Hi, as per title, trying to fully max out the extra 2.5k tax relief for 2H 2020. Any recommendations on how to fit a modest build to play cyberpunk 2020?

I can move around that budget a bit, but mostly trying to keep it at that

Use that money to buy a PS5 to play it.

Too little to build a gaming PC that can play the game at high/ultra settings at 60fps.

You won't get anything good with that 2.5K
Double it. Then you'll get something decent

buy console bro.. RM2k and RM500 for the game

a decent processor & mobo will cost you RM2k+

Gfx card is another RM3k

you haven't add any case, ram, etc

even a starter decent gaming machine would cost RM5k

I know bro...it's all about reducing my chargeable income. Im thinking in terms of cost/benefit, with first option either spending more to get a tangible item and potentially getting some money back from LHDN

or

Not buying anything and throwing a few hundred for moodin gov for nothing again, which is what happened for me in YA 2019. Regretted not spending a bit more last year

PS5 cannot upgrade and many games more expensive than PC. Steam, Green Man Gaming, Epic Games Store, Origin anyone? So many discounts.

Only reason for me to buy PS5 is at least 5 exclusive games that I will play. At the moment....

Godfall - PC has it
Spiderman - not my type of game
CoD - PC has it
Cyberpunk 2077 - PC has it
AC Valhalla - PC has it

The main reason of getting a PS5 is if you don't already own a gaming rig.

For PC, you'll need like 3k for a 1080P (min) rig, along with maybe additional Rm5-700 for monitor and peripheral totaling up to 3.7k.
But it's more of a one off pain, after that you can leisurely hunt for discounted games in steam.

For console, it's around 2.3k for the new PS5? The initial purchase is cheap, but each game will cost you around Rm250 or so.
Consider the cost of buying 4-5 games on PS5 over the months and the cost easily catch up to a PC.
Not to mention the constant need for PSN if you play multiplayer.

Yeah, you can look for 2nd hand PS5 games in FB marketplace but it's still an effort.
Compared to just putting steam games on wishlist and got notified through email, steam discount is just easier and usually much cheaper as well.

So, buying a console is like paying installment with interest.

Nola. Some memang got real discount. U need to know the average price.

They dont mark up. They just revert back to RRP

For example i was looking arnd for monitor. LG27GL850

The rrp is 1899

Most online shops selling at 1699 without any sale or what not

LG official store is having this so called promo on 12.12 where they will sell it cheaper than 1899 but dont know the price. Thats why dont buy stuff from official store. Its always the most expensive.

So on 12.12, anything lower than 1699 is already a good price.

A few things to note:

1. It will be very unlikely to get a PS5 at MSRP anytime soon due to rampant scalping and shortages, so keep that in mind icon_idea.gif

2. CP2077 is designed with base consoles in mind (i.e. the base PS4/Xbox One), which is a 7 year old console with very slow hardware (the CPU inside the console is even slower than a 9 year old 2500K, mind you) icon_idea.gif
The GPU inside the base PS4/Xbox one is about the same as a HD7870 (which is not very fast by today's standards) icon_idea.gif

3. Even if you managed to get a PS4 copy and play them on a PS5, the visuals may not be much better than a PC (unless the game receives a next gen patch, which is several months after the release) icon_idea.gif

4. Of course, CDPR is not going to make a game that will only run on expensive high end machines, as they won't be able to recoup the cost of development easily, so they are targeting as much platforms as they can for the biggest install base icon_idea.gif

5. That being said, it might be better to wait a while until proper benchmarks, graphical analysis from Digital Foundry, and optimization guides to arrive, so that TS can ultimately make a decision whether he should go for a PC or console tongue.gif

The system requirements look awfully light, and let's just hope this is not another RDR2 (i.e. the recommended system requirements are quite light on paper, i.e. a GTX1060/RX480, but people ultimately found out even a RTX2080Ti still have troubles running the game) sweat.gif

Single channel memory sweat.gif

I'd probably will spend a bit more on 8GB x2, due to Comet Lake requires dual channel memory for best performance, and the performance hit is rather significant on single channel memory setup icon_idea.gif

If it was a Ryzen system, then maybe yes. But its an Intel system. Single channel is fine.

So in the end TS manage to build the PC or not?

Remember if you plurge a bit more than RM2.5K you might be able to get a rig that actually lasts you for 3~5 years instead of getting subpar specs and then having to upgrade again and again later, which might end up costing you more.

If a 10400F already loses quite a bit of performance by moving from 3200 to 2666, then it is hard to imagine what single channel performance will look like:

https://youtu.be/csFwlKgZCzM?t=371

Not to mention that the game might requires more RAM too icon_idea.gif

That being said, it might be better to look at independent benchmarks first before buying the game icon_idea.gif
