..
so sound and base quality wise, you can't compare lar..
if you're using it for MP3, then you should go for SE Walkman phones..

Does your 838pro come with WM6 or WM5?
upgrade to Ryan's rom
but at your own discretion, cos it will void the warranty..

I upgraded it on the 2nd day i got my 838pro...
side effects? easier to use than ever.. and better looking than the original...
I suggest you read the official dopod 838pro v2 page 100 onwards to start picking up on the stuff you missed...

upgrading depends on you, but its not really a big issue,
just "upgrade" it using the original WM6 rom, and send back for warranty.
just have to becareful cos any mistake can "brick" your phone...

I notice my unit with .ryan. v3.57.2 starting to lag a little.
Graphics load sluggishly, scrolls slows down as well..
restarted but still the same.

any idea what's wrong?

As of now, Storage has 30.87MB free, Program has 24.67MB free..

838pro is a Windows Mobile based PDA Phone.
Smartphones usually use Symbian.

If its Symbian, the file extention is usually *.sis
unless its Java, then both can use...
what application you download?
from where?

your phone shows the red light cos its charging...
make sure you have installed ActiveSync 4.5
