He's got some basic platforming skills from mario odyssey, can just about handle left stick movement/right stick aim thanks to Roblox and I think I've managed to teach him the difference between left and right. I'm still doing most of the heavy lifting playing the father which for boss fights means not dying when he does so which restarts the boss fights.
